The Crack of a Grain of Rice
The Crack of a Grain of Rice Summary
Chapter 1 of The Crack of a Grain of Rice
After my son and wife left a grain of rice in their bowls for the 99th time, I slammed the table and yelled at my wife.
"Divorce immediately and the son will be yours."
My wife looked at me in disbelief.
"Are you crazy? You want to divorce me just for a piece of leftover rice?"
Mr. Reynolds and Mrs. Reynolds punched and kicked me, and even my parents pointed at me and scolded me.
My son even knelt at my feet and kowtowed.
"Dad, I was wrong. I don't have any more food left. Please, don't leave me and mom."
I sneered at my son.
He and his mother went to great lengths to treat me like that, and if I didn't leave right away, would I be waiting for them to kill me?
I overturned the food on the table with one hand.
"If I say I want a divorce, then I want a divorce, and no one can stop me."
Sophia Reynolds looked at me in surprise.
The son, who usually ate in silence, also looked flustered.
He didn't understand why I suddenly got angry.
"Dad, what's wrong with you?"
I looked at him unhappily.
"I'm divorcing your mother. Your mother leaves with nothing. If you follow her, I won't give you any child support."
My words made their faces turn pale instantly.
Sophia quickly reached out and grabbed me.
"Why? Why do you want a divorce?"
She didn't understand. She was just eating at home as usual, and I suddenly lost my temper and wanted to divorce her.
Not even children.
It is obvious that I value this son the most and I put him first in everything.
I shook off her grip on me.
"No need to say any more, take the documents and let's get a divorce right away."
As I said that, I took out the Divorce Papers I had prepared long ago and threw them in her face.
"Once you've signed, we'll go to the Civil Registry Office."
Daniel MillerDivorce Papers.
He questioned me angrily.
"Dad, why did you suddenly divorce Mom?"
"And what's written in this agreement is not fair at all."
fair?
I've done the best I can by not asking Sophia to pay me back for Bridal Dowry and the money I've spent over the years.
I reached out and slapped my son.
"What qualifications do you have to challenge me? Who do you think you are?"
My words made Sophia and Daniel's eyes widen.
They looked at me in disbelief, totally unable to believe that these words would come out of my mouth.
Sophia crawled to my feet and grabbed my trouser leg.
"Husband, what's wrong with you? What did I do wrong? Tell me and I can change it."
The way she begged humbly was as if she had committed a terrible mistake.
But I didn't even look at her, I just pointed at the bowl on the table.
Daniel reacted immediately.
"Dad, Mom and I forgot. It's our fault. Let's finish the food in our bowls right away."
He spoke so anxiously, but his hands did not move at all.
Sophia saw that my eyes were getting colder, so she spoke quickly.
"Alexander, it's just a meal, don't take it too seriously."
"Daniel and I can't eat it anymore, so just keep it."
I knew she was going to deal with me in this perfunctory way.
But now I am no longer the fool who could be dealt with by her.
"I said I want a divorce, are you deaf?"
When Sophia saw that I was determined to get a divorce, she stood up suddenly.
"I won't divorce you."
"Go out and ask around. Is there anyone in the world who wants a divorce just because his wife and child only have one grain of rice left in their bowl?"
She was blaming me in every way, saying that I had mental problems and would divorce over leftovers.
But I know very well.
The reason for our divorce is not what she said.
