Chapter 4

"Abigail, I just picked up a few more orders, so I'm a bit busy."

My hand gripped the hem of my pants tightly, and I was momentarily dazed.

I couldn't believe these words.

"Can I take you downstairs and help you call a cab?"

I had to register and get checked at the hospital, and my leg hadn't fully healed, but he didn't seem to worry about that.

I didn't know how the words came out of my throat; I could only say "okay."

After Owen put me in a cab, I couldn't hold back anymore. Pretending to look at my phone, tears welled up in my eyes.

I didn't dare make a sound, afraid the driver would notice.

I didn't know how long I sobbed before I asked the driver to turn and take me to my workplace.

I worked at a jewelry store during the day, earning a decent salary.

As soon as I walked in, I saw someone picking out a necklace at the counter.

From the side, I could tell it was Mia.

As soon as I walked in, Mia's gaze almost stuck to me, making me uncomfortable.

"I want her to help me."

Mia pointed at me, asking me to serve her. I wanted to refuse.

But someone pulled me over.

"I want to try on these earrings. Please help me put them on."

I looked at the earrings on the counter, still feeling resistant.

"Miss Baker, how about I help you instead?"

Eleanor suggested, knowing the commission on such high-end items was substantial.

"I want her. If she doesn't come over, you both can leave!"

Eleanor was panic-stricken, grabbing my arm with tears almost falling.

"Miss Baker is our boss's friend, Abigail. Please help me out!"

I had no choice but to step forward, my scalp tingling, and put on gloves.

"Sorry, Miss Baker, I will assist you."

Mia smiled and continued talking with her friend.

I approached her and aimed the earring post at her earlobe, ready to put it on.

Unexpectedly, she pushed me away.

"Have you been trained at all? It hurts so much! Do they let anyone work here now?"

My waist hit the edge of the counter, and with my leg still not fully healed, I lost my balance and fell to the ground.

Cold sweat broke out on my back. My calf hurt badly. I tried to prop myself up, but I had no strength at all.

Mia's friend slapped me, making my head spin.

Someone lifted my chin, and I looked dazedly at the person in front of me.

"So, this is the woman Owen chose? When did his taste get so bad?"

The woman's nails dug into my chin, causing sharp pain.

I pushed her away. Eleanor tried to help me up, but the manager stopped her.

"How dare you? Miss Baker is Mr. Scott's fiancée. If you offend her, how will you keep your job?"

Chapter 5

I thought, "Fiancée? Owen's fiancée is Mia, then what am I?"

"Actually, I'm curious too, how Owen found such a cheap substitute.

"By the way, you might not know this, but the Scott family is very wealthy. Even if his business failed, he wouldn't ask you for money."

Mia thought for a moment, then opened the transfer records.

"Can you see that? This is the money he transfers to me every month. And your money is right here!"

She pointed to the ring and bag she was wearing and sneered.

"But you do resemble mine a bit. No wonder Owen chose you!"

Mia then took the earring she had just removed and scratched it across my face.

"Tell me, if your face had a scar and didn't look like mine anymore, would Owen still want you?"

I felt Mia's hand press harder and harder. My face hurt so much, and it felt like she was about to pierce it.

"Mia, did you find anything you like? If so, buy it."

Owen entered and asked with concern, but when he saw blood running down my face, a flash of panic crossed his eyes.

He probably thought I had gone to the hospital for my checkup, so he felt comfortable coming to this store to meet Mia.

Chapter 6

When Mia saw Owen, she dropped the earring in her hand and leaned into his arms.

Mia's tears fell as she accused me of wrongdoing to Owen, who grew angrier with every word,

"Abigail, if you're so confused, go to the hospital and check. Working here only causes trouble for others."

He said with urgency and anger as if he couldn't wait for me to disappear from his sight.

I reached up to touch the scraped part of my cheek, but the pain on my face was nothing compared to the pain in my heart.

It took me a long time to slowly get up from the ground, and Owen seemed to notice the wound on my cheek.

He took out a handkerchief to wipe the blood from my face, but I slapped him across the face.

"Get out! All of you, get out!"

Other customers in the store pointed at us. Owen grabbed my hand, and Mia followed us.

Owen closed the door after we entered an empty room.

I looked at his face, with his gold-rimmed glasses and meticulously styled hair. He had even worn cologne to meet Mia.

I flung his hand off my arm.

"Owen, don't you have anything better to do?"

I stumbled backward, glaring at him.

"You chose me because I look like her, didn't you?

"If you like her so much, just stick to her and leave me alone!"

My eyes reddened with anger, and my stomach churned with pain.

"Abigail, I..."

He wanted to explain but didn't know where to start.

Because the truth was exactly that, any explanation would be redundant.

"Yesterday, I took her to the hotel to see you, did you know that?"

I pointed at Mia, and a flash of panic crossed Owen's eyes.

"Do you know how I felt when I saw you in a custom suit, holding and kissing her?"

Owen reached out to comfort me, but I pushed him away.

"At that moment, I even thought I could give you another chance!"

"Abigail..."

"Don't call me. You're filthy!"

I screamed, wanting to vent all my frustration.

"What are you pretending for? Didn't you go after Owen because he was rich and had a company?

"You're just an orphan with bad luck who wants to get ahead. Tell me, what do you want? I'll give it to you!"

I looked at Mia in a fury and slapped her across the face!

Owen pushed me away, and I fell against the corner of the wall, hitting the back of my head on the window ledge. My vision became even blurrier.

Mia came straight at me and grabbed my throat.

"You bitch, how dare you hit me!"

I couldn't breathe. Were they trying to kill me? Why could this pair of scumbags touch me like this?

They were the ones who deserved to die!
