Chapter 1

My fiancé was heavily in debt after his business venture failed.

To repay the debt, he and I took on multiple jobs.

Once, while I was doing a driving gig, I took a girl to a hotel for a hookup.

She called her boyfriend while in the car.

"Owen, I'm almost there. Remember to prepare that, and get me a set of clothes."

My heart ached; her boyfriend had the same name as my fiancé!

I thought I misheard until I saw that familiar face through the car window.

He was waving a brand new designer dress and a large pack of Durex at the girl.

Owen's business venture failed.

His company's cash flow broke, leaving him with a lot of debt.

To repay the debt, I sold my account and the gifts he had given me.

This barely managed to repay more than half of the debt.

But there was still over a million left.

So every day, besides his regular job, he took on private painting commissions after work.

And I started doing driving gigs.

Today, I got a driving gig.

The client asked me to come quickly and offered an extra three thousand as a fee.

I gobbled up the freshly bought donut and took a big gulp of the remaining half cup of milk.

"Didn't you say you didn't have a proper suit to wear? Today I earned three thousand, so I can buy you a suitable outfit!"

I joyfully shared this good news with Owen.

He needed to concentrate when painting, so his phone was usually set to 'Do Not Disturb' all day.

Not responding promptly was normal, but he always prepared meals for me before I got home.

He knew what I liked to eat and would occasionally surprise me with little treats.

Despite the debt, I always felt that as long as we worked together, we could overcome any difficulties.

I quickly got on the bike, my helmet pressing my hair into a layer of sweat, but I dared not slack off.

Riding to Lovelle Road, I saw the client's license plate number.

"Let's go."

I heard the client's voice, which sounded drunk.

I just grunted and immediately followed the route; driving such a luxury car, I had to be extra careful.

So, I drove very slowly.

The client's phone rang, breaking the quiet atmosphere in the car.

"Owen, don't worry, I'm almost there."

Hearing that name, I felt my blood freeze.

It couldn't be, I must have heard wrong.

"By the way, since you asked me to come to the hotel, make sure to prepare everything. I still need to shower later, and I don't want to get pregnant."

The car was eerily quiet, but I heard a voice on the client's phone that I knew all too well.

"Alright, I'll have someone get it ready."

My grip on the steering wheel tightened. A car suddenly appeared next to me, snapping me back to reality.

I couldn't be sure, maybe I had just heard wrong. After all, voices can sound similar.

With a nervous heart, I sped up the car.

Outside the five-star hotel, I put on my mask before getting out of the car, and the client transferred the three thousand to me.

She then turned and waved at a meticulously dressed man at the hotel entrance.

I looked closely and realized that the man in the distance was my fiancé, Owen Scott.

He was waving a designer dress at the client, dressed in a custom-made suit.

Even his shoes were custom-made and expensive.

The young girl ran into his arms, and he laughed joyfully, then took out the contraceptives from the bag and joked with her.

Owen embraced her, not caring about the onlookers, and kissed her passionately.

I didn't know how long I stood there, stunned, watching them walk into the hotel and get a room.

My heart felt like it had been crushed. Every step felt like my feet were filled with lead.

Chapter 2

When I got home and looked at the blank screen, my heart ached with countless stabs of pain.

His account was automatically logged in on the computer.

I saw that all the message records on his account were completely clean.

There wasn't even a single WhatsApp contact for a client asking for his paintings.

When Owen pushed the door open, I quickly shut down the computer.

The pain in my calf repeatedly attacked my nerves, making me break out in a cold sweat.

I forced myself to hop over to the sofa and sat down, looking up at the clock in the living room.

It was already one in the morning.

"Why are you still up?"

Owen's hair was a bit messy, and he was wearing a white T-shirt and light blue jeans, with cheap sneakers on his feet.

But he had something in his hand, a bag with a few cherries inside.

"What's wrong? Let me see your leg."

Owen carefully examined my calf and saw it was badly swollen and red.

He took some medicine and slowly massaged my leg.

As I got close to him, I noticed a strand of brown hair on him, the same color as that woman's hair from earlier today.

He must have thought I was too stupid, so he didn't care about me at all and didn't even bother to hide it.

I felt a wave of disgust in my heart.

After I dropped off that woman at the hotel, I planned to take another order.

The other order was nearby, and I quickly found the client's car.

But as soon as I arrived, the client canceled the order, and I was kicked from behind and fell to the ground.

When I saw who it was, I felt another hard stomp on my calf.

I screamed in pain, but no one around helped me.

Later, I realized that all the people around were classmates of Samuel, Owen's brother.

And Samuel stood in front of them, allowing them to bully me.

"Samuel, isn't this your sister-in-law? Aren't you afraid your brother will be mad at you for this?"

Samuel laughed wildly, looking at me with disdain.

"How could my brother be mad at me because of her? He's afraid this woman will bring her poverty into my family!"

"You're right, your brother is the future heir of your family, and his wife must be a good match."

"Yeah, and Mia is back. My brother and Mia have been childhood sweethearts."

The pain in my leg persisted as Samuel and his classmates left.

When I climbed up from the ground, my leg was too injured to ride a bike.

But the summer rain started pouring suddenly, without warning.

I intended to call a cab home, but I found my phone was broken and couldn't call a cab.

The rain was pouring down, and no one was around. Only a 24-hour convenience store was still open.

When I walked into the store in my soaking wet clothes, I was afraid of dirtying the floor.

"Ah, it hurts so much..."

I couldn't help but cry out from the pain in my leg.

I looked up at Owen and saw him staring at my calf with a pained expression.

So, did Owen know that Samuel came today or not?

Chapter 3

My heart was filled with bitterness. Owen felt the teardrops on his hand and looked up at me.

"Does it hurt too much? Bear with it, it will get better soon."

He said it softly, trying to comfort me, but my tears fell.

"Why are you crying so much? Does it hurt too badly? Should we go to the hospital?"

His panic was real, so he could like me and another person at the same time?

"It's nothing," I said, wiping my tears away. He placed my leg on the sofa and went to the kitchen to wash the cherries.

"Don't you like cherries? The fruit store had a sale today."

I watched him place the washed cherries in front of me. "Try them, see how they taste."

I looked at the man in front of me, still feeling a bit of doubt in my heart.

I was desperate to know what he was really thinking.

"Owen, have you taken many orders these days?"

Owen looked up and met my eyes, reaching out to tousle my hair.

"You thought I didn't have any work today and were worried about me, right?"

I nodded. If he could be honest, maybe I could give him another chance.

He smiled and opened his e-wallet, showing me about two thousand dollars of earnings.

"I just finished a painting today, and this is the income."

A pang of pain hit my heart as I stared at him, wanting to see through the man I had loved for so many years.

The next morning, I slowly came out of the house.

I saw breakfast on the table outside, which Owen had bought.

"Eat something first, then go to work."

I nodded and sat down to eat breakfast.

As I pushed the door open to leave, I glanced into his room. He wasn't painting.

He was on his phone, replying to messages.

"Owen, I still don't feel well. Can you come with me to the hospital?"

I closed the door and walked over to him as I spoke.

He seemed startled and dropped his phone.

The drawing software on his computer was blank.

I glanced at the text on his phone screen. He had arranged to meet Mia today.

Owen quickly picked up his phone, looking at me with a hint of resentment in his eyes.

My mind was buzzing in confusion. He had never looked at me like that before.

So, Samuel was right. Owen's true love was Mia.
