Chapter 1 of Rebirth of the Super Heroic Luck Child

The day my sister-in-law found out the baby had XYY syndrome, I was reborn.

In my previous life, when Lilly got pregnant, her doctor discovered the baby had XYY syndrome. The doctor recommended terminating the pregnancy, but Lilly refused. She caused a huge scene at the hospital, insisting the doctor was a fraud. She believed Mr. Pearson, the spiritual guide she had consulted during her pregnancy, who claimed she was carrying a once-in-a-lifetime, gifted child destined for greatness.

I stepped in, argued with everyone, and finally convinced Lilly to follow the doctor's advice and terminate the pregnancy.

Less than a year later, she gave birth to a healthy boy, Cody, but she never stopped telling him about the child she lost. She kept saying that the first baby would have brought great fortune to the family, and because I hadn't let her keep him, she held a grudge against me. After failing his SATs, Cody, filled with hatred, came to my house. He doused me in sulfuric acid and stabbed me eight times, his face twisted with anger.

After I died, my husband, Tate, quickly forgave Cody, signed a pardon, and lied in court, claiming Cody had a mental illness. With the insurance money, he married his high school sweetheart.

But now, I've come back. Reborn on the day Lilly learned her baby had XYY syndrome. As I sat at the dining table, everything seemed eerily familiar. Tate gently patted my shoulder and frowned. "Abby, Lilly says her baby has XYY syndrome, and the doctor suggested terminating the pregnancy. What do you think?"

Suddenly, all eyes were on me. I looked around at the scene that mirrored my past life and realized—I had been given another chance.

I smiled softly. "Tate, if Lilly says Mr. Pearson told her this baby is destined for greatness, maybe it's worth keeping the child. Who knows, perhaps the XYY syndrome will be overshadowed by his 'gifted' nature."

Tate frowned again. "But I've read online that—"

Before he could finish, Lilly's husband cut him off. "Come on, Tate. The internet is full of fear-mongering. If Abby, with all her knowledge, thinks it's fine, then we've decided to keep the baby."

Lilly gently stroked her belly and nodded. "Exactly, Tate. The doctors just want more money with all these extra tests. I don't believe a word they say. Mr. Pearson said this child is special. You and Abby should see him too, maybe get some advice on when you can expect to have a 'gifted' child like mine."

Then, she threw me a smug smile. "Abby, I know big cities are all about marrying late and having kids even later, but you and my brother didn't get married that young, so you better hurry if you want a baby with this kind of luck."

I kept a straight face and replied evenly, "Of course. You should take good care of this baby—your family's future luck depends on him."

Neither Lilly nor her husband picked up on the sarcasm in my voice. They took it as a compliment and left our house with armfuls of fruit and vitamins I had bought, not even bothering to say goodbye, treating the place like their own.

Once they left, Tate came over to me. "Abby, I still think Lilly should terminate the pregnancy. I mean, the XYY gene is pretty serious. Can't you talk to her again?"

I thought bitterly about how, in my last life, Tate had felt the same way. He didn't want the child, but he didn't want to be the bad guy either, so he pushed me to do it. He hadn't even cared when I died, and now, in this life, he wanted to use me again. Dream on.

I smiled at him. "Tate, don't worry so much. Maybe Lilly will raise this XYY kid to be something great. After all, he's supposed to be special, right? You can relax."

Tate still seemed uneasy but didn't press the issue. He just mentioned he had some work to do for his classes tomorrow and retreated to his studies to prepare.

I went back to the bedroom, my mind turning over the events of my past life. Since they had blamed me for losing the "gifted child before, this time, I would let them raise their so-called golden child and see how that turned out.

Nine months passed in a flash. Lilly's baby, Rex, was born perfectly healthy despite the XYY syndrome.

While still in her postpartum recovery, Lilly flooded her social media with pictures of Rex, proudly captioning: "Extra chromosome? What a joke. My baby is so cute and blessed with luck. Thank goodness I didn't listen to the doctor; otherwise, how would I have this perfect child?"

Some well-meaning moms in her circle saw the post and privately messaged her, gently warning, "You really shouldn't take the XYY syndrome lightly. It can lead to serious behavioral issues. Make sure you get him checked early, and consider psychological counseling."

Lilly didn't take it well. She went off on the poor woman, calling her jealous of Rex's "destiny" and accusing her of wishing ill on her child. She told the mom to mind her own business, claiming that she just couldn't stand how amazing Rex was because she couldn't have a child as perfect as hers. The mom, shocked at Lilly's outrageous response, blocked her right away. She also shared Lilly's rant with their group and with the leaders of other mom groups.

Before long, Lilly was blacklisted from every online mom group out there. She couldn't get into a single one. But she didn't care—she was convinced they were all just jealous of her. Since she wouldn't listen to anyone, not even doctors, she completely missed the signs that something was off with Rex.

It wasn't until Rex was two or three months old that Lilly started to realize something wasn't right. Rex was always agitated, constantly crying and screaming. He fought back when she tried to change his diaper or feed him, and he even bit her a few times. Still weak from recovery, she felt like she was falling apart. She needed help and asked her husband to step in.

But Lilly's husband, after helping with the baby for just two days, threw in the towel. "I'm not cut out for this," he said. "A man doesn't do women's work," and that was the last of his involvement. He started finding excuses to leave the house all the time, leaving Lilly to handle Rex by herself day and night, with barely a moment to rest.

Exhausted and desperate, she finally turned to Tate and me for help. The first two times she came over, I politely refused. "The baby is still so young. It's best for him to stay with his mom," I had said. But Lilly wasn't taking no for an answer. One day, she showed up at our house with Rex, and when Tate opened the door, she marched in like she owned the place, plopping herself down on our couch and refusing to move.

"Abby," she said, her tone full of entitlement. "You and my brother have been married for years, and you still haven't given him a kid. Now I'm asking you to help with your nephew for a few days, and you have the nerve to say no? Tate might be too soft on you, but I'm not. You're going to help with this baby whether you like it or not. And if you don't, I'll make sure my brother divorces you. You've been married into our family for this long without even giving us a son, and now you don't want to lift a finger. Life doesn't work like that!"

Tate, instead of standing up for me, chimed in, "Abby, come on, just help her out for a little while. It'll be good practice for when we have kids. That way, you won't feel so overwhelmed when the time comes."

I almost laughed out loud. Did they think I was that easy to push around? But I knew it wasn't time to confront them just yet.

So, I shot a glance at Lilly, gave her a soft smile, and said, "I could help out with Rex, sure, but didn't Mr. Pearson say Rex was born with some sort of special destiny? I'd hate to take that good fortune away from your family and have it rub off on me instead."

Lilly hesitated, clearly weighing my words.

I pressed on. "Lilly, the baby is still young. The more time he spends with someone, the more attached he'll become. Don't you want to keep that good luck close to you? Mr. Pearson said his destiny was one of a kind, after all."

She fell silent for a moment, then gritted her teeth and said, "Fine. He's my son, and I'd rather not take any chances with someone else messing up his future." She shot me a look and added, "I know exactly what you're up to. My son's good fortune will only bless my family, not you. Don't even think about riding on our coattails!"

And with that, she grabbed Rex and stormed out.
