Chapter 7

A month passed quickly. Valery had taken everything from the house. She took away all the bags and jewelry I bought for her and even took the hairdryer. If it weren't for the other appliances being purchased before marriage, she would probably have called a moving company to take them away.

Most of these things were sold at a discounted price by Jarrett, and the money was taken by Jarrett. But Valery was happy to accept it.

Just after finishing all the procedures and getting divorced from the Family Court, I walked to the parking lot and saw Valery appear in front of my car, holding hands with a man intimately. The man glanced at me, smiled, and handed me a cigarette, saying, "Hello, do you want a cigarette? I am Valery's current boyfriend. I heard that you are dying soon. That's great. Thank you for leaving Valery to me."

I thought self-mockingly that it was fortunate that I had lied out of goodwill, otherwise, not only would I have spent money on Valery's medical treatment, but I would also have been cheated on.

Valery glanced at me and said, "You look good. I was worried that you would die so soon. It's a pity that you are stingy and don't give me a chance to inherit your estate."

Seeing me staring at the man and ignoring her, Valery smiled and said, "I have known him for a long time. He is much better than you in many aspects. Jarrett has also tested him. He is an extraordinary man. After learning a lesson from you, I will take him for a medical examination before marriage."

The man patted his chest and said, "Valery, I am strong. Didn't you know it last night? Can a sick person have the strength that I have?"

Valery got shy and patted the man's chest. Seeing that I didn't react, Valery smiled mockingly and was about to speak when the phone rang. She immediately answered, "I got it. I'm busy now. I'll transfer it to you later."

It seemed that it was a call from Jarrett. I just transferred 40 thousand dollars to Valery, and Jarrett couldn't wait to get it.

I looked at the divorce certificate in my hand and thought that I didn't need to be angry with Valery since she was dying. Whether she loved me or not in the past two years, I was very happy during that time.

So I finally told her the truth. "I advise you not to transfer the money to Jarrett. Keep it for yourself. Trust me, you need it."

Valery seemed to be annoyed and transferred the money to Jarrett in front of me. "Why are you so nosy? This is called kinship. He's my family. What's mine belongs to my younger brother, and he will give me everything he has. Don't act like you know everything and command me."

I was too tired to argue with her, so I just said, "Remember to go for a physical examination. There will be a surprise for you." After these words, I got in the car.

Valery knocked on the hood of my car and muttered, "What the hell are you talking about? Don't curse me! I don't need your interference in my affairs. I will be healthy and live a long life.

"You short-lived man!"

I ignored her, honked the horn, and left.

When I drove out of the parking lot, I could still see Valery waving her hand angrily and giving me the middle finger.

The following days were very comfortable for me. I realized that being alone seemed to be more free than being with someone else.

Two months later, Valery appeared at my door, all wet.

I took a look at her. Valery looked tired and thin, completely different from the arrogant one I saw in the court parking lot last time. Her eyes were swollen badly. It seemed like she had been crying for a long time. When she saw me open the door, she immediately grabbed my hand. "Honey, please save me. I... I have cancer. It's already in the middle stage. Now only you can help me."
