Chapter 1
After learning that my wife had cancer, I was afraid that she would collapse, which would affect her treatment.
Therefore, I lied to her and said that I had cancer myself, and proposed to sell the house for treatment.
Hearing this, my wife slammed the knife and fork on the table and asked for a divorce.
She even brought her relatives to our house to demand justice, saying that I wanted to drag her down.
I questioned her in tears, but she looked at me with disgust and smiled.
She said, "Haven't you heard the saying that in times of trouble, each one looks out for himself?"
I was trembling with anger and agreed to the divorce.
Then she planned to buy a house and a car for her younger brother with the money.
I tried to persuade her not to do it, but she said I had no idea about family.
I just let her go. After all, it was her choice.
Then I just wished that your useless brother could do everything for your treatment.

During dinner, Valery Wright was focused on the TV and didn't notice my heavy heart. I cleared my throat and said, "Our medical examination results are out. Everything is normal for you. I... I have cancer."
Valery glanced at me anxiously and asked, "What? Is it serious? Will it be fatal?"
I nodded but soon shook my head. "The doctor said there is an advanced treatment with a high cure rate and good post-treatment effects. It generally does not affect the body and lifespan. Don't worry."
Valery seemed relieved and touched her chest. Perhaps thinking of the advanced treatment, she asked with some concern, "How is it treated and how much does it cost approximately?"
I sighed, "It's quite expensive. I plan to sell the house. If the money is not enough, I will take out a loan. After I am cured, I will find a way to get the house back."
I thought the next scene would be Valery hugging me and crying, encouraging me to fight the disease. But she put down her fork and her face darkened. "Sell the house? Where will I stay? Sleep on the streets? Aren't you being a bit selfish?"
I was stunned.
I paused not only because of her words, but also because the person with cancer was not me, but Valery.
Valery always considered her younger brother in every aspect and had an unstable mental state. If I told her that she had cancer, she would have an emotional breakdown and may even give up treatment because she wouldn't want to spend money.
After much thought, I decided to take action first and explain later.
I planned to tell her that I had cancer myself first. After I sold the house and got enough money, I would tell her the truth to spare her from inner torment.
But I didn't expect her to say that.
I was a little upset, but still thought that maybe she didn't react because it happened suddenly. Then I gritted my teeth and continued, "But if I don't receive treatment, I will die. Besides, this house was bought by me before our marriage. Don't I have the right to sell the house to treat the illness?"
Chapter 2
Valery's face turned dark and she sneered, "It's true that it's your house, but I also live here! You can't just think about saving your own life and not care about me, can you?
"You just said that the treatment costs are high. If you sell the house, doesn't it mean that you have to take out a loan later? We are a couple, and your loan is equivalent to my joint debt. When your cancer is cured, I not only have to take care of you but also earn money to buy a house and repay the loan. Have you considered all these?"
As Valery spoke, tears started to flow down her face. We had been married for more than two years and had always been sweet. When I saw her cry, my anger disappeared.
I thought maybe she just encountered a major change and was shocked, so she didn't know how to react.
I handed Valery a tissue awkwardly and explained the seriousness of the situation again, "Honey, the cure rate for this cancer is very high, and it won't affect my work in the future. Trust me, I will definitely work hard to get the house back. Besides, don't you want me to live happily with you for the rest of your life?
"We have been married for more than two years and have been so happy. Don't you want me to cure my illness?"
Valery pushed my hand away and said, 'What's the use of living happily with me? Misfortune befalls a poor couple. I just want to live a simple life with a house and a car. Am I wrong?
"Besides, if you love me, you should give up treatment instead of dragging me down, leaving me all your money and property to make me happy. Have you forgotten your wedding vows to make me happy for the rest of my life?"
I finally understood that Valery didn't even care about my life or death. I sneered, "What if I have to sell the house and take out a loan?"
Valery replied without hesitation, "Then let's get a divorce. You give me some money and I'll leave."
Chapter 3
Noticing I kept silent, Valery thought that I was unwilling to get a divorce and just wanted to drag her down. She added, "Don't expect me to give you any money. Let me tell you, I don't have a penny."
I pause for a moment and can't help but ask, "How could it be? What about your salary?"
Valery acts as if she had expected it. "So you're really after my money. To be honest, I helped my younger brother pay off his mortgage with all my savings."
Feeling that what she said was not harsh enough, Valery was afraid that I wouldn't agree to a divorce. She added, "Let me tell you. I never liked you. The only reason I married you was because of your parents. Your parents died long before, and I don't need to take care of them. I was so glad that they died long before and left you with a house, a car, and many savings.
"If it weren't for the fact that there weren't outstanding men around me at that time, do you think I would have chosen you? I'm just glad that we don't have children, otherwise, I would be dragged down by you."
I thought Valery and I fell in love naturally, and she had always been soft and lovely in front of me. It was the first time I had seen this side of her, and I was so shocked that I was so speechless.
She knew that the death of my parents was a lifelong pain for me, but she actually said that she was glad about my parents' death. If it weren't for her physical condition and my great strength, I wouldn't let her go.
I had nowhere to vent my anger, so I slammed the table heavily. The glass panel on the table shattered and my hand was injured and bleeding. Only then did Valery become a little scared and hugged herself, saying, "I'm telling you, don't touch me. If you dare do anything, my brother will kill you."
Valery wanted to say something else, but seeing my unpleasant expression and my tightly clenched fist, she was afraid that I would hurt her. Finally, she picked up her bag and phone and left the house.
