Chapter 6

I stifled a laugh as I walked out the door.

Walking along the mountain path, I could no longer hold back and burst into laughter.

Just three more days, and this mountain would be leveled to the ground.

They were right; there were plenty of fruits here. I picked a few fresh peaches—deliciously sweet.

After eating my fill, I lingered by the mountainside for a long time, noticing several large rocks that had already started to crack.

Perfect. I smiled with satisfaction.

After eating my fill, I returned home empty-handed.

They all stared intently at my empty hands. I spread them open—nothing.

Nina was about to hit me.

"You useless wretch! Can't even find a few fruits? Normally, this mountain is full of fruit trees."

Suppressing my laughter, I explained.

"Isn't it because of the heavy rain? Everything got washed away; there really wasn't a single fruit."

While they were feeling disappointed, suddenly, someone outside called out.

My heart skipped a beat—oh no, the rescue team had arrived.

Sure enough, I saw a few people in yellow uniforms standing outside the door asking.

"How many people are in the house? Would you like to come with us by boat now?"

The moment Thomas heard they could leave, he nodded eagerly.

"Yes, yes, we'll go with you right away."

No! We couldn't leave! If they left, they would survive!

I remembered what Nina said in my last life and quickly repeated it to stop Thomas.

"Think carefully. If you go with them, you'll either stay in a tent, cramped together in a damp little tent."

"Or stay in a hotel, and you know how much hotels cost these days—thousands per night. You're better off staying here with me. It's comfortable, and there's enough food. Anyway, this rain will stop in two or three days."

"Then, you can buy whatever you want to eat."

Chapter 7

When they heard that hotels cost thousands per night, they immediately pulled back, and no one mentioned leaving again.

Nina poked Thomas on the forehead.

"Is your brain full of crap? We've got such a nice place to stay, and all you think about is going out and spending money."

"It'd be best to kick that woman out; then the house would be completely ours, and we wouldn't need to rebuild."

Just like the story of the farmer and the snake.

But I wasn't angry at all. Since I couldn't take the house with me, I might as well give it to them.

Let it be their tomb.

There were only a few hours left until the landslide.

I moved all the food I had hidden before to another place. I must ensure that after they were buried, I have enough supplies to last me a few days.

I found a raincoat and boots, packed a few of my best clothes, and secretly gathered all the gold and bankbooks, hiding them outside.

Apart from this empty shell of a house, I took everything valuable that I could.

Whatever I couldn't take, I left as their grave goods.

With everything prepared, I sat on the sofa, doing nothing.

Nina, her stomach growling, ordered me to cook.

But I looked at her with difficulty.

"There are too many people, and we've run out of rice."

When she heard there was no food left, she immediately lost it.

Together with Thomas, they pushed me out of the door.

"Hurry up and borrow some rice from the neighbors, or go to the mountains to find some wild vegetables to eat. Whatever you do, don't let us go hungry, or we'll kill you."

Half resisting, half complying, they pushed me out of my own home.

Standing not far away, I looked up at the hill behind the house.

With an excited heart, I silently counted the time.

3, 2, 1!
