Chapter 4
“It was Garry and Jarvis who thought they didn't deserve treatment and stopped the operation midway, causing their wounds to worsen and they lost their lives.
“What would it be like for your father to be lying in the emergency room, conscious of his own death?
“This is all because you two daughters sent your father to hell with your own hands!”
My face turned paler as she spoke. While my best friend completely broke down.
With bloodshot eyes, she threw herself on Quinn and slapped her like crazy as she yelled, “Quinn, you are not a human!”
Quinn did not resist and cried inconsolably, making everyone stunned.
Jarvis was the first to react and kicked my best friend away, while Garry held Quinn in his arms and coaxed her lovingly.
Jarvis wiped away the tears from Quinn's face with heartache.
Looking at the bright red slap mark on her face, Jarvis's face was filled with rage.
He turned around and grabbed my best friend's hair, forcing her to look up at him with a grim look on his face.
“I've been too nice to you and that's why you've become more and more demanding, huh?”
Jarvis slapped my best friend on the face hard.
"This slap is to remind you that kindness is the foundation of being human. No one will ever truly like someone with a heart full of malice.
“This slap is to teach you that as a woman, trying to destroy another woman’s innocence is not just cruel, it’s vile and disgraceful.
“And this final slap is for your arrogance, your self-righteousness and the countless times you’ve schemed and framed Quinn. May you never forget it.”
My best friend’s face quickly became red and swollen and it was a horrible sight.
Jarvis still did not stop what he was doing.
I wanted to step forward to protect my best friend, but Garry grabbed me and I could not break free.
The sound of slapping continued in the room, like a hammer, hitting my heart hard and making me tremble all over.
A full hundred slaps landed on my best friend’s face.
Blood oozed from the corner of my best friend's mouth and she bumped into the suitcase and fainted completely.
The marriage certificate that was placed in the suitcase was knocked out.
Only then did Quinn slowly speak, “Jarvis, stop fighting. I don't mean to escalate your conflict.
“After all, they are the fiancées chosen by Mrs. Huerta for you. With this status, they can do whatever they want to me without fear.
“Instead of letting them hate me, I'd better talk it out today so that they won't bother me again next time.”
Hearing this, Garry's face turned completely gloomy and he said coldly, “Quinn, if they had listened to what I said, they wouldn't have targeted you again and again.
“She is so arrogant because of her status as my fiancée. If that's the case, I will make sure she never gets promoted.”
After saying that, Garry found the marriage certificate from my suitcase. In front of me, he burned the marriage certificate between him and me.
He pinched my chin, his eyes cold as frost as he stated, "From now on, you are only worthy of being a canary kept by others, do you understand?"
The ashes of the marriage certificate floated into my eyes and the last trace of love disappeared.
It just so happened that without this marriage certificate, we were both free.
Jarvis followed suit, burning his and my best friend's marriage certificate.
I numbly helped my best friend who was gradually waking up, with an indifferent expression as we asked, “Now, can we go?”
Garry's eyes darkened and he asked more questions, “Where do you think you are going?”
Jarvis, however, drove the person away with an impatient look on his face as he said, “Uncle, let them go. They will come back on their own anyway.”
Chapter 5
Their contemptuous gazes pierced me like needles, yet my heart was numb, like a pool of stagnant water, still and heavy.
Silently, I cursed them all, ‘I won’t come back. Never!’
Staggering away with my best friend by my side, I passed Quinn and whispered, my voice cold as ice, “Do you really think that without us, you can marry into the Huerta Family?
“You’ll be nothing more than a shadow, hidden, forgotten, never acknowledged.”
Quinn's face was suddenly filled with anger.
I left Huerta’s house with my best friend and went to the clinic to get our wounds treated.
Even when she learned that Jarvis had burned the marriage certificate, my best friend's face remained indifferent.
No one expected that our wedding would turn into our father's funeral.
My best friend and I both lost our mothers when we were children and our fathers were our only relatives.
So that time, we just want our only relative to return home as soon as possible.
I carried my father's ashes all the way back to the village to prepare for his funeral.
Even though we were far away from the Huerta Family, news about Garry and Jarvis still reached my ears and my best friend.
At the auction, Garry and Jarvis vied with each other to buy the jewelry that Quinn liked.
On the Internet, someone broke the news that Garry, Jarvis and Quinn were living together.
Paparazzi captured photos of Quinn kissing Garry and Jarvis intimately.
But after seeing all this, I remained calm and focused on preparing for my father's funeral.
Unexpectedly, Garry and Jarvis came to see me and my best friend on the day our father's ashes were buried.
Garry and Jarvis came with great momentum.
Garry pointed it out directly and said, “Come back with me. I want you to clarify for me in front of my mother that I will not marry Quinn. I treat Quinn well only because I owe her.”
I gave him an indifferent look.
Mrs. Huerta did not like Quinn.
Back then, Garry and Jarvis became enemies in order to compete for Quinn.
It was Mrs. Huerta who took action and sent Quinn abroad, severing the entanglement between the three.
At that time, since things had gotten out of hand, Garry and Jarvis were afraid that the past would happen again, so they thought of me and my best friend, asking us to be their shield to protect Quinn.
I used to like Garry and was willing to suffer grievances for him.
But that time, since I had let it go, I just felt that my former self was extremely ridiculous.
I did not even want to look at him and told him to get lost coldly.
Instead, my best friend stepped forward with blazing eyes and snapped, “Isn’t everything on the internet true? If you’re so innocent, why don’t you dare go explain it to Mrs. Huerta herself?”
“Besides, we have nothing to do with any of you. What now? You’re all supposed to be high and mighty, presidents of companies, used to being worshipped. and yet here you are, shamelessly trying to cling to us? Pathetic.”
Jarvis’s face darkened with irritation as he snapped, “If Grandma trusted us more than the two of you, do you really think we’d lower ourselves to come here?
“Come back with us, do this properly and maybe we’ll let you move back in.”
Jarvis's righteous tone seemed like he was giving us a gift.
They did not know yet that Mrs. Huerta had already investigated them thoroughly.
Seeing that I remained indifferent, Garry's face darkened and he scolded me, “Maribel, when will you stop making trouble?
“I promise you that we can have a new wedding. Didn't your father say that according to the customs of your hometown, the wedding should also be held here, in the countryside?
“So, okay, I agree. If you really want it, we can do it now. But after the wedding, you must come back to the Huerta Family with me.”
When I heard him mention my parents, my blood boiled.
I stopped what I was doing, turned around and yelled at Garry.
“What qualifications do you have to mention my father? I have said it many times. My father is dead.
“It was Quinn who killed him. It was also you two who killed him. You are all murderers!”
Garry frowned irritably and asked, “What on earth are you talking about? Do you know that you are cursing your father to death?”
Jarvis curled his lips and said with disdain, “It is a sin for your parents to have a daughter like you who curses them to death!”
I did not want to get involved with them anymore, so I raised the shovel in my hand and yelled at them.
“Get out! Today is my father's funeral. Don't disturb my father's peace here.”
Garry's patience had completely vanished. He looked at the cemetery in front of him and questioned me coldly, “You don't even want to have a wedding just to attend a crappy funeral?”
As soon as he finished speaking, he snatched the shovel from my hand and dug into my father's grave.
Jarvis followed suit and snatched the shovel from my best friend's hand to dig the grave.
My eyes were bloodshot and I rushed over with my best friend to stop them, but we were stopped by the bodyguards they brought with them.
The grave that my best friend and I dug for our father was dug up by two people, revealing a white porcelain jar containing my father's ashes.
Garry and Jarvis sneered and smashed the urns to pieces in front of us, then the black ash on the ground was blown away by the wind.
My best friend could not bear the stimulation and fainted in my arms.
Garry walked up to me and sneered condescendingly, “Be smart and come back with me now, don't force me to prepare a grave for your living father!”
At this time, the village chief and the police ran over there to ask, “Who are you? Why are you digging up Maribel's father's grave? Don’t you know that you are breaking the law now?”
