Chapter 1
My best friend and I married into wealthy families on the same day.
I married Garry Huerta, the younger uncle of the Huerta Family and she married Jarvis Huerta, the nephew of Garry.
On the wedding day, my father and my best friend's father came to the wedding, but were beaten by bodyguards.
My best friend and I cried, begging Garry and Jarvis to stop it.
Garry held his first love in his arms and glared at me as he barked, “Maribel, can you be more sensible? These two old perverts sexually harassed Quinn, they deserve to be beaten to death.”
I tried my best to explain that my father and my best friend's father were not like that. There must be a misunderstanding between them.
He sneered, “That's enough. In order to go against Quinn, you even made up a lie that they are your parents. I am so disappointed in you!”
In desperation, I knelt in front of Quinn Fritz and kowtowed to apologize.
My best friend wanted to rush over to protect her father, but was held tightly by Jarvis.
Jarvis slapped her in the face and cursed, “It's all your fault that you insisted on having the wedding. That's why Quinn got wronged. This is all your fault. Go and apologize to Quinn.”
After the beating, my best friend and I immediately sent our father to the hospital, but it was too late.
A wedding destroyed my family and my best friend’s. We regret it and decided to not want to marry them.
But after we left, they caught up with us.
——
The lights in the emergency room went out and the bodies of my father and my best friend's father were pushed out.
The moment the doctor shook his head at us, my best friend and I collapsed to the ground and cried our heads off.
Several medical staff hurried past us.
“Have you heard? Mr. Garry and Mr. Jarvis of the Huerta Family offered 10 million to hire the best psychologist in the hospital to treat their first love's psychological trauma.
“It is said that the first love was harassed by two old men at the wedding.”
When I heard these words, I was stunned. My nails dug into my palms without me noticing and blood dripped down.
Quinn was the unattainable first love of both Garry and Jarvis. A woman they cherished but could never truly have.
Yet, she was also the very person responsible for the deaths of my father and my best friend’s father.
At the wedding, Quinn's loud cry for help attracted everyone's attention.
As I rushed over, I saw Quinn being cornered by my father and my best friend's father.
Her eyes were blurred with tears, the collar of her skirt had fallen to her shoulders and the hem of her skirt was lifted up a little bit and she was struggling to break free from the arms of my father and my best friend's father.
Everyone gasped, while Garry and Jarvis were furious.
Without giving my father and my best friend's father any explanation, he ordered his bodyguards to beat them up.
My best friend and I knelt at Garry and Jarvis's feet to beg them, telling them that the person being beaten was my and my best friend's father and asked them to stop.
Quinn said while crying, “I have already given Garry and Jarvis to you, why are you still unwilling to let me go and spend money to hire two old men to sexually harass me?
“They even took indecent photos of me and you actually lied, saying that they were your fathers, just to protect them and get those photos back? Was ruining my reputation the price you were willing to pay?”
Hearing this, Garry and Jarvis were certain that my best friend and I were lying and forced me and my best friend to watch our father being beaten to death.
When they were sent to the hospital, it was already too late.
A wedding turned into my father and my best friend's father's funeral.
My mobile phone suddenly rang.
I received the video of the wedding and the photo shoot that I took by chance.
In the video, Quinn deliberately ruffled her clothes and threw herself into the arms of my father and my best friend's father, holding them tightly with both hands.
Then, there was the scene where she shouted for help.
Chapter 2
My eyes suddenly turned red.
Looking up, I saw Quinn not far away being surrounded by Garry and Jarvis, who treated him like a treasure.
In an instant, blood rushed to my head.
I rushed over, almost spitting fire from my eyes as I barked, “Quinn, you are lying. You are directing and acting all this yourself!”
Garry stopped me, a hint of impatience in his eyes as he asked in a cold tone, “Maribel, when will you stop making trouble?
“If you hadn't asked people to bully Quinn, today's wedding wouldn't have been cancelled. You have brought this upon yourselves.”
Seeing the disappointment and anger mixed in Garry's eyes, my heart suddenly ached and tears flowed down.
I took out my phone to play the video and defended myself.
“Garry, I have never done such a thing, can you believe me?” Quinn's eyes were red and she sobbed softly as she explained, “Maribel, you even forged a video to frame me."
Seeing Quinn's aggrieved look, Garry and Jarvis both felt distressed.
Garry snatched my phone and smashed it, then slapped me in the face and said with a disgusted tone, “Maribel, you are the most vicious woman I have ever seen in this world. I despise you.”
I looked at Garry in disbelief and my blood froze.
My best friend threw herself on her father's body and cried loudly as she explained, “Did you know that our father died? It was Quinn who killed him. Why don't you believe it?”
Jarvis was annoyed by my best friend's crying, so he stepped forward and kicked over the bed where the body was placed, saying sarcastically, “They acted so well that I almost thought they were your fathers.
“Don't play dead. Tell me, how much money did these two women give you to harass Quinn? and now you are playing this trick with them!”
Seeing no one responding, Jarvis's eyes flashed with ruthlessness and he kicked my father and my best friend's father's body again and again.
“No!”
My eyes were bloodshot and I rushed forward to protect my father's body.
Jarvis kicked me on the back with such force that I almost vomited blood.
Garry's brows suddenly frowned.
Quinn spoke first, “Garry, Jarvis, please don't be angry with Maribel and her. After all, I am an outsider and it's okay to suffer some grievances. I believe that they will not do this again next time.”
Jarvis's eyes were filled with anger as he sneered, “Will they dare to do it again?”
Garry's face also darkened and a storm was about to come as he responded to Quinn’s act, “Quinn, you are not an outsider.
“Don't worry, after you finish your treatment, I will definitely give you an explanation for what happened today.”
When I met Garry's sinister eyes, I shuddered.
I bit my lips tightly until the taste of rust spread in my mouth and then I regained a bit of sanity.
I said in a trembling voice, “I won't marry.”
My best friend also looked at Jarvis with extreme disappointment as she said, “I won't get married either.”
Upon hearing this, Garry and Jarvis's eyes changed.
Then, it was replaced by indifference, as if it was certain that we would be the ones looking back in tears.
Garry said calmly, “Whatever.”
Jarvis sneered, “I'm not the one asking for marriage.”
After saying that, the two of them passed by us, protecting Quinn.
My best friend's tears started falling again at that moment.
I wiped the tears from her face with heartache.
My best friend and I were both girls from ordinary families.
Chapter 3
Meanwhile, the Huerta Family was beyond our reach.
Until we accidentally saved Mrs. Huerta's life.
Mrs. Huerta was Garry's mother and Jarvis's grandmother.
It was her who facilitated the marriage between me and my best friend to Garry and Jarvis.
I could feel that Garry liked me a little bit.
But this love was nothing compared to his first love Quinn when she returned from abroad.
In fact, this love even caused my only relative to lose his life.
In the face of the Huerta Family's power, we could not even seek justice for our loved ones.
I hugged my best friend and said, “Let's go, as far away from them as possible.”
We sent our parents' bodies to the funeral home for cremation.
After getting the ashes, we went back to the Huerta Family's old house to meet Mrs. Huerta.
Seeing my best friend and I standing in front of her holding our relatives' ashes, Mrs. Huerta choked up and could not utter a word to plead for us.
She grabbed my hand and my best friend's hand and said something bitterly after a long while, “I am sorry. The Huerta Family is willing to compensate you.”
I smiled bitterly and said, “Mrs. Huerta, no need to do that. We just don’t want to continue this marriage.”
Mrs. Huerta had a complicated look in her eyes and finally returned the marriage certificate my best friend and I had without her agreement.
The Huerta Family was a traditional large family and a marriage certificate should be approved by the head family. If not, then our marriage was not official enough.
I still remembered that Garry and Jarvis expressed their sincerity in marrying me and my best friend.
They wrote a marriage certificate with their own blood, implying that they would be loyal to us forever.
They were sincere to us then. But that sincerity came and disappeared quickly, like an illusory phenomenon.
My best friend and I curled our lips in a wry smile.
That time, without this marriage certificate, Garry and Jarvis were free.
After doing all this, my best friend and I changed out of our wedding dresses.
When we were packing our luggage to leave, Garry and Jarvis came back, bringing back Quinn with him.
Garry's eyes fell on the suitcase at my feet and his face darkened as he asked, “Where do you want to escape to? I haven't settled the score with you for hiring someone to bully Quinn!”
I ignored her and walked out holding my best friend's hand.
I knew they would not believe us no matter what we said, so I just want to escape from this suffocating place with my best friend.
As we walked to the door, Quinn's aggrieved voice came over, “Garry, Jarvis, if Maribel and her don't want to apologize, then no problem, don't force them. I don't want you to quarrel with Maribel and her friend because of me again.”
After saying this, Jarvis slammed the door in front of my best friend and I then locked it.
My heart suddenly tightened.
Garry looked at me with a gloomy gaze and a cold chill broke out in his eyes as he ordered, “You two, kneel down and apologize to Quinn!”
The violent tone was like a knife, cutting a big hole in my heart and it hurt so much that I could not breathe.
Jarvis was too lazy to even speak. He kicked my best friend on the leg and forced her to kneel in front of Quinn.
Before I could react, Garry grabbed my hair tightly.
The pain from my scalp tearing almost made me unable to open my eyes and by the time I caught my breath, I knelt before the culprit who killed my father.
Quinn leaned close to my and my best friend's ears and every word he said was heart-wrenching, “Do you know your father was killed by your own hands, right?”
My best friend and I suddenly widened our eyes.
Quinn curled the corners of her mouth and spoke in a light tone, “Your father was not only beaten to death.”
