Chapter 2
I slept until noon.
My phone kept vibrating and it annoyed me.
The person who made the call seemed very persistent and wouldn't stop.
I grabbed it irritably and it was Samantha.
I was too tired last night and forgot to block her number.
I might explain it to her now.
"Anson, it's raining outside."
She had already gotten used to me picking her up and dropping her off. Even in bad weathers, as long as she made a phone call, I was more punctual than an Uber.
But today I didn't feel like going out.
"Hmm, so what?"
"So you should pick me up!"
She was angry and anxious, and she raised her voice.
Before, when she got angry, I would immediately apologize and coax her.
But now...
"Why should I come to pick you up? Where was the man yesterday? Let him send you home. I want to sleep. Don't bother me if there's nothing important!"
She chuckled, probably thinking that I was just jealous.
"Anson, I got drunk yesterday and didn't know anything. Don't mind it.
"As long as you come to pick me up now, I can still give you a chance to accompany me, otherwise..."
Before she finished speaking, I hung up the phone.
I rubbed my ears. I had beard these words for ten years, and I was tired.
Samantha kept sending me voice messages and video calls, which were annoying.
After blocking and deleting all her contact information, finally I could have peace.
I buried my face in the pillow and fell asleep again.
Chapter 3
In the dream, I went back to the past.
At that time, I was fat, and I didn't talk a lot.
I was the type of person who was easily looked down upon.
They randomly threw garbage at me, and tore my notebook to pieces.
The lunch I brought would be poured out, and I was beaten up often.
One day, I was dragged by my hair to the mountain behind the school, and happened to encounter Samantha who was hiding there smoking.
She threw away the cigarette end and rushed over to drive away the bad students who were bullying me.
She was so cool that she has completely captivated me.
But I forgot that girls who hid and smoked were not good girls.
So, she taught me a lesson in ten years.
Since that day, I had been pursuing her like a fool.
I didn't eat breakfast every day to save money to buy her snacks.
Although those snacks end up in the trash, I was still happy to do it.
She got annoyed with me and asked me to meet her in the back mountain.
With a cigarette in her mouth, she looked at me sideways.
"Anson, do you like me?"
I lowered my head and shyly nodded.
She sneered, holding a cigarette butt in her hand.
"Come here and be my ashtray, and I'll let you kiss me."
Excitedly, my face turned red, and I reached out without hesitation.
The skin on my palm was burned black by the cigarette butt, making a sizzling sound.
But I was not afraid, and with anticipation, I leaned in with my mouth.
Unexpectedly, I received a solid slap.
"Anson, look at yourself. You look like a fat pig! If I let you kiss me, I'll have to wash my face off!"
Laughter erupted around me.
People started coming out from everywhere. Some of them were holding camcorders.
Mocking voices echoed from all directions.
"Anson, you're just a loser, do you even deserve to like Samantha?"
"How ridiculous!"
I blushed and wished I could be invisible.
I stood there in a daze until everyone had left.
I had already decided to give up.
But when I walked back to school, I saw Samantha squatting under a tree, waiting for me.
"Anson, I'm sorry. I just wanted to play a joke on you. I didn't expect them to go so far!
"Are you really angry? It's okay. You are brave. I don't mind if you pursue me!"
I willingly forgive her because of the guilt on her face.
For ten years, she has always followed the principle of "carrot after stick", keeping me firmly in her grasp.
Looking back on the absurdity of all these years, I really wanted to slap myself.
Damn it!
Chapter 4
It was already night time when I opened my eyes again.
My only buddy from high school, Matt, called me to remind me of tonight's class reunion.
I leaned against the head of the bed, feeling tired.
"I don't want to go. I'm too tired."
Matt exclaimed.
"That's not possible! Today is a specially arranged gathering for you!"
Matt deliberately organized this class reunion, planning to let me confess my feelings to Samantha when the atmosphere was at its peak.
I sighed and got up to change clothes.
Let's put an end to my ten years of foolishness tonight.
The gathering was held at the most upscale restaurant in the city.
Of course, it was on me.
The cost of 88.8 thousand dollars made my heart ache.
Thanks to my donkey brain.
When I stepped in the room, most of my classmates had already arrived.
Samantha was also there. She had delicate makeup and was wearing a tight dress, showcasing her graceful figure.
She was sitting on the sofa with the former straight A student, Harry Kallis.
She leaned against Harry with shyness.
When Harry saw me enter, he smirked and casually put his arm around Samantha's shoulder.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the most promising person in our class has arrived.
"Anson, I really didn't expect it. You made a name for yourself by relying on your family's demolition and relocation business!"
The humiliation in his words was very obvious.
After all, my grades were only enough to barely get me into an ordinary university, while Harry, on the other hand, was able to pass the entrance exam and get admitted to the most prestigious university.
Unfortunately, after graduation, he couldn't make a big career. I heard that recently he bought a second-hand old BMW just to show off.
Now I understood that he felt mentally unbalanced, and I could accept a few jealousy from him.
I didn't respond and calmly sat down.
Harry felt a bit embarrassed. He tightened his grip on Samantha's hand.
"Anson, I heard that you have been pursuing Samantha for ten years and still haven't won her over. Do you believe that I will get her tonight?"
I looked up at him with a smile.
"Sure. Just take her. If you don't have money, let me know, and I'll get you the top suite!"
With these words, there was laughter all around.
Harry stood still and didn't react for a moment.
However, Samantha couldn't sit still. She angrily stood up and threw a cup of hot coffee at me.
I slightly leaned to the side and avoided it.
Without a drop of the hot coffee spilled, it all landed on Ruby who was standing behind me and about to hand me her business card.
What was more, she was wearing high-end designer clothes, and her bag was worth over 200 thousand dollars.
I looked at her, feeling a bit sorry.
Sure enough, Ruby shouted angrily and grabbed Samantha by the hair, slapping her twice.
"Samantha, my suit is worth at least a million dollars. If you don't compensate me today, don't even think about leaving!"
