Chapter 3
"Percy, get the hell out!" Kara shouted at me.
She had already made up her mind. When I eventually crawled back and begged her to marry me, she would humiliate me twice as hard to pay me back for how I treated Oscar today.
Early the next morning, the Jennings sisters heard that I was holding the banquet again that night.
This time, the event was even fancier than the day before, and the hall was packed with people.
By the time the sisters walked in, most of the guests had already arrived.
They didn't even glance in my direction and headed straight up to the stage.
Guinevere smirked and hooked her arm around Kara's. "Look at all the rich guys here today. Instead of marrying Percy, why not choose someone from this whole group?"
"Percy is manipulative and heartless. I think you're better off staying single!" Naomi agreed.
As soon as Naomi spoke, Pamela Jennings nodded hard. "Kara, they're right. I can't stand Percy's fake behavior either. It makes my skin crawl."
Kara lifted her chin with pride. "Yeah, I don't wanna marry someone like him anyway."
"I think you've made the right choice. People who don't respect others don't deserve to even live!"
Sharon Jennings shot me a look and raised her voice even more. "None of us Jennings sisters want to marry that guy!"
Guests nearby heard their bold remarks and looked at me with pity.
If I had heard this in my past life, I would've exploded with anger and rushed over to confront them.
Even though Kara was the one I liked most among the sisters, I had treated all of them well.
Yet here they were, trying to humiliate me in front of a full room today.
Now, I just gave them a cold stare and went back to chatting with my business partners.
All of this chaos would end today.
Once every guest had arrived, my grandmother entered the banquet hall with the butler, Chad supporting her.
Instantly, the entire hall fell silent.
My grandmother smiled as she stepped onto the staircase and looked across the crowd.
"Today is a wonderful day. The Spencers have something important to announce."
She paused. "My grandson, Percy, is 23, and it's time for him to start a family. After he gets married, I will personally hand the family heirloom to my granddaughter-in-law."
The Spencers had been powerful for generations, and word had it that the heirloom was a priceless diamond worth a fortune.
Hearing this, the crowd burst into excited whispers, eager to see the legendary treasure.
My grandmother continued, "Now, Percy will announce who his bride will be."
Kara stood on stage while watching me proudly, her eyes filled with contempt.
She figured I would still kneel and propose to her today, even though I had said I was going to marry Michelle yesterday.
She decided to pull some kind of stunt to put me in my place when I got down on my knee.
Right then, a wave of gasps swept through the hall as people turned toward the entrance.
Michelle had arrived.
She wore a red evening gown and a soft, calm smile as she walked into the hall with effortless grace.
Michelle's figure was delicate, her skin pale and smooth, like an angel who didn't quite belong in this world.
While everyone stared at her in awe, I snapped back to attention, smiled gently, and announced with a loud voice, "Everyone, my bride will be Michelle Cooper, the CEO of Cooper Corporations!"
