Chapter 2
Death felt … weird. I felt as if I was falling through a never-ending darkness. The pain from my injuries was still there, but it wasn’t as sharp anymore. Everything around me faded, making me wonder if this was it. Was death always painful like this?
However, something inside me didn’t give up. There was a small spark inside me. Even more shocking, I could hear a whisper in my chest that told me to keep fighting. Was it Sophia?
When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to find out that it wasn’t endless darkness.
I was floating above a scene that crushed my heart.
There was Oliver, my husband, the Alpha, laughing and celebrating with his mistress on Meredith’s luxurious mansion. Meredith, the woman he chose over me, stood beside him, her hand resting on her belly. So, she really was pregnant.
“Congratulations, Meredith!” Oliver said as he hugged her with joy.
Meredith smirked proudly.
“Yes, Alpha. I’m happy too.”
But then she put on a sad face as she asked, “But what about our child? Will our baby be a bastard?”
“Don’t worry,” Oliver said, his voice cold.
The Alpha continued, “I’ll get the Moon Priestess to sever my mating bond with that bitch. You’ll be my Luna, so our child won’t be a bastard.”
My heart shattered again. Someone who was supposed to be my husband was celebrating the child that might be mine, living a life that could be ours. Yet, they took that away from me.
But as I watched, something else caught my eye. The Beta, Edward, stood in the shadows. He was watching them with such a cold, calculating gaze that I had never seen from the usually kind Beta. It was as if he was planning something terrible.
‘What was Edward up to?’ I asked myself.
Chapter 3
From the limbo, I could see the castle that had once been my home. It felt surreal to watch it so clearly while being so detached from it. My heart hurt to see my husband, Alpha Oliver, and his mistress, Meredith, walking together into the castle.
Fury spread throughout my whole body as I kept watching them.
‘How could he show his mistress off like that as if he had won some prize?’ I asked myself.
The thought of them together made me feel sick. I could only watch, trapped between life and death, as my frustration grew with every step they took. Every memory I had came back rushing inside my head.
I remembered how I first met Oliver. My father, Alpha Jeremy Pritchett of the Golden Claw Pack, had saved Oliver’s parents, Alpha George and Luna Lilianne Tilbury, during a rogue attack when they visited our pack. To thank us, they arranged for me to marry Oliver.
At first, it felt like a dream. There was a time when Oliver and I loved each other deeply and shared many dreams for the future. But then Meredith came along.
That woman used to be a lady-in-waiting to Luna Lilianne, but she wanted more.
Meredith wanted to be a Luna because she kept being pushed by her greedy family. When Meredith found out I was engaged to Oliver, she grew envious and resentful. Still, the woman eventually became his mistress, doing everything she could to ruin our relationship.
From my current place, I could see how Meredith had twisted everything. She had turned Oliver against me with lies and deceit. She spread rumors that I wasn’t chaste, I was evil, and so many more. All of those rumors were to make herself look better and secure her position.
Meanwhile, the pack members gathered in the grand hall looked at Oliver and Meredith with clear disapproval. I saw them closing their eyes and whispering to each other. Their whispers reached me even from my spectral state.
A maid whispered, “Can you believe the Alpha is showing off his mistress like this?”
“This woman caused our Luna’s death,” a gardener said in anger.
Despite their visible disapproval, the pack remained silent. They had to live under Oliver’s rule, no matter how openly disrespectful he was to me. After all, they still wished to keep their heads above their shoulders.
On the other hand, the mistress seemed to enjoy the attention even if it was a negative one like the people at the castle had for her.
In fact, she smiled proudly as if telling them that it was that easy for her to replace me as Luna. It seemed to me that she took pleasure in the discomfort she caused like the whispers and the sideways glances from the others.
Meanwhile, Oliver sensed that the people at the castle clearly disagreed. It made his mood worse, but he tried to control it because his mistress was by his side. Nevertheless, I could still sense his impatience and desperation to distance himself from me. It was as if he wanted to erase me from both his life and his memory.
As the Alpha stormed through the hallways, he immediately shouted at the people. He asked about my whereabouts. To his shock, he was then met with grim news.
Sir Aaron Cunningham, the leader of the pack doctors, stepped forward. His expression looked stern yet solemn as he walked to my husband. The former then bowed before the latter with respect.
“Alpha,” Aaron respectfully called my husband even though I noticed that he was gritting his teeth as if he was holding back his anger.
The pack doctor then continued, “I’m afraid I have some tragic news. Unfortunately, Luna Charlotte-”
“Cut the crap! I don’t want to hear that woman’s name!” the Alpha cut the leader of the pack doctor.
The force of his rage was almost overwhelming even from where I hovered.
Oliver then grabbed Aaron by the collar as he said, “My Meredith is now pregnant with my child. You’d better take care of her from now on. I don’t care if Charlotte is dead or not!”
Aaron struggled to free himself from Oliver’s grip, but the doctor was able to let himself go. Although the doctor’s face was calm, his eyes showed a barely concealed fury to his Alpha.
“I’m going to sever my mating bond with her, so that I can marry my Meredith,” he loudly announced to everyone.
“So, where is my wife?” he asked everyone loudly, but nobody would answer.
That enraged the Alpha even more when nobody answered. On the other hand, Meredith looked satisfied when she saw everyone’s response. In fact, she smirked, which showed her true nature.
Seeing her face enraged me, but I knew that I couldn’t do anything.
“Alpha, please don’t worry. It must be one of her tricks. You know her very well about your wife, don’t you?” she said to Alpha who quickly calmed the man down.
Her cruel words were like a knife that twisted my heart. But before I could fully grasp the depth of her cruelty, my attention was quickly diverted by the Beta. While his face showed frustration, he made a slight smile as if he was satisfied.
Again, I thought to myself, ‘Why was Edward smiling? What was he planning?’
Edward’s smile grew, but he quickly hid it behind his usual stoic expression. It seemed that he found something satisfying in the chaos unfolding around him. I watched as he moved to the side while his gaze locked on Oliver with hidden meaning.
What happened before me felt like a puzzle piece falling into place, but I couldn’t see the whole picture. Edward’s behavior was intriguing and unsettling in my eyes. It made me more determined to see what would happen even though this whole scene made me uncomfortable.
Chapter 4
From this place, I kept witnessing what happened to the world I had left behind. Even if my heart no longer beat like in the past, it still ached with every scene I watched. After all, I could see clearly that both Oliver and Meredith were planning their wedding happily.
The preparations were excessive and sickening, which made me want to scream even though I was powerless to act. It was infuriating to see them so happy. Their joy was a stark contrast to the grief and anger that consumed me.
But then my attention was diverted by something else. On the other side of the castle, the elders were gathering to discuss about Oliver’s actions. Their faces showed concern and frustration as they tried to reason with Oliver. Yet, their attempts seemed futile against his stubborn denial.
One of the elders, Elder Albert, exclaimed in anger, “Alpha, this is madness!”
The old man continued to talk in anger, “How can you think of getting married when you’ve bonded with your Luna?”
Immediately, Oliver was infuriated.
“Shut up! Meredith is pregnant with my child. I don’t want to hear any of this. I’ll sever my mating bond with that bitch Charlotte by the Moon Priestess’ permission and ask her to marry Meredith with me,” he insisted with a tone of coldness and dismissiveness.
“You should’ve known that this is just another of her tricks where she would use you guys. She was always manipulative. This is no different to those old schemes of that bitch did,” the Alpha continued.
Beside him, Meredith slightly grinned. Surely, she felt like a victor. But the Moon Goddess promised me that the people who hurt me would pay the price, so I could only just wait for her words to come true as I kept watching the scene before me.
“It’s just one of Charlotte’s schemes,” she said sweetly.
After that, the mistress kept talking, “You know how she could be. This is her way of trying to ruin our happiness.”
Her words were like daggers that kept stabbing my heart without stopping. Oliver’s refusal to accept the truth of my death combined with Meredith’s manipulation really hurt me. I couldn’t help but let out tears because of how easy my life was taken. It was so unfair!
‘I really hoped that they’d be miserable sooner,’ I thought to myself.
The pack members around them were visibly enraged, their frustration boiling over as Oliver’s delusions continued to push them to the edge.
“This is madness,” another elder, Elder Alphonse, said as he shook his head.
The old man then said, “We cannot stand by while you, our Alpha, disregards our Luna for a whore! This is a disgrace an insult to our traditions.”
Despite the elders who voiced their protests, Oliver remained unmoved. The Alpha was like a man possessed as he refused to believe my death. It seemed that he had made up his mind.
As the tension in the room reached its peak, Beta Edward stepped forward. Unlike the tension around him, the Beta was calm and collected as if he tried to calm the pack down.
“Enough,” he said, his voice cutting through the uproar.
‘I wondered what he would say,’ I told myself.
To my shock, the man then continued, “Let the Alpha do as he wishes.”
Immediately, the pack members fell silent. All of them looked at the Beta as if he went insane. Or it might be the case.
“How can you support this madness?” Elder Alphonse asked in a demanding tone.
Elder Albert also protested as he said sternly, “You know that this is very wrong, Beta!”
Yet, Edward’s gaze was steady as he looked at the questioning pack elders.
“It is not our place to interfere in the Alpha’s decisions,” the Beta calmly stated.
He continued, “If Alpha Oliver wishes to proceed with this wedding, then so be it. We have other matters to attend to.”
The elders reluctantly left the castle as soon as they heard Edward’s words. As for me, I was also feeling uncomfortable hearing his response. That wasn’t like the Beta I knew who would fight for me.
‘Or maybe I didn’t really know Edward,’ I thought to myself sadly.
Still, I couldn’t help but wonder what he was truly up to. Why would the Beta, who had seemed so displeased with Oliver’s behavior, suddenly choose to back him? What was his intention?
‘What are you planning, Edward?’ I asked myself as I kept looking at Edward who looked very nonchalant amidst all of this madness.
Thus, the wedding preparations still continued amidst the mourning of my death tht my husband even had no idea of. Although I was angry, I knew that I couldn’t do anything. After all, I was no longer part of the living world.
I could only watch as Oliver and Meredith were celebrating their shamelessness. They blatantly ignored the people at the castle who looked at them disapprovingly. Frankly, it was just upsetting to see their happiness while I died in misery. But I knew it wasn’t something I could interfere.
As the wedding day drew closer, I knew I was on the brink of something important. Oliver’s delusions and Meredith’s scheming were just part of a larger story, one that was far from over. My spirit burned with a need for justice, and I was determined to see it through, no matter what it took.
For now, I could only watch and wait to see how everything would be unfolded. I really hoped that the truth would come to light. Then, I would see with my own eyes that Oliver’s lies would be ruined because of the justice.
‘I hope they’ll suffer soon,’ I told myself as I watched them with hatred.
