Chapter 1
When I, Charlotte Pritchett, was finally succumbing to my severe injuries after the rogues kidnapped me, my husband, Alpha Oliver Tilbury, was celebrating the pregnancy of his mistress, Meredith Smith whom he saved from the rogues instead of me.
I contacted him through the mind-link and asked for help, but all I got was his angry words, “It must be one of your tricks! It’ll be better if you die! That way, I can freely marry my Meredith!”
At the end of his words, he decisively cut off our telepathy.
I left with pain and sadness.
Later, Oliver came begging me to come back from the dead, it was too late. I was no longer in this world.
——
There was a sudden rogue attack that came to our pack, the Scarlet Star Pack.
Despite our best efforts to stop them, the rogues were very vicious. There were lots of our warriors who died protecting us. Nonetheless, they even managed to get to the castle to slay some people at the castle.
I looked at my husband, Alpha Oliver Tilbury of the Scarlet Star Pack. While I knew that the Alpha preferred his mistress, Meredith Smith, over me, I still expected that he would choose me over her. After all, I was still his Luna.
The rogue leader then looked at my husband as the former asked the latter, “So, which ones I can take? The Luna or this girl?”
But life was cruel. It seemed that it would never ever favor me in this life. After all, what I heard next was heartbreaking.
Alpha Oliver shouted to the rogue’s leader as he hugged his mistress tightly even though I knew very well that she wasn’t injured, “Take my Luna! But don’t you ever take my Meredith!”
The moment my husband said it, the leader of the rogues kidnapped me and brought me to the forest.
Unfortunately, they had no idea that I would fight back really hard. I was the daughter of the late Alpha Jeremy Pritchett of the Golden Claw Pack, which was well-known for its strength. So, I was also trained as hard as the pack warriors.
As soon as I shifted into my wolf, Sophia, I was able to kill almost all the rogues. Except for the leader who was able to stab me with a silver dagger imbued with silverbane before he ran away. Nevertheless, I was able to get back to my pack who immediately revered me as their hero.
Unfortunately, the injuries were too fatal by the time I came back. Not even the pack doctors were able to help me. I could only lay on the bed weakly as the pack doctors tried their best to heal me as best as they could, but to no avail.
As the days passed by, I was getting weaker and weaker. People at the castle thought that my weak condition would bring the Alpha back to me. Sadly, they had no idea of how wrong they were.
They were left horrified to see what my estranged husband said instead before he left to comfort his mistress.
Oliver arrogantly announced, “It must be one of her tricks! It’ll be better if she dies! That way, I can freely marry my Meredith! Summon that damn Moon Priestess so that I could marry my Meredith as soon as that weak woman died.”
I was left broken and humiliated by his last words to me.
Realizing that my husband wouldn’t even be with me in my final moments was a truly heartbreaking moment for me.
A voice then said sadly as they held my hand, “Luna, I’m so sorry about this.”
If only that was my husband’s voice. But it wasn’t. Instead, the voice belonged to Edward Plummer who was the Beta of the Scarlet Star Pack. This man was one of the most honorable men I had ever seen in this pack.
I could recall that he tried to talk to the Alpha to choose me over the Alpha’s mistress because I was the Luna. But he was immediately rebuked by my husband by using the Alpha voice. Even if he was restricted by my husband’s Alpha voice, he still tried to fight it albeit losing into submission.
Beta Edward’s voice then woke me up from my train of thoughts as he asked me gently, “Should I tell the messenger to tell the Alpha to come here, Luna?”
I responded to his question by shaking my head weakly as I replied, “You already know the answer, Beta.”
The Beta just turned his head down in shame, knowing the answer as well. I could see him gritting his teeth in frustration because I knew how hard he tried to bring my husband back to his conscience.
Yet, he failed because the Alpha was already fixated on his mistress.
“No need to feel bad, I can contact him through mind-link,” I told him in a reassuring manner.
As I expected, my husband refused my mind-link when I contacted him through the mind-link several times. Yet, something shocking happened. Just when I was about to give up talking through the mind-link, the Alpha answered.
‘Why are you keep contacting me through the mind-link?’ he asked me angrily through the mind-link.
That was his response to his dying Luna. I couldn’t help but thank the Moon Goddess for keeping my dignity because I was the only one who can heard him. After all, I would be humiliated if the Beta heard his response.
‘I’m dying here. Can you come to meet me?’ I told Oliver through the mind-link.
‘I know it’s one of your tricks, Charlotte! Don’t you ever trick me! Meredith needs me more than you because she’s carrying my child!’ he angrily told me before he ended the mind-link.
When I heard that Meredith was pregnant with his child, it felt as if the world fell apart. My whole body was shaking violently because it seemed that I was too shocked with the news. Seeing this, Edward tried to calm me down.
“Luna … I’m so sorry. Please forgive me,” the Beta sincerely apologized while he was trying to hold back his tears, but he ultimately failed as tears still fell from his cheeks.
Seeing that the Beta let out his tears falling from his cheeks, the pack doctors and my attendants were also no longer holding back their tears as they cried in unison.
A pack doctor said in tears, “Please forgive us, Luna Charlotte,”
“We’re sorry that we couldn’t help you, Luna. Please forgive us,” one of my attendants said as she cried.
All of them had already seen enough of my tragic story. Obviously, they sympathized with me. Thus, they couldn’t bear to see me dying without my husband by my side.
Eventually, I could see the Moon Priestess finally came. I could see that her gaze was full of sadness as her eyes met mine. As she held my hands gently, the pain I experienced throughout my body eased with her strong yet gentle energy. Still, it was really painful as I was slowly but surely succumbing to my illness.
“Luna Charlotte, are there any final words you want to say to us?” the Moon Priestess asked me.
As I looked at the Moon Priestess for one last time, my memories showed my miserable life. How the Alpha had disappointed me by choosing over his mistress again and again even until my last moments. Out of nowhere, fury took over me. But I knew this was a different kind of fury. It was more of the build-up of feelings that I had hidden inside my heart.
Before I left this world, I still remembered what I said.
“My spirit will never rest until you die in misery, Alpha!”
The last thing I could hear was what the Moon Priestess said, “May the Moon Goddess deliver your justice to free you, Luna Charlotte.”
As soon as the Moon Priestess said that, Sophia howled for the last time. My wolf came to embrace her death bravely. It was painful for me to lose my wolf, but it still happened.
Soon enough, everything then became very dark in less than a minute. Nevertheless, it became clear to me. I, Charlotte, no longer existed in this very world.
‘Goodbye, my miserable life,’ I said to myself before I let myself be swallowed by the darkness.
Chapter 2
Death felt … weird. I felt as if I was falling through a never-ending darkness. The pain from my injuries was still there, but it wasn’t as sharp anymore. Everything around me faded, making me wonder if this was it. Was death always painful like this?
However, something inside me didn’t give up. There was a small spark inside me. Even more shocking, I could hear a whisper in my chest that told me to keep fighting. Was it Sophia?
When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to find out that it wasn’t endless darkness.
I was floating above a scene that crushed my heart.
There was Oliver, my husband, the Alpha, laughing and celebrating with his mistress on Meredith’s luxurious mansion. Meredith, the woman he chose over me, stood beside him, her hand resting on her belly. So, she really was pregnant.
“Congratulations, Meredith!” Oliver said as he hugged her with joy.
Meredith smirked proudly.
“Yes, Alpha. I’m happy too.”
But then she put on a sad face as she asked, “But what about our child? Will our baby be a bastard?”
“Don’t worry,” Oliver said, his voice cold.
The Alpha continued, “I’ll get the Moon Priestess to sever my mating bond with that bitch. You’ll be my Luna, so our child won’t be a bastard.”
My heart shattered again. Someone who was supposed to be my husband was celebrating the child that might be mine, living a life that could be ours. Yet, they took that away from me.
But as I watched, something else caught my eye. The Beta, Edward, stood in the shadows. He was watching them with such a cold, calculating gaze that I had never seen from the usually kind Beta. It was as if he was planning something terrible.
‘What was Edward up to?’ I asked myself.
Chapter 3
From the limbo, I could see the castle that had once been my home. It felt surreal to watch it so clearly while being so detached from it. My heart hurt to see my husband, Alpha Oliver, and his mistress, Meredith, walking together into the castle.
Fury spread throughout my whole body as I kept watching them.
‘How could he show his mistress off like that as if he had won some prize?’ I asked myself.
The thought of them together made me feel sick. I could only watch, trapped between life and death, as my frustration grew with every step they took. Every memory I had came back rushing inside my head.
I remembered how I first met Oliver. My father, Alpha Jeremy Pritchett of the Golden Claw Pack, had saved Oliver’s parents, Alpha George and Luna Lilianne Tilbury, during a rogue attack when they visited our pack. To thank us, they arranged for me to marry Oliver.
At first, it felt like a dream. There was a time when Oliver and I loved each other deeply and shared many dreams for the future. But then Meredith came along.
That woman used to be a lady-in-waiting to Luna Lilianne, but she wanted more.
Meredith wanted to be a Luna because she kept being pushed by her greedy family. When Meredith found out I was engaged to Oliver, she grew envious and resentful. Still, the woman eventually became his mistress, doing everything she could to ruin our relationship.
From my current place, I could see how Meredith had twisted everything. She had turned Oliver against me with lies and deceit. She spread rumors that I wasn’t chaste, I was evil, and so many more. All of those rumors were to make herself look better and secure her position.
Meanwhile, the pack members gathered in the grand hall looked at Oliver and Meredith with clear disapproval. I saw them closing their eyes and whispering to each other. Their whispers reached me even from my spectral state.
A maid whispered, “Can you believe the Alpha is showing off his mistress like this?”
“This woman caused our Luna’s death,” a gardener said in anger.
Despite their visible disapproval, the pack remained silent. They had to live under Oliver’s rule, no matter how openly disrespectful he was to me. After all, they still wished to keep their heads above their shoulders.
On the other hand, the mistress seemed to enjoy the attention even if it was a negative one like the people at the castle had for her.
In fact, she smiled proudly as if telling them that it was that easy for her to replace me as Luna. It seemed to me that she took pleasure in the discomfort she caused like the whispers and the sideways glances from the others.
Meanwhile, Oliver sensed that the people at the castle clearly disagreed. It made his mood worse, but he tried to control it because his mistress was by his side. Nevertheless, I could still sense his impatience and desperation to distance himself from me. It was as if he wanted to erase me from both his life and his memory.
As the Alpha stormed through the hallways, he immediately shouted at the people. He asked about my whereabouts. To his shock, he was then met with grim news.
Sir Aaron Cunningham, the leader of the pack doctors, stepped forward. His expression looked stern yet solemn as he walked to my husband. The former then bowed before the latter with respect.
“Alpha,” Aaron respectfully called my husband even though I noticed that he was gritting his teeth as if he was holding back his anger.
The pack doctor then continued, “I’m afraid I have some tragic news. Unfortunately, Luna Charlotte-”
“Cut the crap! I don’t want to hear that woman’s name!” the Alpha cut the leader of the pack doctor.
The force of his rage was almost overwhelming even from where I hovered.
Oliver then grabbed Aaron by the collar as he said, “My Meredith is now pregnant with my child. You’d better take care of her from now on. I don’t care if Charlotte is dead or not!”
Aaron struggled to free himself from Oliver’s grip, but the doctor was able to let himself go. Although the doctor’s face was calm, his eyes showed a barely concealed fury to his Alpha.
“I’m going to sever my mating bond with her, so that I can marry my Meredith,” he loudly announced to everyone.
“So, where is my wife?” he asked everyone loudly, but nobody would answer.
That enraged the Alpha even more when nobody answered. On the other hand, Meredith looked satisfied when she saw everyone’s response. In fact, she smirked, which showed her true nature.
Seeing her face enraged me, but I knew that I couldn’t do anything.
“Alpha, please don’t worry. It must be one of her tricks. You know her very well about your wife, don’t you?” she said to Alpha who quickly calmed the man down.
Her cruel words were like a knife that twisted my heart. But before I could fully grasp the depth of her cruelty, my attention was quickly diverted by the Beta. While his face showed frustration, he made a slight smile as if he was satisfied.
Again, I thought to myself, ‘Why was Edward smiling? What was he planning?’
Edward’s smile grew, but he quickly hid it behind his usual stoic expression. It seemed that he found something satisfying in the chaos unfolding around him. I watched as he moved to the side while his gaze locked on Oliver with hidden meaning.
What happened before me felt like a puzzle piece falling into place, but I couldn’t see the whole picture. Edward’s behavior was intriguing and unsettling in my eyes. It made me more determined to see what would happen even though this whole scene made me uncomfortable.
