Chapter 7

Third Person's POV

She cried, whispering numerous words. She took the help of her neighbor, who helped her take her brother's body to the hospital as they had a car.

They took him to the operation room right away. While she sat there crying her heart out. Her white shirt was full of her brother's blood. Her hands trembled to see his blood freeze on her skin.

"You can't leave me. You can't. Please don't leave me." She kept on praying for her brother's healing. She paced back and forth to control her breathing that was coming out hard.

Finally, after two hours of the operation, the doctor came out, making her almost jump on him. He sighed as sadness was all over his face.

"Your brother's condition is still not stable. We are trying our best, but it seems like his body has given up. It's like he's running away from responding to us. We can't say anything for the next 24 hours. Pray for him."

With that, he walked away, leaving the shattered sister behind. Amelia cried for the whole night. She wasn't able to take even one wink of sleep. All she could do was cry and weep at her brother's condition.

The clock kept on ticking, and no one came to her. She was all alone, fighting with everything. She stared at the room's door where her brother was kept. He was still under observation.

Finally, 24 hours later, the news that made her hurt more arrived.

"I am sorry, Ms. Kale, but your brother is in a coma now."

Hearing the doctor's words, Amelia fell on the chair, numb. Her heart stopped beating, and her breathing halted. She didn't feel her own body anymore. Her soul was ripping out.

Her brother, her only family, her baby brother were on the verge of death. The doctor clearly said they had no idea when he would regain his consciousness. It may be months, years, or maybe never.

This thought made her lifeless. She cried, kissing her brother's pale hands again and again. Why are innocent people always punished, especially for things they never did?

Liam, his sister, and his mother were getting away with every poisonous act. They tried to win this case with dishonesty, while Amelia attempted to end it fair and square. Then why can't they do the same?

She knew her brother was becoming depressed. She knew how much he was suffering, but she never thought he would become suicidal. She never thought he had lost his strength that he gave up.

ONE MONTH LATER…

Amelia tried her best to earn money to handle her expenditure and her brother's hospital bills. She took the money out of her bag before heading to the reception.

"Hello. I am here to pay Harry Kale's monthly expenses." The nurse nodded and started checking the computer, but soon a tiny frown appeared on her face as she faced confused Amelia.

"But Ms. Kale, your brother's expenditures had been paid. Here is the copy of the receipt." Amelia abruptly grabbed the chit, and soon anger flooded in her veins reading the name on it.

Liam Stone

How dare he? How could he? She clutched the note, turning her knuckles pale in anger. Her blazing gaze met with a nurse who seemed confused and horrified by Amelia's sudden change.

"Give it back—the money this man had paid for my brother. I want to withdraw that money. Kindly give it back to me and take this money." The nurse didn't know what to say or do, but she decided not to interfere as it was not her business.

Amelia clenched the envelope in her hand before stomping out of the hospital. She was burning in rage. How can someone stoop so low? He already had done more than enough, and now he's showing pity.

She reached his company - the same place where she had beautiful yet horrible moments. Ignoring a painful feeling rising in her chest, she strolled towards Liam's office.

"Wait, Mrs. Stone, wait. Sir asked me not to let anyone enter." His secretary tried to stop her.

"It's Ms. Kale. Do not forget that." With that, she took quick and significant steps towards the office, ignoring the stunned girl.

She slammed the door open, meeting with the most disgusting scenario. She was beyond disgusted and felt ashamed that she was once this man's wife.

There he was, having his moment with a girl. She was on his table while he was busy fucking her like a mad man. Liam was half-naked while the girl was only in her undies.

They both stopped when Amelia slammed the door open. They both got startled, and instantly Liam stopped his actions. The girl squealed in surprise, getting away from Liam and grabbing her clothes to wear them.

She ran away from the room that Liam had in his office. It was a secure secret room that only a few people knew about. Liam also covered himself while Amelia was looking away from that disgusting scenario.

His secretary didn't dare enter as she already knew what he was doing inside.

"Amelia you. What are--" His words got cut as Amelia threw the envelope on his face along with the receipt.

"What do you think of yourself, you piece of shit? Do you think we are playing a game here? Do you find this funny? Do you find my brothers and my condition funny? You think I would accept money from a man who's responsible for my brother's condition?"

Chapter 8

Third person's POV

Amelia seethed at him, making him sigh heavily. "Damn, Amy. You were struggling financially, so I thought—"

"You thought what? Will you come and pay my brother's expenses like a hero? You're nothing but a reason for him to be on a deathbed. You and your sister are the most disgusting people I ever came across!" She yelled while she was in a fit of rage.

If Liam dared not to interfere and tried to cover her brother's medical bills, she wouldn't come over just to see that bastard.

But then again, it had been refunded to him. All her savings were almost empty, and she had to pay for it herself, not depending on anyone's help, especially when it came from the most hated person alive—Liam.

Meanwhile, as Liam heard it, it boiled his blood. He did his best to support her but ended up getting wronged.

He took steps towards her and stood before her, glaring at her.

"Amy, I have been trying to support you financially, but you won't accept it. What is wrong with you?!" Liam was puzzled. "You barely earn money. Just because of your damn brother, you suffer! You still dared to refund the money I paid for his bills?! What for?!"

She was about to interrupt, but Liam added, "It is you who wants to be a hero! Your ego lets you go through these experiences! Why can't you just apologize and admit your brother did it? In that simple way, your life will be back to normal…."

She shook her head. "I don't care if my suffering will be endless as long as I don't ask for your damn help!"

"Then what about your brother? Your brother assaulted my sister!" he replied and chuckled. "But still, you're taking his side. He, committing suicide, shows that he assaulted my si—"

His words were cut down with a sharp slap he received from her.

"The case is going on, Liam Stone. Don't forget that. You have no right to accuse him until he's proven guilty because I know. I have faith in my brother. And you will see him being declared innocent right before you. Mark my words."

"I know, Amy. Do you think you can still survive the trial?" Liam asked, smirking. "Let us see, Amy. Let us see who will win at the end."

Suddenly, he grabbed her arms, which she instantly shrugged off. Liam stopped breathing briefly when he witnessed disgust written over her face. She held both her arms up, shooting him a disgusted glare.

"Don't touch me with these disgusting hands of yours. I can't believe that I once loved you. I can't believe that I have been married to a selfish, self-centered, and power-hungry bastard like you!"

Liam stepped back in shock. When he heard her words, his heart vigorously drummed.

"Remember this, Liam. Mark my words. One day, you will cry tears of blood. You will beg for one glance of comfort from someone. You will crave genuine love, but you will be alone at that time. There will be no one for you. You will beg, but you won't hear anything in return." She stopped for a while, giving Liam a severe stare.

"Your regret will be your biggest punishment because of what you did to my brother; you will pay for your sin and the forgiveness you wouldn't get from anyone, not even yourself. One day, your selfishness will show you what losing everything with your hands feels like."

Something inside him broke when he heard those words from the woman he loved. She walked out of his office. Liam's eyes fell on the money spread on the floor. He grabbed the receipt and clutched it hard.

His eyes hardened, turning bloodshot as tears burned his gaze. Her every word hit him like a knife. But her last words made his insides flip upside down. He tried to ignore them, but something in her words scared him.

He was scared that her every word would turn into a horrible truth. He shook his head, reminding himself that his sister would never accuse someone, especially Harry, as he knew her sister always respected Harry; then why would she ruin the man she liked? That's impossible.

He sat on the couch, palming his forehead as a tear escaped his eyes. No matter how many women he took, no matter how many touches he felt on his body, Amelia's was and would remain different—a special one.

He kind of lost hope of getting his Amelia back. He did everything he could to make her submit to him, but nothing. He ruined their small business, bringing them to the streets. He destroyed their chances of winning the case.

But still, when he heard about Harry's suicide attempt, he couldn't help but feel immense grief, so he decided to help Amelia as he knew she was struggling financially.

But now, his last hope of helping and gaining her back broke out. There was no way his ex-wife would come back to him, not after being a cause of her brother's condition.

"She is right. I am selfish. Now, I will show her how selfish I can be."

Chapter 9

Amelia's POV

"I am sorry, Ms. Kale, but we are trying our best. Your brother seems like he doesn't want to wake up." Sighing heavily, I took those painful words in check.

Nodding at him, I stared at my brother's body, lying lifelessly on the bed. IVs were attached to his body.

My savings were almost empty. It wouldn't be enough to cover his medical expenses, let alone to help him survive.

I am damn tired, clueless, and have been crying endlessly day and night. My brother and I didn't deserve all our suffering because he was wronged.

"Don't worry, brother. Your sister wouldn't give up like you. I will fight till my last breath. I will," I whispered, kissing his pale hand before taking a deep breath and leaving the ward.

Right afterward, I met the nurse, who had checked my brother's current medical expenses. She checked the computer and reported, "Ms. Kale, I am afraid you must pay for it now. Your brother's stay here would increase his expenses, plus all the medications...."

I tried checking my savings and the money left in my wallet, but even if I combined them, they weren't enough.

My heart skipped a beat, and I wondered where to get money to cover it all.

"Will it be possible if I can pay for it next week?" I pleased the nurse; I had nothing left, even showing my money to her. "This is all that I have. I know it's not enough—"

The nurse took it and replied, "Okay, I'll deduct this from the current medical expenses, but please pay as soon as you can…."

I heaved a sigh and thanked the nurse despite her insisting I pay as soon as possible. Afterward, I left the hospital and walked out, feeling empty.

Only one man entered my mind to help me—Liam. But after his insults and what he had done to me, I wouldn't ask for his help. That bullshit was the reason behind our torments.

That damn man I used to love dared to let me struggle. I thought he loved me the way I loved him, but how could he stand seeing me in this situation? How could he be able to sleep realizing this?

Life was a cycle. His turn to suffer would come his way soon.

I shook those thoughts away as I went back home. There, I felt it was too heavy, so I sobbed. I have had enough of this.

"He can't tear us down. I will ensure you'll regret doing this to me, Liam…" I whispered.

Our business was not doing well, and Liam did an excellent job destroying it. I tried to revive it, hoping it would survive, but no.

The investors had already pulled out their shares. In addition, the declining sales had urged the company to go bankrupt. Liam succeeded again in dragging us.

Despite how he kept on dragging us down, it didn't stop me from looking for a way out. I couldn't just sit and wait for the worst thing to happen.

As the days passed, I continued hunting for a job. Mostly, I was rejected or denied, but I was lucky enough when that one company accepted me. It was a relief—finally, I could earn. Yet, it wasn't enough to cover all my brother's medical expenses. Although it had already been delayed, I could still gather funds and pay for some of it.

"Liam, whatever you do, you can't stop me. You can't control me to come back to you…" I mumbled.

It was crystal clear he was doing it; maybe he expected that he would be my last resort. He might have expected that I would come to him one day, submit, beg, and ask for help.

No, it would never happen. Let that bullshit keep on dreaming.

As soon as I started working, I got fired out of nowhere. At first, I thought it was normal, but not until I got another job did I realize I was getting fired. I only worked for a week or hardly a month in any place as I always got fired.

Yet, that didn't tire me of looking for a new job. It might be part-time or full-time, but I never mind as long as I can earn a living.

I knew it was Liam who was behind all of this. He kept on playing with us and seemed to enjoy seeing me in pain. I almost could not control myself and confront that damn bastard again, but I didn't dare to do so just to prove that I could stand all these adversities, whatever it took.

Two weeks passed. The pain still lingered within me and could not almost make me sleep. Hiding it all deep within me, I attended the trial once again. The case kept on going against us. It sucks!

I couldn't believe Liam would play dirty with us again. Was he not satisfied? Harry and I had already suffered. I feel ashamed that I forgot my worth once I loved that man more than myself.

"Amelia."

Out of the blue, I returned to my senses, and soon, my name was mentioned, startling me. A familiar face appeared before me, making me smile slightly.
