Chapter 1
"Your brother tried to force himself on my sister, Amelia! Your brother is a fucking rapist!" Liam's voice cut through the tense silence like a knife.
It was the first thing that Amelia heard as she rushed into the place, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and confusion.
There, she found her husband, Liam Stone, standing rigid with fury, his face contorted with rage. His mother, Luna, was by his side, her expression equally hostile and resolute. Across the room, Liam's sister, Rose, was sobbing uncontrollably, her body trembling with fear and exhaustion.
"What the hell are you saying, Liam? That's ridiculous. Harry would never do such a thing!" Her mind reeled. The accusation was so shocking, so unbelievable. She shook her head, trying to process what she was hearing.
Yet the more she absorbed the situation, the more she realized how real everything was. They were looking at her and Harry as if they sinned against the world, and they would never hear them out after choosing which side to believe.
"This is not a joke, Amy. Your brother is a monster! He—He fucking violated my sister! Can't you hear me? Can't you process how huge his crime is?" Her husband shouted in rage, his veins almost showing in his neck while stepping closer to point at Harry, who was behind Amelia, weakened and devastated.
Among everyone there, Liam most believed Rose, even though she was not his real sister. All he believed was that Rose was innocent and almost forced into something she didn't want.
However, even with their madness and the flames of their desire to hurt Amelia's brother, Amelia could not bring herself to believe everything easily. If there were someone in the world who knew Harry better than anyone, it would be her!
"I-It can't be... There must be something wrong, Liam."
Liam's eyes blazed with anger, his fists clenched at his sides. "You think I'm lying? Rose, tell her what happened."
Although her brother wanted her to open her mouth to speak, Rose's sobs grew louder, but she didn't speak. Her silence only added to the weight of the accusation. That was when Luna, Liam and Rose's mother, stepped forward, her voice filled with cold fury. "Harry is a monster, Amelia! He hurt my daughter; he violated my Rose."
At that moment, Amelia felt her knees weaken. She turned to her brother, Harry, who was standing in the corner, tears streaming down his face. His eyes met hers, filled with desperation and fear.
Amelia caressed his cheek and wiped the non-stop tears on his skin.
"Harry, is this true?" She softly asked. "Tell me everything. I am with you, so don't be afraid."
Hearing her voice made Harry shake his head vehemently, his voice cracking with desperation. "I swear— I swear to God! I didn't do anything to Rose. I swear on our mother's graves."
That was it.
In a swift movement of his body, Liam strode forward and punched Harry hard in the face, causing everyone to gasp and Amelia to widen her eyes in surprise.
Her brother groaned and held his cheek, almost stumbling on the ground.
"Liam!" Amelia roared. "Do you think hurting my brother will solve anything? You and your damn temper! We are not even sure what the truth is yet!"
When Liam heard how both of them refused to acknowledge everything, his anger boiled over, his face flushed with rage. "How dare you deny it when everything clearly happened?" His voice thundered and faced Amelia after, "And how can you defend this bastard? He's a rapist! Are you fucking kidding me? Look at my sister carefully, Amy! Look at the wounds and bruises in her body! The evidence isn't lying! Open your eyes and be a decent human being. If Rose hadn't hit him with the vase, the worst could have happened!"
It was evident that Liam wanted his wife to side with them, but Amelia stood her ground.
"Look, I am not saying she's lying, but I also know my brother, Liam. If anyone here knows him, it's me. What if this is all a mistake? What if he's innocent?" Amelia's own anger began to rise. Her protective instincts kicked in, the same instincts that had made her almost like a second parent to Harry after their mother died.
She turned her head to Harry, who was crying like there was no tomorrow. Her brother and Rose were also on the verge of breaking down.
"Damn it! I said, look at the evidence, Amelia. Rose's testimony, the broken vase. How can you ignore that?" Liam's face twisted with disbelief and frustration.
There were only two evidence as of now, first, Rose's testimony and her account of what had happened between them, and next was the broken vase in the room where it allegedly happened. Now that Amelia was looking at it, seeing broken things meant that there was something forceful that occurred. Yet, that, too, was just circumstantial evidence.
For her, they should not conclude things based on those alone.
Amelia took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "It's not enough," she insisted, her voice shaking but resolute. "We need more proof. What if everything is a setup?"
"Are you calling my daughter a liar?" Luna's face turned crimson with anger.
"No," Amelia said firmly, trying to keep her composure. "But we need a proper investigation. We need to settle everything in the court."
That was the only way she could think of where balance between two sides could happen. If they based everything on feelings and emotions, Harry would only carry everything. Amelia still believed that her brother was innocent, so she would make sure that Harry would clean his name.
However, it seemed like the Stone family thought otherwise. Luna shook her head, glaring at her. "Court? That will only hurt Rose more. It will continuously make her remember the awful memories! It will stain her reputation, and will make her look like a disgrace! We should marry them off instead."
Shaking his head, Harry immediately said, "No, I wouldn't marry Rose! Why don't you people believe me? I didn't even touch her. I swear to God, she's lying. Please, I love Kelly. I love her so much, only her."
Liam's patience snapped. He stepped forward and punched Harry again, who fell to the ground. Amelia rushed forward, shoving Liam away, fury and desperation in her eyes. "Stop it, Liam! I told you to stop hurting him!"
"You want to protect a rapist?" Liam looked at her with cold contempt, his voice dripping with disdain.
Their eyes locked, both anger and motivation fighting.
"Harry is innocent until proven guilty." Amelia stood her ground, her voice shaking but determined.
"Fine. We'll see each other in court. I'll make sure Harry rots in jail. I'll get justice for Rose. You think your brother is innocent, huh? Prepare to lose because I'm warning you, I will drag this to the ends of Earth until Rose gets the peace she deserves." Liam's face hardened, his eyes glinting with cold resolve.
He turned to Amelia, his voice low and dangerous. "Choose, Amelia. Him or me? If you choose your brother, then be ready for our divorce. But if you choose me, you must end your relationship with your brother."
Chapter 2
"Choose, Amelia. He or I? If you choose your brother, then be ready for divorce. But if you choose me, you must end your relationship with your brother."
She closed her eyes, too confused by the sudden chaos. Never did it cross her mind she would come to this place just to see Harry being abused, accused, and invalidated.
When Amelia arrived at this place, she was mixed up. She left petrified to see Rose, Luna, her brother, Kelly, and even Liam.
It was loud and clear that Liam had been sweet to her lately, but it was not until that call that he received and came there. She never thought of seeing his true color. He was never the same man she knew before….
Flashback….
Amelia smiled and looked down at the pregnancy file in her hands. She wanted to tell her husband but didn't know what to do. She'd known about it for a week but couldn't muster the courage to tell him.
"Baby…" Her husband's voice startled her, and she quickly hid the file under the pillows. She stood up, smiling at him as he walked in and hugged her.
He moaned slightly, cradling his head in her crook and smiling contentedly. "Babe, what happened? You look tired." He hummed as he tightened his grip on her and kissed her all over her nape.
But she eventually pushed him away, making him pout. She chuckled and pointed to the restroom. Sulking, he walked to the toilet. She sighed, grabbing the file and hiding it in the cupboard again. Whatever happens, she has to tell him.
"Liam, listen, I have something important to tell you," she said.
"Oh, what is it, baby?" Liam raised an eyebrow.
"I'm pre..." She was interrupted as Liam's phone started to ring, forcing him to answer it.
"Okay, fine, I am coming." Liam was ready to leave. Amelia looked at him with confusion.
"I have to go. Rose and Luna asked for me, and they said it was urgent. I even heard Rose crying. I need to go there." Amelia nodded her head, and Liam ran outside after kissing her forehead.
She frowned, slapping her forehead, remembering that she had to meet her brother today. She was about to get her bag, but then she got a message from her brother's fiancée asking her to come to the place. She messaged her.
Amelia wanted to know why, but she went to the place after reading that it was urgent. She knew Kelly would never message her something like this. The matter seems serious.
…. End of Flashback.
The two had the same destination but left home separately. They ended up meeting at the same place, siding on different sides.
Amelia was with her brother, while Liam was on Rose's side. Amelia loved Liam, but she also cared for Harry the most. It would be hard for her to choose, but at this time, she was sure she needed to sacrifice her love for Liam.
Liam's eyes this time were practically begging his only love to come to him, to choose him, but no. Her brother was always more than anything to her.
"I will never leave my brother when he needs me the most. What kind of a sister would I be if I couldn't stand with him in this condition?"
Liam chuckled sadly as he nodded his head.
"Okay. My lawyer will contact you tomorrow about the divorce and the charges against your brother."
"No, Liam, wait—” Harry tried stopping Liam, but Amelia grabbed his wrist, shaking her head.
"Fine. If your sister's accusations matter more than our three-year marriage, it's fine. Go ahead. Divorce me. I will sign the papers. But…"
She walked closer to Liam, looking at him with teary eyes. Liam stared back, almost begging her not to do this.
"Once I signed those papers. We will never be one again. Never."
Liam nodded before pulling Rose, followed by Luna, who avoided eye contact with Amelia and Harry.
Harry hugged his sister, who smiled, rubbing his back. He was blaming himself. But Amelia knew it wasn't him. It was Liam's ego, his too much trust in his stepsister, and his lack of respect for her and her brother.
Even though everything crumbled down that time, the man who crushed it never thought that one day he would cry, trying to grab those shattered pieces only to have nothing in return— nothing.
Chapter 3
Amelia's POV
I cried even harder, clutching my chest. How could he? How can he end our years-long relationship in just a few minutes? What went wrong? What did I do to deserve this punishment?
I need to talk to him. This is not the right thing to do. We've been in love for a long time. He can't do this to me... to us just because his stepsister has accused him and my brother has been accused.
After some deliberation, I decided to approach him. I dialed his number while holding it close to my ear. Someone picked up the phone on the first ring, and silence descended.
I closed my eyes, letting more tears fall. I can hear his harsh breathing.
"Liam," I whispered, making him sigh out.
"Amy." I heard his raspy voice. He sounded like he was crying and was drunk.
"Don't do this, Liam. We can handle this matter first. We don't have to get divorced yet. Please," I said, almost begging him.
"I don't want to do this either, Amy. Just come to me. I l-love you so much. P-Please stop standing up for him. Just come to me and leave him. P-Please." I closed my eyes, hearing his cracked tone.
"I can't, Liam. He's my brother. Why can't you understand this?" I heard him scoff.
"And she's my sister, Amy. I promised my father to protect her. I can't do this to her. Your presence will always remind her of your brother's barbaric act. Just come to us and tell her that you support her. You can save us, Amy."
I wiped my tears, feeling helpless. "Fine, then. You fight for your sister. And I will fight for my brother. Because if my brother is guilty, I will ask for Rose's forgiveness kneeling on my knees, but I would never leave him until proven guilty."
"Fine. Do whatever you want. You want to destroy us, then fine. I don't know you anymore, Amelia. I don't - I don't k-know you anymore."
With that, he cut the call but not before I heard his loud sob.
More tears made their way to my pale cheeks as slowly my whimpers turned into loud sobs. Why, Liam, why can't you wait? Why do you want to end us like this?
"Amy." I heard Harry's voice. I wanted to wipe my tears. I didn't want him to blame himself for my pain. But as much as tears I tried wiping away, more made their way to my cheeks.
I stared at him with teary and sad eyes as another sob left from my lips. "I am sorry, sis. I am sorry." He hugged me tightly, crying as well. I shook my head, kissing his forehead.
"No, you don't have to. I trust you, my brother. Even if I have to sacrifice more than I already had lost, we will fight. I wouldn't back off. We will prove your innocence. I promise your sister will never leave you. You have to be strong."
He nodded his head, wiping my tears. I did the same as we hugged each other again.
Third Person's POV
Eight years ago, Amelia was kicked out by her father, for being a "disgrace" to the family. When Harry found out, he was furious and fiercely defended her. Their mother had passed away when they were young, leaving them to rely on each other for support. In the end, Harry made the choice to leave with Amelia, cutting all ties with their so-called family.
Amelia had always been obsessed with chemistry. So after being kicked out, she worked so hard to support both herself and Harry through their studies. She took on numerous part-time jobs while pursuing her chemistry degree in college. After graduating, she became an accomplished chemist and started her own small chemistry company.
Because of this small company, Amelia was able to provide for herself and her brother more easily.
It was during this time that she crossed paths with Liam. They discovered they had many similarities, which made it effortless for them to develop a deep connection.
Liam's father died when Liam was 21. Rose was the daughter of his father from his second marriage with Luna. Both mother and daughter had been kind to Amelia and Liam all over. Even though he never really liked Luna, Liam vowed to protect and give his stepsister everything she wished for.
When Liam turned 21, his father passed away. Rose, Liam's half-sister from his father's second marriage to Luna, and Luna herself, had always shown kindness towards Amelia and Liam. Despite Liam's reservations about Luna, he made a promise to protect Rose and fulfill her every desire.
People say right. Too much jealousy is the most vicious disease. Once a body catches it, it always ends up destroying everything, including one's self.
Weeks passed by, and as promised, Liam sent the divorce papers and attempted rape charges on Harry. Harry was arrested, but it didn't shock them as they already knew it would happen.
Everything had started, but somewhere in Amelia's heart, she still wanted to save her crumbling marriage because divorce was not a solution for her. In her view, she and Liam had to wait for the proper results, but Liam refused to listen to her.
-----
Holding the divorce papers, she walked inside the house. The same place she once called hers. She wanted to talk to him, even if it was the last time. But divorce is not a joke.
She suddenly froze in her place when she heard groaning and moaning sounds. She recognized that groan. But the difference was the moan wasn't hers. Blood rushed to her ears, and her heart went numb.
Soon the door of the room slammed open, and a half-naked Liam walked out. He still didn't notice her as he walked towards the hallway where she was standing.
Soon his steps halted when his eyes fell on the pale feet standing in front of him. His eyes roamed upwards and finally met with those electric grey ones. Her empty and numb gaze met his.
She looked lost while he looked horrified. Liam was frozen. He didn't expect her to catch him in an act. He looked at her with pure guilt and she with disappointment.
They heard footsteps, and finally, the lawyer came inside.
She brought out a pen and opened the divorce papers without another word. Without any hesitation, to Liam's shock, she signed the papers and handed them to the lawyer, who had pitiful eyes.
"Babe, where are --"
A girl came out only covered in a blanket. She instantly went inside after seeing another man there. The lawyer's face scrunched in disgust.
"After finalizing the divorce, give me the copy, Lupas."
Lupas, the lawyer, nodded before muttering.
"You still have time. You can talk out.--"
His words cut short with Amelia's chuckle.
"Marriage has some limits, Lupas. And once those limits have been crossed, there is nothing left to talk." She turned her gaze to Liam, who had teary eyes.
"Our marriage has crossed it."
With that, she walked out of the house. Liam didn't follow her as well, even though his heart was screaming to run towards her. But how could he? He's the one who knowingly crushed them.
He took the papers and signed them.
Their divorce was finalized. That time Amelia understood one thing. She has to give her brother justice—a justice he deserves.
She must do whatever it takes to prove her brother's innocence.
