Chapter 1 of My Husband Wanted to Elope with His Childhood Sweetheart

I had been married for three years to my husband, Wesley Harrington, who was staying home full time to speculate in the stock market.

I provided all his living expenses, but not only did he lose me a lot of money, but he brought his childhood sweetheart, Joyce Wilson, from his rural hometown to my house. I had to provide her with food and a place to live, and Wesley forced her into an internship in our company.

When I gave Joyce any advice, she would cry and complain, and Wesley would scold me for not knowing what I was doing.

Joyce rumored about me everywhere, causing me to lose my job.

As I asked Joyce, Wesley slapped me across the face. Then, he turned around and hugged her.

"My stock has skyrocketed, and I'm divorcing the bitch!"

I thought, "Well, he may be lucky, but he doesn't have a chance to spend that money."

——

As I returned home after being exhausted all day, a buxom girl was sitting on the sofa wrapped in a bath towel, leaning over Wesley's shoulder.

I was furious. "Wesley, what are you doing?"

The two, however, looked quite calm.

Wesley put his arm around Joyce's shoulders. "Honey, this is my sister, Joyce Wilson, from my hometown."

"Isabella, nice to meet you." Joyce looked enthusiastic, but she peered at me with quite hostile eyes.

"Your sister?" I sneered, "Is she your cousin or friend? How come I didn't know when we got married?"

Joyce seemed as if she was terrified. "Isabella, don't get me wrong. Wesley and I are like brother and sister."

"Isabella won't think much of it." Wesley comforted her, "Joyce has already been a senior, and she's looking for an internship company. Isabella, you always brag about how well you do at your company, so how about you ask Joyce to be an intern coach tomorrow?"

Wesley was using a totally commanding tone.

I held back my anger. "I can help her find an internship company, but our company is about yoga and fitness. Her physique might not be a good fit."

"What do you mean? Do you think Joyce is overweight?" Wesley was furious, pointing at me and cursing me, "Joyce is a senior graduate from Hamlin University, and she majored in journalism. It would be an honor for you if she interned at your shitty company. Who are you to be picky?"

"Since she was so awesome, why did you beg me?"

I change my shoes, and I carried the dinner I bought from outside back to my bedroom.

Wesley tried to rush over, but Joyce stopped him as she cried her eyes out.

"Wesley, I don't blame Isabella, I'm overweight."

Wesley spat. "Are you heavy? You have a perfect figure. Her strong body looks disgusting and ugly and hard to the touch. I was blind to marry her in the first place!"

Joyce cried as she persuaded, "Wesley, stop it."

I closed the bedroom door and watched the soap opera while I ate.

Wesley, however, kept knocking on the door. "Joyce and I are hungry. Joyce and I are hungry. Go make two pasta dishes."

Over the past years, I made all the money for the family, and Wesley spent my money speculating in stocks right after he graduated. He lost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but he never dared to ask me to cook or do housework.

Wesley wanted to be manly in front of his dear childhood sweetheart today, didn't he?

After a while, Joyce dragged him away. "Forget it. Wesley, Isabella's been tired all day. How about we order takeout?"

Wesley shouted on purpose, "All men will want virtuous wives, and a woman like her is just lucky to be married to me!"

I didn't have any feelings for him for a long time, so his words couldn't hurt me.

But my parents were so traditional that they thought it was a scandal for a woman to get divorced.

My parents were even locking me in my room to keep us from getting divorced, and they told Wesley about it.

Before we could finalize the divorce, they helped Wesley cancel the application.

So, I could only endure it like this.

I was busy until midnight before I went to bed.

Joyce knocked on my door at seven in the morning.

"Isabella, I bought you breakfast, so get up and eat."

"Enjoy yourself." I covered my ears in annoyance.

I didn't work until the afternoon, so I usually didn't get up until nine or ten in the morning.

Joyce, however, persisted in knocking on the door. "Isabella, it's from a very famous breakfast restaurant, and I waited in line for a long time. You should eat it while it's still fresh, or it won't taste good, and it's bad for your stomach."

Wesley also helped her knock on the door. "Isabella, Joyce bought breakfast especially for you. Don't be ungrateful."

He obviously knew my routine best.

I couldn't take it anymore, so I opened the door, threw the breakfast in Joyce's hand into the trash can, and went back to bed.

Joyce burst into tears. "Isabella, I'm sorry, I didn't know your tastes. If you had told me, I would have remembered, and I wouldn't make the mistake of upsetting you next time."

Wesley reassured her worriedly, kicking the door harshly. "Isabella, are you insane? Why are you going so far? Apologize to Joyce now!"

I changed, opened the door, pushed them away, and carried my computer bag to the coffee shop near the office.
