Chapter 3

Shawn and I met through a blind date.

My father and Shawn's father were comrades-in-arms.

One of them had advanced lung cancer and the other had advanced liver cancer.

Our father's wish was to see us have our own family.

With the help of both parties, Shawn and I got together after we met.

We were together not because of love, but for our fathers.

We got married half a month later.

After marriage, Shawn treated me very politely.

He spoke softly and politely, just like a modest gentleman.

If I hadn't heard from others how he acted when he broke up with his first love, I would have thought he was just like that.

That day his partner Kevin White came to our house for dinner.

I didn't have classes in the afternoon, so I went home early and prepared dinner in the kitchen.

Shawn and Kevin didn't notice me when they came back.

Kevin was standing at the entrance telling how Shawn cried hysterically when he broke up with his first love.

I lost my grip on the shovel and it fell to the ground with a sharp sound.

"Alice, you're home?"

I picked up the shovel and met Kevin's evasive eyes.

Shawn naturally took the shovel from my hand and said softly, "I'll do it!"

It was then that I realized Shawn was not a man without feelings.

But the person he had feelings for was not me!

Chapter 4

Shawn was coaxing Mian to sleep in her room, and I was tossing and turning in bed.

I tried hard to recall the name of Shawn's first love that was mentioned by Kevin.

Just when I was about to figure it out, Shawn pushed the door open.

Seeing that I was not asleep yet, he was slightly startled.

"I'm going to take a shower first, you sleep first!"

I knew what he meant.

In the past six months, although we slept in the same bed every night, we never had sex.

Every time I slept close to him, he would find an excuse to get away.

"Okay!" I responded, turned over, and pretended to sleep.

I heard the sound of water in the bathroom, and I got up and picked up Shawn's cell phone.

There was no password, and the screen showed a photo of Mian.

When I opened WhatsApp, there was nothing unusual except for the conversations between him and the company employees.

Maybe I was overthinking it?

Chapter 5

In the next few weeks, my schedule was full, and several teachers had to switch classes with me because of a fever.

After they recovered, I fell ill.

I took the advantage to have a good rest at home.

I was lying at home feeling restless that day, so I thought about picking up Mian from school.

I didn't tell Shawn about it. I planned that, after picking up Mian, the three of us to go out to have dinner and watch a movie.

When I was almost there, I suddenly remembered what Mian said last time about buying flowers.

Seeing that there was still time, and there happened to be a flower shop not far from the school, I got up and walked towards there.

The spring after the rain was like an ink painting. Small buds emerged from the soil, showing vitality.

I turned the corner and saw Shawn's car parked on the side of the road.

Just as I was about to go forward, I caught a glimpse of Shawn at the door of the flower shop, holding a bouquet and sniffing them.

He smelled the flowers in his hand and a smile that I had never seen before appeared on his face.

I remembered what Mian said about Shawn sending flowers to Ms. Milton.

My heart felt as if it was cut by a knife, and the stinging pain quickly spread throughout my body.

I quickly hid aside like a peeper, raised my phone, and adjusted the focus to the maximum.

Was that bouquet for Ms. Milton as Mian said?
