Chapter 3

He always treated me in a businesslike manner,

because he liked someone else.

Matt had a girlfriend for four years before marrying me.

I heard it from someone.

He prepared for a whole year to propose to her.

But my appearance disrupted all his plans.

I still remembered the first time I saw him.

At that time, I had just experienced a severe earthquake.

That sudden earthquake took away all my family members,

my parents and grandparents.

But I survived, covered in bruises and dirt.

The only valuable thing on me

was the token my grandfather gave me before he passed away.

He said that as long as I find Matt's grandfather, I would receive help from him.

I listened to his words and found him.

I wanted to ask for a meal.

But when he knew that my family all died in the earthquake,

feeling sorry for me, he didn't trust others to take care of me,

insisting on letting Matt marry me and taking responsibility for my remaining years.

After Matt knew about this, he was furious and angrily scolded me, "Can this country girl match me? You are really confused and can't judge people!"

But in the end, he still married me.

And as promised by his grandfather, he fulfilled the responsibilities of a husband.

He would report on business trips and bring me gifts when he came back.

But he had never been kind to me.

I knew, he still hadn't let go of that woman in his heart.

So, I wanted to help them be together.

I didn't have much time left. There was no need for me to hold onto him.

But he would never know in his lifetime.

We knew each other a long time ago.

He said he wanted to marry me.

Chapter 4

The next day, I woke up in a daze.

My neighbor Annie came knocking on the door.

When she saw me, she handed me the dim sum she made herself.

They were wrapped in bamboo leaves, faintly emitting a natural fragrance.

She smiled and said, "These are local specialty in my hometown and I made them myself. If you don't mind, please try some."

I haven't met such an enthusiastic person for a long time.

I took it with surprise.

"Thank you so much, Annie."

Annie shook her head and said with a worried expression, "This is nothing. Anyway, this place is going to be developed. The bamboo forest in the back mountain will also be turned into a park. It's a waste to leave the bamboo there."

The house I lived in belonged to my grandfather.

I hadn't come back since they left.

I didn't know that this place was going to be developed.

"Really? When did this happen?"

'"t the beginning of the year, people came to investigate on site. I heard that there would be people coming to talk to those who didn't want to move. You are alone at home, so you must be careful about your safety."

I felt a wave of disappointment in my heart.

I thought this would be my last way out.

I didn't expect it to be cut off so quickly.

Maybe even God thought I should die in that earthquake.

Chapter 5

I remember what Annie said and closed the gate after the sun went down,

afraid that someone would break in.

After all, the developers on TV were quite fierce.

I couldn't deal with it alone.

I was sick and couldn't eat much.

I ate a few bites and I was full.

I simply lay on the old armchair left by my grandmother and took a rest.

But at this moment,

there was suddenly a series of uneven knocking sounds outside the door.

Judging from the sound, there was more than one person knocking on the door.

I was a little scared, so I tightened my coat.

I cautiously opened a small gap.

Thinking that if the person who came was fierce and evil, I would call the police.

But when I saw the person standing at the door, I was stunned.

Matt also saw me, and his calm face instantly turned gloomy, "What are you doing here?"

His words were not a question, but an accusation.

I tightly held the hem of my clothes and murmured, "This is my grandfather's house."

He seemed to think I was talking nonsense.

His face showed some displeasure.

"I mean, why aren't you staying at home? What are you doing here?"

From his tone, he knew this was my grandfather's house.

I paused and looked at him, "And what about you? What are you doing here?"

There were many people behind him, all peering at me.

Matt frowned and waved his hand slightly.

The leader instantly understood his meaning and left with the group.
