Chapter 1

When my life almost came to the end,

the first thing I did was to hand over the divorce agreement to my husband who didn't like me.

The second thing was to go back to my hometown and wait for death.

Unexpectedly, not long after I returned home,

the developer in the town came to the nail households who were unwilling to move one by one.

And my nominal husband was the developer here.

When he saw me, he shouted at me to go back without saying a word.

But this was my last way out.

I said with a brave face, "Can you let me stay for a while longer? I will leave soon."

"I would never appear in front of you again."

...

***

I didn't know if it was because I hadn't been back for a long time.

I was a little unaccustomed to the weather in the small town.

I occasionally caught a cold and had a fever.

Maybe it was because I was approaching the end of my life, I had developed a fear of hospitals.

I dared not go to the hospital for a check-up, so I bought some fever-reducing medicine from the pharmacy outside.

My headache was severe at the moment, and I was tossing and turning in bed.

I struggled to sit up.

It felt like something was about to come out of my chest.

I couldn't help but cover my mouth and cough violently.

My chest kept vibrating.

It hurt so much that I could hardly breathe.

Waiting until I calmed down,

I tremblingly came to the bathroom.

My whole palm was soaked in blood, and the air was filled with a strong sweet and bloody smell.

I washed my hands and leaned on the washbasin, looking at myself in the mirror.

The scattered long hair stuck to my face in a mess.

But my face was pale without any color of blood.

After the dizziness faded away, I started to clean the blood stains on my body.

Fortunately, there was only me at home, so no one would see me in this miserable state.

But if Matt saw me like this...

He should think that I was trying to attract his attention again.

I smiled helplessly and coughed even harder.

Because of the fever, the coughing affected my ears buzzing.

After a while, I finally recovered.

I went to get some water and took painkillers.

Anyway, I still needed to sleep.

Chapter 2

Just when I was half asleep, the phone on the bedside table suddenly rang.

I struggled to sit up, gasping for breath and picked up the phone.

When I saw the name flashing on the screen,

I was stunned.

My heart started to feel conflicted.

It was from Matt.

Should I answer or not?

Considering the time, he should have returned from his business trip by now.

Then he should have seen the divorce agreement that I placed conspicuously on the coffee table.

Maybe he called

just for this matter.

I hesitated for a moment and answered the phone.

Without waiting for me to speak, his cold voice came through the phone.

He said, "I have some urgent matters to attend to, so I will be back a few days later."

Just a simple sentence, without any emotions,

it was like casually mentioning the itinerary or reporting official business.

I pinched my fingertips and muttered.

A complex emotion surged up in my heart.

It turned out that he hadn't seen the divorce agreement yet.

Matt didn't talk to me that much.

After saying this, he hung up the phone directly.

Chapter 3

He always treated me in a businesslike manner,

because he liked someone else.

Matt had a girlfriend for four years before marrying me.

I heard it from someone.

He prepared for a whole year to propose to her.

But my appearance disrupted all his plans.

I still remembered the first time I saw him.

At that time, I had just experienced a severe earthquake.

That sudden earthquake took away all my family members,

my parents and grandparents.

But I survived, covered in bruises and dirt.

The only valuable thing on me

was the token my grandfather gave me before he passed away.

He said that as long as I find Matt's grandfather, I would receive help from him.

I listened to his words and found him.

I wanted to ask for a meal.

But when he knew that my family all died in the earthquake,

feeling sorry for me, he didn't trust others to take care of me,

insisting on letting Matt marry me and taking responsibility for my remaining years.

After Matt knew about this, he was furious and angrily scolded me, "Can this country girl match me? You are really confused and can't judge people!"

But in the end, he still married me.

And as promised by his grandfather, he fulfilled the responsibilities of a husband.

He would report on business trips and bring me gifts when he came back.

But he had never been kind to me.

I knew, he still hadn't let go of that woman in his heart.

So, I wanted to help them be together.

I didn't have much time left. There was no need for me to hold onto him.

But he would never know in his lifetime.

We knew each other a long time ago.

He said he wanted to marry me.
