Chapter 5

For several days after that, Elliott would go home on time after finishing his work at the company.

After coming back, he put down his phone, put on an apron, and went into the kitchen.

After working for two hours, several dishes were finally served. They didn't look very good, but the presentation was very attentive.

Elliott approached me cautiously.

"Victoria, I was not nice to you before. I will make it up to you in the future."

He spoke in an awkward tone, with guilt, and came over to hold my hand.

"Actually, nothing had happened between Emily and me. I just wanted to piss you off and make you apologize, so I deliberately let you misunderstand.

"I'm sorry, Victoria."

His tone was so sincere that I almost thought he was telling the truth.

He thought this would move me.

But I couldn't help but think of the day after our wedding anniversary when he made a special trip home to apologize to me.

His expression that day was just as sincere and affectionate as it was now.

But he didn't notice that there was still a lipstick mark on the side of his cheek.

That trace of lipstick was like a thorn, piercing my heart.

At that moment, I understood everything.

But now, he actually said that there was nothing between him and Emily. He lied.

I shook my head, put down the divorce agreement, and placed it in the most obvious place on the table. "Whether it is true or not, we know it very well.

"You should sign it when you have time. I don't want to embarrass us, Elliott."

I turned around and went back to my room with my laptop and locked the door.

Elliott hovered at the door for a long time. His footsteps stopped. He seemed to be hesitating whether to knock on the door.

In the end, he didn't knock.

I turned off the lights in the room and was almost falling asleep when Elliott's voice rang out from outside.

"Victoria, I know you're sick. I shouldn't have deliberately angered you. I was so wrong!

"No matter what, I promise you that there is nothing between Emily and me anymore. I will fire her and get a new secretary tomorrow. And I will never have anything to do with her again!

"Why don't you open the door and we'll talk?"

Chapter 6

Finally, I opened the door.

Elliott raised his head and saw me. The light in his eyes was rekindled.

"Victoria!"

He pulled me into his arms and hugged me tightly.

It left me stunned for a moment.

That hug made me feel as if I was back six years ago, back to the time when we were in college and just started dating.

Elliott's voice sounded firmly from above my head.

"I'm sorry I took your reservation last time.

"Don't worry. No matter what the cost this time, I will help you get a place and save you!"

Elliott took something out of his pocket and handed it to me.

It was a familiar necklace.

I was stunned. That was the necklace I got from the church when Elliott had a car accident. I asked Elliott to carry it with him every day.

Now he handed the necklace to me again. "Victoria, you will be safe. We won't get divorced. I will definitely arrange for an expert doctor to cure you."

I began to waver.

But I did not agree to Elliott. He and Emily had been entangled for many years. Although I did not find any substantial evidence, I could not believe that they were really innocent.

Until I accidentally heard that Elliott fired Emily with a cold face.

"I asked you to help me with the acting before. All this is your reward."

Elliott gave her a lot of money. "Don't bother me and my wife anymore."

I finally began to believe Elliott.

I also asked myself countless times in my heart, "If he did repent, would I forgive him as if nothing had happened?"

Three days later, Adrian came to urge me again.

"Are you divorced?"

I held my phone in my hand and looked up at Elliott who was busy in the kitchen.

He really seemed different.

In the past, he didn't sympathize with my hard work, never cooked for me, and even most of the time, he thought my efforts were my due.

But now, he was slowly learning how to cook.

Even though the food didn't taste good, and he always burned the food, he was very patient.

Just two days ago, he was still begging for my forgiveness, holding my hand and saying, "Victoria, let's have a child. You are only responsible for giving birth to him, and I will raise him.

"Then, the three of us will live a happy life."

I was moved.

I lowered my head to edit the text message. My rejection message hadn't been sent yet.

In the kitchen, Elliott's cell phone rang.

Less than a minute after the call was answered, a plate fell to the ground and shattered.

I looked up and saw Elliott running out in a panic. "Victoria, I have something to do. Why don't you order some takeout first..."

My eyes fell on his phone screen. He hadn't hung up the call yet.

The note was Emily's name.

I was surprised and asked him, "Didn't you say you broke up with Emily?"

Elliott's face was pale. His eyes dodged. "She is not feeling well. She has no relatives or support in this city. As her former leader, I have to go to the hospital..."

But I didn't believe him.

As I got closer, the girl's voice came clearly from the phone.

"Mr. Wellington, the doctor said the baby was unstable. I'm so scared. Can you come and stay with me now?"

I was desperate.
