Chapter 3
After sleeping for two days, I decided to try working as a waitress in a hotel in town.
The work was simple and wouldn't attract any attention.
The hotel owner interviewed me and, seeing that I was pretty, hired me on the spot.
I had never worked a long-term job before, so this was my first experience. I didn't expect to face discrimination just for working.
"Clare, go to the front. The manager is looking for you," said a coworker, rolling her eyes at me.
When I approached, the manager was panicking.
"You've come at the right time," he said. "There's a difficult customer here. No one wants to serve her. You should go. But don't offend this lady from Capaville. She's an important customer."
I had no choice but to open the door and ask if she needed anything.
The girl opposite me was stunned for a long time.
"Why do you look familiar?"
"You must be mistaken. How could you possibly know someone from a small place like ours? Miss, what can I do for you?"
"Is your last name Ramos?" She stood up and walked around me, inspecting me in my uniform.
"I think you are. Your name is Jocelyn Ramos. Are you from the Turner family in Capaville? I once saw you at a dinner party with Mr. Turner."
"You must have made a mistake. I'm local and have never been to Capaville." I was shocked that someone recognized me and had to pretend not to know her.
"No way. Jocelyn was raised by the Turners. Someone from your small town couldn't have such an aura."
"Miss, the manager is calling me. If you don't have any instructions, I'll leave."
She waved her hand and let me go without making things difficult.
Outside the door, I confronted the coworker who had lied to me.
"What do you mean? We're colleagues. Why lie to me?"
"You look like a rich kid pretending to experience society. You act like you're one of us but you're trying to steal our jobs. How much does your boss pay you?"
I didn't bother responding and went straight to my manager to resign.
Although I felt it was unlikely, I didn't dare take the risk. If Yorick found me, all my efforts would be wasted.
Chapter 4
After hiding for a few days, I realized no one was looking for me.
Feeling relieved, I went to a nearby city to find a job.
I learned a lot in the Turner family because Yorick was happy to teach me various skills.
I could play golf, ski, race cars, and even drive a speedboat.
But these skills were useless in a small town.
The city offered many more opportunities.
I found a job at the largest local ski resort and also worked as a hotel lobby manager.
The hotel owner, seeing that I was pretty, was happy to let me take care of the rich young men who visited.
One day, a group of wealthy kids came to the ski resort for a vacation, and I was responsible for teaching them how to ski.
They were dazzling, full of nobility, clearly from big cities. Many girls came over to ask for their number during breaks.
"It's great to be young."
"You talk like you're very old," said the most eye-catching one among them. He had short, neat hair and an extraordinary demeanor, dressed in professional equipment, unlike the amateur skiers renting gear.
It was clear they were from a wealthy or noble family, so I decided to keep my distance.
The hotel owner hosted a banquet in the evening and insisted that I join. There were several beautiful female hotel staff present.
Unlike these girls who had other intentions, I wore the simplest clothes and sat at the corner of the banquet.
During the meal, the boss urged the girls to toast, and everyone was enthusiastic.
After all, it was an opportunity to meet various big shots. These guys were young, handsome, and from rich families. Which girl wouldn't like them?
One girl even danced, earning applause from the young men.
When it was my turn to toast, I stood up and said, "I'm sorry, I don't drink, so I'll use juice to toast all my friends who have come from afar."
Some rich kids seemed like troublemakers. Seeing that I didn't drink, one immediately spoke up.
"Why are you pretending to be so noble?" He came over and pulled at me.
In the struggle, my collar was pulled down.
"That's enough." The boy who had talked to me earlier in the day stepped in, separating us.
Seeing who it was, they immediately stopped.
"Mr. Hayes, do you like her? Don't worry, we won't interfere."
"Hey, what's that on the back of her neck?"
Chapter 5
I suddenly remembered the tattoo on the back of my neck and quickly tightened my collar to cover it.
The others noticed and looked surprised. The man leading the group, referred to as Mr. Hayes, frowned.
"Mr. Hayes, that golden phoenix tattoo—could it be the one I think it is?"
Yorick was great in many ways, except he had a peculiar preference. He insisted on tattooing a golden phoenix on the back of my neck. I always believed it marked Turner family's servants.
I was upset about it for a long time. I usually kept my collar tight to cover it, but it accidentally showed up just now.
"Are you the person Yorick has been searching for?" Mr. Hayes asked.
"No, I don't know the person you're talking about," I retorted instinctively.
"I heard that the girl was raised in the Turner family since childhood. She's very mysterious. We found her here today. Does that mean he deserted her. Maybe you can follow us."
The man called Mr. Hayes stopped him immediately.
"Philip, you bastard. Are you interested in this girl? Why are you stopping us?"
"I brought you out here, and I don't want you to get into trouble. The Turner family doesn't give this golden mark to just anyone. Everyone in the circle knows this girl is special to Yorick. Don't do anything stupid."
Philip Hayes, the young master of the Hayes family, had appeared here.
