Chapter 3
My mother immediately took off her apron and said she was going to the market to buy food and making something delicious tonight.
Seeing them so happy, my eyes became wet.
In my previous life, I was so busy with work and family that I could only go back to my parents' home a few times a year. I almost forgot that my parents were the people who loved me the most in the world.
I secretly made up my mind that after divorcing David, I would take time to take my parents on a trip to other places and spend more time with them.
In the afternoon, David called me many times and I didn't answer.
Unexpectedly, just after dinner, he came to the door with many gifts, such as cigarettes and alcohol.
My dad was surprised, "David, Mandy said you are on a business trip, aren't you?"
David was startled at first, then explained, "I came back early, so I come to see you."
"Have you eaten yet?"
"Not yet."
My parents didn't think much about it and invited him into the house. My mom even said there were some food in the refrigerator that he could just heat up and eat.
David was just about to thank her when I picked up my bag, put on my shoes and was about to leave.
"Dad, Mom, I'm going home."
"Ah? David just got here. Just leave after he eats, okay?"
"I just go back alone and don't wait for him."
After I went downstairs, David quickly caught up with me and stopped me with his arms open.
"Mandy, have you had enough of throwing a tantrum?"
"I throw a tantrum?" I said coldly, "David, are you serious? Who is throwing a tantrum?"
David frowned, as if trying to suppress his anger, "What's wrong with you? You used to be very reasonable and always agreed with me. Why are you so rude and unreasonable now?"
I raised my head and looked at him expressionlessly.
"It's just because I figured it out.
"I used to be a fool. I only thought about our family and you, but never thought about myself.
"I thought you take care of Ella out of sympathy and kindness. Humph, I was so naive.
"David, in fact, you have always loved her deeply in your heart, and it has never changed.
"In your eyes, I am just a substitute.
"No, in fact, I am even just a tool.
"I don't want to live like this any longer.
"Since you care about Ella so much, why don't you marry her? That way you can openly take care of her day and night!
"And I will be also free. I won't have to play gooseberry anymore. Isn't that good?"
David was speechless, because every word I said hit the nail on the head, as if a sharp knife was cutting him repeatedly and making him bleed.
After a long silence, David said, "I'll give you a few days to think about the divorce, because you're too excited right now. When you calm down, we can talk about it."
I said, "There's nothing to talk about. Divorce is a done deal, and no one can change my decision."
David said, "Mandy, you know? You make me feel very strange!"
"But you make me feel endless disgust!" I looked at him coldly, "To be honest, I'm actually very grateful to you now."
David was stunned, "For what?"
"Because you didn't touch me during our five-year marriage. If I had a child with you, it would be a problem."
Chapter 4
"You..."
"David, let's part ways amicably. After the divorce, we can pursue our own happiness. That's good." I said meaningfully, "Don't forget, Ella is still waiting for you to take care of her. You two are a good match."
I refrained from saying the following sentence, "Never break up so you don't harm others."
David's expression changed several times, but he finally put his hands down.
"Well, since you want a divorce, I agree for your happiness."
"You are not for my happiness, but for ours."
I reached out to stop a taxi, and David was stunned, "Aren't you going home in my car?"
"No, thanks. Only Ella deserves to ride in your car, and I don't."
After getting in the taxi, I originally planned to find a hotel to stay in by myself.
But after I thought about it, I decided to go home and stay for one night, then pack up and leave early the next morning.
David was driving behind, and I didn't bother to look back at him.
The taxi driver noticed something was wrong and asked, "Miss, there seems to be a car following us. Is that okay?"
I said, "It's okay. It is my husband."
The taxi driver smiled and said that he got it and we must have had an argument.
Then he continued saying that young people were prone to conflicts, and after ten or eight years, when we became an old couple, there wouldn't be so many problems.
"Miss, your husband has been driving behind, which means he cares about you very much. Don't be angry with him anymore and forgive him. It's not easy for married men."
After hearing that, I felt like laughing but couldn't.
...
When I got home, I took out my suitcase and packed my clothes.
I didn't take any of the gold and diamond jewelry that David gave me when we got married. I just left them all on the dressing table.
When I was about to turn off the lights and go to bed, there was a knock on the door.
I opened the door and saw David standing outside topless, wearing only his pajama trousers and holding a bottle of red wine in his hand.
"What's up?"
"We are married, so it's better for us to sleep together." David shook the red wine, "This is the good wine that Ella brought back from abroad. How about a drink?"
He stretched out his other hand and tried to hold my waist.
I slapped his hand away and took a step back, "David, what do you mean?"
"Mandy, didn't you complain to my parents that you slept alone for so many years?" David showed a meaningful smile on his face, "Tonight, I will make it up to you."
I said coldly, "I don't need it. Stay away from me!"
"We are married. Isn't it normal for us to have sex?" David said arrogantly, "Which law stipulates that a husband cannot sleep with his wife?"
I looked at him deeply and said, "David, don't think I don't know what you are up to. Your real purpose is to maintain the status quo and not want to divorce me.
"As long as we are not divorced, you will still be a good son to your parents, a model husband in the eyes of our relatives and friends, and a good man envied by our neighbors.
"Then I will continue to be your tool, and you can continue to take care of Ella.
"Am I right?"
The smile on David's face froze instantly.
Being exposed, he became furious and grabbed my hand.
