Chapter 4
When the paramedics finally arrived, I was relieved and finally fell unconscious. When I opened my eyes next, a nurse I did not know immediately helped me sit up. "Don Russo has returned to the villa due to the assassination attempt, but he has given special orders for you to stay here without worry to recuperate, Mrs. Villani. He'll be back to visit you once he has settled his affairs."
I nodded.
The assassination of Frank had been treated with utmost importance in my past life, and Victor had been rewarded after a thorough investigation had been completed. Frank had suffered from shock, and I should consider myself lucky that he could even remember me.
I relaxed and was about to say something when I heard hurried footsteps coming to my room. Before I could turn to look, a pair of coarse hands grabbed me by the jaw. It was Victor, and he was staring darkly at me.
"How dare you have Leia killed behind my back?! Do you know how heartbroken Aurora was when she saw Leia's body? You're a vile woman, Isabella! How blind I was back then to have married you!"
My cheeks burned from the pain of the slap he dealt me.
"Really? If you regret marrying me, let's just get a divorce!" I wiped away my tears as I finally said the words I had been holding back all this time. I had planned to wait until Frank's orders became official before leaving Victor, but I could not wait any longer.
The hate and grievance I had endured in my past life came flooding back, and I felt as if I was wrapped in a cocoon of those negative feelings. I could not breathe nor escape from being trapped inside.
Victor, whose attitude had been arrogant throughout, was taken aback by my words. He frowned and started scrutinizing me. While I was wondering what he was thinking, Aurora appeared.
Whatever happened yesterday did not seem to affect Aurora at all. She still looked as beautiful as ever, and the moment she appeared, Victor only had eyes for her. He pulled Aurora gently into his arms, and the hand he used to slap me hard was now caressing her face tenderly. "What are you doing here? Aren't you still feeling weak?"
Aurora shook her head. "I had to come here because I was worried about you. I didn't expect you to be arguing with Isabella because of me. I really don't want to hurt you and Isabella, Victor. Maybe we should break up, and all your troubles will be resolved."
She started crying as she spoke, her tears falling onto Victor. This only made Victor's heart ache as he tried to cajole her in a fluster.
"Don't be silly. You know that you're the only woman I love. I only pity her because she's pregnant with my baby. How can a woman as vile as her bring up my child? I'll divorce her once she gives birth and let you have the baby. I want to marry you after that and make you my legitimate wife!"

I struggled to look up at them. "Legitimate wife? Baby? How can you be so heartless, Victor? Our baby is dead, you're the one who killed him!" I was gasping as I accused Victor of his crime hysterically.
Victor frowned impatiently. "What are you talking about? Isn't it enough that you killed Leia? How can you wish that on your child now? You're gone mad, Isabella!"
I pressed my lips with disappointment and roared at him, "How dare you even mention our baby? What right do you have to do that? Do you know that he was fully formed? But you didn't even give him the chance to come to this world because of your selfishness! Aren't you afraid our baby will come looking for you for revenge in the middle of the night, Victor?"
Victor was taken aback as he released Aurora from his arms, his face filled with disbelief. He came up to me. "How did he… Aren't you already eight months pregnant?"
I sneered and pulled the covers off me to reveal my flat belly. I had lost the baby. When the nurse took the baby out of my belly, he was already purple all over. Victor's hands trembled as he reached out for my belly, but that was when Aurora suddenly exclaimed.
"Victor, I can't hide this from you any longer. I left this time because I saw Isabella cheating on you with her gigolo during the day. She lost the baby while they were busy fooling around with each other. Isabella would kill me if I didn't make a run for it.
"Think about it, Victor. Why did Leia die? Who could be important enough for Isabella to protect to the point of taking another life? She planned to blame you for the baby's death because she lost him long ago and make you feel guilty about it!"
Aurora's words were like an explosion to Victor's ears. He took a step back, as if he had suddenly seen the truth. "Aurora is right. You have been refusing to let me touch you since you got pregnant, and it's because all you care about is that side piece of yours!"
I laughed angrily at how Victor was convincing himself of this 'truth'.
"Do you remember what day this is? I lost the baby because I took a bullet for Don Russo. Where were you then? You were supposed to be protecting him, but where did you go? If you hadn't gone to see Aurora, our baby wouldn't have died!"
I wiped away my tears in agitation. "Do you know that our son could almost be born peacefully?"
However, Victor did not believe anything I said. There was murder in his eyes as he pulled out his handgun and pressed it to my forehead. "Don Russo? It's that gigolo of yours that caused the baby's death. How dare a filthy couple like you do something so disgusting in bright daylight? Do you think I'm dead?"
"Tell me where that son of a bitch is, or I'll sell you to the whorehouse! I'd like to see how stubborn you are then! As for that dirty bastard, I'll kill him and tear his corpse apart!"
Warm blood dripped from my wound, but I was chilled to the core as the cold muzzle pressed onto my forehead. That was when heavy footsteps could be heard outside the door. "Is that so, Victor? I'm the 'dirty bastard' you're talking about. Are you really planning to tear my corpse apart?"
