Chapter 3

Adelaide shouted, “This is my mom not yours. Luciana, your classmates say you're a wild seed. Who gave you permission to call her your mom?”

Seeing Luciana fall to the ground and crying loudly, I was instantly anxious. I helped my daughter up. I then stare coldly at Adelaide.

“Apologize to my daughter right now!”

Isabella tightened her brows and said unhappily, “Reginald, why are you being so mean to a little kid?”

She held Adelaide in her arms without saying a word. She then stared at me sharply.

“I told you in advance last night that Adelaide doesn't stand to see people calling me mom, Reginald. She's just aggravated and angry. By the way, it's not like she pushed Luciana on purpose, okay?”

I stood firm. I was still insisting.

“Did she do it on purpose? Didn't you see it just now, Reginald?”

“Isabella, she just personally called Luciana a wild seed. You must tell her, is Luciana really a wild seed?”

Isabella hesitated for a few moments. But she still softly coaxed Adelaide without any intention of apologizing.

On the other side, Christopher rolled his eyes. He stepped forward to Luciana.

He then apologized with a smile. “Mr. Reginald, I'm really sorry. My daughter, Adelaide, grew up abroad. It makes her personality easy to anger. She also doesn’t like to share anything with others. She just said what she wanted to say. Please, don't take it to heart.”

The little girl in his arms had an even more smug expression. I really hated both of them. They ruined my daughter's life.

“I didn't say anything wrong, Dad. The classmates have all said that Luciana is a wild seed. She's the one who robbed my mom!”

Adelaide still believed her statement. Meanwhile, I clenched my fists and stared coldly at Isabella.

Before she said that she had a cleanliness fetish called mysophobia, Luciana and I endured it. We indulged her blindly.

Unfortunately, she was willing to use overtime as an excuse to have an affair with other men outside. I also turned a blind eye when I found out about this. But now, I couldn't tolerate others calling my daughter a wild seed.

I asked loud to her, “Isabella, I'll ask you again. Is Luciana…?”

A point of displeasure flashed across Isabella's face, but she sneered and said, “How did she become my daughter, Reginald? Aren't you stupid? Alright, today is the day Adelaide comes to the house to play, okay? Please, don't make everyone unhappy right now.”

Christopher and his daughter were happy on the side. They knew that Isabelle would choose them over her daughter.

Isabella picked up Adelaide with heartache. “I will buy you new dolls, okay?”

Adelaide replied, “I want Elsa's pretty dress, Mom.”

“Okay, we will buy it later.”

I saw Isabella's face full of love for Adelaide at this moment. Looking at her back, I felt a chill in my heart. It made me want to do something. I finally said the words that I had not been able to say even after weighing them again and again.

“Isabella, let's divorce!”

Isabella's footsteps lurched after hearing my words. She coldly turned back.

“Reginald, do you think this is interesting? If you think this can threaten me, then it's fine as you wish.”

After saying that, she left without looking back.

I saw a smile with a smirk flashed across the corner of Christopher's eyes. But he quickly suppressed it and turned back to apologize to me.

“I'm really sorry, Reginald. Isabella and I are innocent. She is the most affectionate person. I know she just cares more about me than you. It happens because she feels sorry for my heartbreak and my early divorce. You know that my only child does not have a mother. She is only to be more concerned about us for a while. I hope you do not take it to heart. Please, don’t be unhappy because of this.”

Before they left us, Christopher added my contact information. He said to compensate Luciana for that painting.

Isabella said, “Christopher, come quickly.”

Isabella stood outside not far away. She held Adelaide’s hands and called him softly.

Christopher replied, “I’m coming!”

Christopher chased after them with a joyful smile on his face. Before they could go far, the sound of their conversation clearly reached my ears.

“Isabella, you are such a fool. Mr. Reginald said that the divorce was just a word of anger. How could you agree to it?”

Isabella replied sarcastically, “I know he used all means to beg for this marriage. So, how could he possibly give up a divorce? I think he was so mean to our Adelaide. It was just a small punishment for him. It won't be long before he begs me to come back. Believe my words, Christopher.”

I couldn't help but sneer. I tried to calm down and take new steps in my future life without Isabella.

Chapter 4

I said in my heart, ‘Isabella, people will change. I swear to you. I am Reginald, who used to risk my life for your love and will hate you now. Now for the sake of my daughter, I will choose our life to leave you completely.’

My daughter, Luciana, hid in her room. She cried non-stop.

“Dad, my classmates say that my mom is Adelaide's mom, but I didn't compete with her for mom, Dad.”

Later, she fell asleep holding a picture of her mom, Isabella. Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep at night.

I opened my cell phone. Then I saw that Christopher had updated a photo on his social media account. I read his caption carefully.

His caption: [Adelaide finally has the missing mother's love. What belongs to us, no one can take away!]

The text was immediately followed by a picture of the three of them. They hugged each other and smiled at the camera. They were like a family of three. I casually clicked a like at that moment. Suddenly a message popped up on my cell phone. It was a message from Christopher.

Christopher sent a video to me. I opened and suddenly saw Isabella’s beautiful face. It was the photo when she just returned to Liechtenstein.

I remember someone asked her, “Isabella, give us your TMI. What is the happiest thing in your life?”

She then gave the answer carelessly that she put Adelaide to sleep and then pulled Christopher into the bathroom before she went abroad last week.

Paired with the softness in the bottom of her eyes and the uproar coming from around her. My hands and feet were cold.

Christopher then shared a note on his social media Instagram.

[Since we are having a child, we can't live in the world of two. We can only wait for Adelaide to fall asleep. Then quietly touch this and that.]

I was lost in thought when Christopher sent his note to me. He then sent a message to me.

Christopher: [I'm really sorry, Reginald. I just clicked the wrong button and actually sent it to you by mistake. When I realized that I couldn't withdraw it anymore. But to be honest, you should also know how Isabella feels, right?]

[In the beginning, it was because you used despicable means to force me to marry Isabella and become her husband. But you have to know that in these three years abroad, she has always accompanied my daughter, Adelaide Ainsworth.]

I was really angry at this moment. But Christopher still sent another message to me.

Christopher: [Although the child is not her own, Isabella is more thoughtful and considerate than Adelaide’s biological mother, Reginald. Even if we break up, she still can't let go of me. It won't be long before we get back together. Mr. Reginald, I know that your family is rich. I feel that you don't need Isabella anymore, right? So, I advise you not to ask for trouble and take the initiative to withdraw your decisions about your divorce.]

After that, he sent another picture to me. It was a picture of Adelaide.

Adelaide smiled brightly in the middle of Isabella and Christopher. Meanwhile, her father and Isabella kissed her cheeks at the same time. This photo really showed them as a happy family.

I smiled and replied to him, “Okay.”

Then I called my mom's number. “Mom, I've made up my mind. I'll take Luciana and settle abroad. I'll leave in a few days.”

My mom was surprised at that moment. She then replied, “Are you sure, my son? But I've heard that Isabella has returned to Liechtenstein. I know it's not easy for your family to reunite. Does she agree?”

I smiled ruefully and bitterly. My mom still believed in her mind.

“She will beg for it, Reginald.”

I just ended the call after hearing my mom's words. I didn't insist on waiting for Isabella to come back before going to bed like I did in the past.

It was already two o'clock in the morning when Isabella came back home. She had just entered and frowned when she saw the darkened room.

She knew I usually keep the light on for her every time, but this time was an exception. Not only this time, but after that I also no longer bother her again.

For three whole days, I didn’t say a single word to Isabella.  Seemingly sensing that something was wrong, Isabella came back. She brought a gift box.

“Reginald, this is for you.”

A trace of apology flashed across her face. “I know Adelaide was unintelligent and so ignorant a few days ago. I apologize to you and Luciana on her behalf.”

As she spoke, she opened the gift box. There was an outdated watch quietly. She then took it out and looked at me.

“I'll help you put it on, Reginald.”

I didn't move to avoid it. “No need to bother, Isabella.”

Unfortunately, I had seen that watch before. I saw it on Christopher's Instagram. It was a model that he disliked as outdated and old. He even joked that he didn’t want to throw it away.

Chapter 5

I expressionlessly crossed over to Isabella. I choose to give Luciana a hug. Then I helped her to change her clothes and drove out the door.

Isabella glanced at me. She was stunned. Isabella then stopped on me for a long time.

“You are a little different today, Reginald. Where are you going? I'll drive you.”

I felt Isabella seemed particularly attentive today. The rearview mirror reflected my neat casual suit. In the past, I only wore gentle home clothes in front of her.

But in the three years since she got away, I opened the company. It made me attend social events. I also could repair the water pipes by myself. It was not that I couldn't live without her.

I answered her, “No need, Isabella. I should be more skillful at driving than you.”

When I went out today, I brought Luciana to cancel my domestic identity. Three hours later, we came out after cancelling our identity documents. Then we saw Isabella's car parked in front of the entrance. Her brows furrowed as she stared at me.

Isabella asked me, “Reginald, what are you doing here with your daughter?”

She came over and saw me go in with Luciana in my arms. She only came out three hours later. For some reason, she was uneasy as if her heart was being pulled.

“Nothing, Isabella. The ID card expired, so I came to get a new one. Aren't you busy today? I heard that Christopher has been looking for a job recently. I think he should need you right now, Isabella.”

Isabella stared at me closely. Her expression was obscure.

After a long time, she laughed coldly. “Reginald, you're a very good man. It's the first time I've seen someone push his wife out on his own. Since you said so, I'll do as you wish.”

The car door was slammed heavily. Isabella's car disappeared in an instant. I really didn't understand the reason why she got angry when I fulfilled her wish. I learned this from Isabella’s assistant, Albert Weasley.

“Sir, Mrs. Isabella always deliberately set aside a day to accompany you and the child, how did you make her angry and leave?”

“Now she got herself drunk and ran off to see Christopher and his daughter again, Mr. Reginald.”

The assistant had always thought that Isabella and I were a good match and was determined to bring us together.

But now, I smiled at Albert. “Thank you, Albert. But let her go.”

After all, there were still three more days before my daughter and I left. Luciana and I would live together without Isabella soon.

But how could I have not expected that on the day I finished helping my daughter with her transfer school to another school, she was pushed into the water by Adelaide and suffered an emergency?

I brought Luciana to the hospital to save her. However, the hospital told me that Isabella had transferred all the medical resources in the city to treat Adelaide’s allergies.

Looking at Luciana's face, I desperately called Isabella's phone. I begged her to save our daughter, Luciana.

Christopher's sobbing voice came from the other end of the phone. Isabella sounded anxious but laughed out grimly.

“Reginald, why are you pretending to be pitiful again? Luciana is fine. How could anything happen to her? Please tell me. The day I accompanied you guys, you were the one who kicked me out of the house, Reginald. Adelaide has a serious allergy right now. What tricks are you going to play to get jealous?”

The taste of blood came from my throat. I was about to explain when a beep ringtone came from the phone. I was overwhelmed by a wave of despair.

I thought Luciana would cry, but I didn't expect her to suck in oxygen. She then looked at me in an unusually calm manner.

“Dad, my mom really doesn't want me this time, right?”

She smiled sensibly. My daughter then weakly wiped away my tears.

“Don't cry, Dad. I don't want her either.”

In the end, I still called my mom and used her connections to quickly transfer a special doctor from the next city.

During the last few days of hospitalization, Isabella did not appear from beginning to end. The TV station was also broadcasting the story of Isabella's overbearing efforts to mobilize the city's medical resources in order to save people's lives. I coldly looked at Isabella’s face full of worry on the screen.

I said in my heart, ‘Isabella since you love them so much, my daughter and I will help you.’

The day Luciana was discharged from the hospital, I cancelled the domestic identity. I also deleted Isabella's contact information from my phone. I broke the cell phone card. I then left the city with my lovely daughter, Luciana.
