Chapter 4

The bedroom door behind me was gently pushed open, and Daniel came over with a basin of water and squatted by the bed, saying, "Diana, get up and soak your feet. You've been working hard lately."

I pulled the quilt over my head, isolating Daniel's voice outside.

But he came closer, pulled the quilt off me, and continued in a softer tone, "Okay, Diana, stop throwing a tantrum."

"I apologize for lying to you. Can you stop mentioning divorce all the time?

"It's not easy for us to come this far. Grandma also hopes to see us live a happy life, right?"

Daniel said, trying to pull me up from the bed.

I turned away from Daniel's goodwill with a cold face and sat up from the bed, saying,

"Don't mention Grandma in front of me."

"Daniel, you are the least qualified person to mention Grandma."

Daniel's face immediately darkened and he spoke in an extremely impatient tone, "Diana, I have apologized and admitted my mistake. What else do you want from me?"

"Do I need to kneel down and beg for your forgiveness?"

"I am a man, not your servant. Do you have to be so aggressive over this?"

"Besides, Julia had discussed with me about her birthday before she returned. I can't just break my promise."

I tugged at the corner of my mouth and said, "You also know that you are a man."

"Nothing happens for no reason. As a man, Daniel, if you don't give Julia a chance, will she do that?"

After speaking, I got up from the bed and turned to leave the bedroom.

Daniel stopped me the moment I turned the doorknob. He raised his voice, "Diana, it's so late. Do you want me to invite Grandma to persuade us to reconcile again?"

Many times in the past, Grandma was the one who mediated between us during our cold wars.

But this time, Grandma was no longer here.

The gulf between Daniel and I could never be filled in this lifetime.

I decisively left the bedroom and coldly said, "As you wish."

The moment the door closed, I heard Daniel in the bedroom knock over the basin by the bedside...

Early the next morning, someone knocked on the door.

Coming out of the guest room, I happened to see Julia standing in the middle of the living room, helping Daniel with his tie.

They were so intimate that they looked like a newlywed couple, while I was just a mistress who couldn't show up.

They weren't just like this today.

We had been married for many years, except for Barber's family and my Grandma, in fact, no one knew that I was Daniel's wife, and Daniel also tacitly agreed not to make it public.

To be honest, anyone would feel uncomfortable.

But now, looking at the sweet scene between the two of them, I didn't have any emotional ups and downs.

When Julia saw me, she looked awkward and she instinctively explained, "Diana, please don't misunderstand."

"Daniel left in a hurry last night and forgot to take his tie."

Seeing that I didn't say anything, Daniel asked me to go to the restaurant for breakfast, saying that it was specially brought by Julia.

Looking at the soup for two on the table, I said coldly, "No need."

"Daniel, did Diana misunderstand?"

Julia looked at Daniel with innocence, as if she had really done something wrong, and continued speaking, "Diana, please don't misunderstand."

"When I was in school, I also helped Daniel tie his tie. It was just a casual thing. I wanted you to sleep a little longer, so I didn't bother you to get up."

As soon as the word 'bother' was mentioned, Julia treated herself as the hostess.

But Daniel pretended not to understand, only that there was a fleeting dodge in his eyes as he looked at me. However, he quickly returned to normal and pretended that nothing had happened.

I impatiently nodded and went into the bathroom to wash up.

Behind me, Daniel brought Julia to the dining room and spoke gently, "She's always so weird and unpredictable."

"Julia, leave her alone. Let's have breakfast."

Chapter 5

After I washed up, the two of them had already finished breakfast, leaving a table of mess.

Julia wiped her mouth and smiled at me, with a hint of pride in her eyes, saying, "Diana, Daniel told me that you are considering divorce because of what happened on my birthday."

"I really didn't expect that a birthday would cause so many misunderstandings."

"Diana, I apologize. Don't blame Daniel. It was me who insisted on him celebrating my birthday."

"Don't divorce Daniel either. I heard that it hasn't been easy for you two to come this far, so don't separate because of this small matter."

Julia said sincerely and also apologized to me. Daniel couldn't help but feel sorry for her when he heard it.

I didn't want to watch Julia's drama, so I picked up my bag and went to work.

I heard Daniel comfort her when I closed the door.

"Forget it. She will figure it out in a few days."

But Daniel didn't know that I would never be able to figure it out this time.

After that day, whenever I mentioned divorce, Daniel either pretended not to hear or ignored me with a cold face.

I met Daniel again at the annual party of the company.

At that time, I was being harassed by the supervisor because I had pushed back the project due to rushing back home to see Grandma.

The supervisor was a man, and it was well-known that he secretly loved Julia.

I didn't know where he heard that I had a conflict with Julia, so he took the opportunity of this project to scold me.

"Diana, do you think you are the boss of the company?"

"Do you know how much money the company lost because of this project? How could you push it back so easily?"

"You can't even repay the debt after selling yourself! How can you get into the Barber Group? Do you think you are somebody?"

I tried to explain to the supervisor, "I'm sorry, supervisor. Something happened to my grandma at home, so I had no choice but to postpone the project."

"Don't worry, I will follow up on this project later."

The supervisor wouldn't listen to my explanation and kept scolding me based on the pretext of losses.

"It's not that easy. Do you think you can definitely get it back if you say so?"

"Who do you think the client is? Will he listen to you? Or did you sleep with the client and get the project back?"

The supervisor intentionally raised the volume of the second half of the sentence, so that the attention of colleagues in the room was all focused on me.

There were more and more discussions around.

"Diana looks quite righteous. I didn't expect her private life to be a mess."

"I heard the company lost millions. Without losing something, how could she possibly compensate?"

"Tsk tsk tsk, I didn't expect Diana to be such a person."

Upon hearing this, I couldn't bear it anymore.

I stood up and glanced coldly at the supervisor, saying, "I thought that those who could enter Barber's Group would at least have some basic qualities as a person."

"Now it seems that some things are not human beings at all."

The supervisor who was scolded by me instantly blushed. He pointed at my face and raised his voice, saying, "Diana! Who are you cursing?!"

"Insulting superiors will result in a deduction of salary! Your won’t get your year-end bonus, and I will inform the host to cancel the process of you receiving the year-end bonus."

I sneered and left with my bag.

"Is that all you can do? You'd better have the HR fire me."

The supervisor caught up angrily and said, "Good, you are bold. Do you think I wouldn't dare?"

I ignored the people behind me and turned to leave the venue of the annual party.

The supervisor's follower, however, pulled me back, causing my abdomen to hit the dining table hard.

A huge sense of pain swept through my whole body, and I felt like I could hardly catch my breath for a moment.

Just then, Daniel walked out of the private room with Julia and coldly glanced at me.

"What are you doing? This is the annual party. Can you not do anything to embarrass me?"

Chapter 6

Upon seeing Daniel, the supervisor immediately put on a flattering smile.

"Hello, Mr. Barber. Nothing happened. We are talking about Diana's project, which was postponed last time. The client wants to stop the cooperation."

"I just wanted Diana to negotiate with the client again, but she not only refused but also threatened to quit."

"My colleagues and I are trying to persuade her."

Hearing the supervisor's explanation, his followers echoed one after another.

"That's right! Mr. Barber, you don't know, Diana almost attacked the supervisor just now."

"Yes, I've never seen such an unreasonable employee."

Daniel looked at me with a hint of disdain in his eyes, and he said coldly, "You should make up for your mistakes."

"Diana, who taught you to let the company clean up your mess?"

Hearing this, Julia, who was standing aside, showed a gentle and generous smile, took Daniel's arm, and softly said, "Daniel, is there any misunderstanding?"

"There's no need to make such a big fuss about it. We just need to clear up the misunderstanding, right, Diana?"

"There's no misunderstanding. I think she's just used to being sarcastic and acting like she owns the company."

"Diana, let me tell you, this is not your home and we won't let you do whatever you want."

Daniel kept scolding me and didn't even give me a chance to explain.

He denied all my efforts in public.

I covered my abdomen, enduring the piercing pain, and said word by word, "I resign."

Daniel frowned and said, "What did you say?"

Julia, who was standing to the side, took the opportunity to push me away and pretended to gently persuade me, "Well, it's no big deal. There's no need to make a fuss and quit... Oh my!"

Before I could react, Julia grabbed my hand and threw herself out. The next second, she was lying on the ground.

Tears welled up in the corners of Julia's eyes as she looked at me with a pained expression and said, "Diana, even if you don't like me, you don't have to push me down. I was just trying to mediate between you..."

Julia was moving too fast just now, and it looked like I was pushing down.

Daniel immediately squatted beside Julia, carefully checking her ankle, and asked with concern, "Julia, are you okay? Did you hurt your foot?"

At the same time, the onlookers started talking again, "Mr. Barber, I told you Diana is a bad person!"

"That's right. We all saw it was Diana who pushed Miss Clark."

I didn't say anything, just watched Daniel's face turn dark.

The next second, he turned to glare at me, "Apologize to Julia in three seconds!"

I glanced at Julia, who was smirking at me on the ground, and turned away with a cold face.

I felt my eyes hurting even if I looked at her for one more second, let alone bowing my head to apologize.

It was impossible for me to apologize in this lifetime!

But as soon as I took a step forward, someone grabbed my bag and pulled me back.

The supervisor gave a signal to his subordinates, and they all surrounded me in the center, continuing, "Do you want to run after hitting someone?"

"If you don't pay for Miss Clark's medical examination, don't even think about leaving the venue today!"

More and more people gathered at the scene, and in a blink of an eye, I saw Daniel's younger sister, Lily Barber, also arrive.

Like most of the Barber family, she also thought that I was not worthy of the Barber family.

So from the first day I was with Daniel, she couldn't stand me and secretly tried to trip me up.

When she heard that her childhood friend Julia was pushed down by me, she kicked me in the abdomen without any reason, saying, "How dare you bully Julia! I will kick you to death!"

Lily was wearing high heels at the party.

The heel firmly kicked my abdomen through the white skirt. I was in so much pain that my vision went black and I felt nauseous.

In the chaos, several subordinates of the supervisor also punched and kicked me.

Until I felt a warm liquid flowing between my legs, the aggressive attacks stopped.

"Oh my god, so much blood!"
