Chapter 3
I was lying in the ambulance.
My vision started to blur again.
I guessed the blood in my body would stop flowing soon.
The medical staff treated me, and the bleeding finally stopped.
However, the doctor still asked me to stay in the hospital for observation for some time.
Unfortunately, I ran into Robert just after I came out of the doctor's office.
When he saw me, he was stunned for a moment.
For a moment, I was worried that he would come over and notice something was wrong with me.
But soon I realized that my thoughts were unnecessary.
A woman rushed over and put her hands affectionately hugged Robert's neck, saying, "Robert, the doctor said that I just have a cold. You don't have to worry about me so much."
Winnie, who Robert really loved, saved him back then.
She appeared after I got married to Robert.
There was a wound on her arm that was similar to Robert's.
Robert looked shocked at that time. His eyes kept moving between me and Winnie, and finally, he looked at me coldly.
I felt pain as I walked past them towards the elevator.
Robert's voice suddenly sounded, "Even if it's just a cold, you can't take it lightly. If it gets worse, you'll cry again."
I suddenly remembered the year when my parents passed away.
I fell seriously ill due to the death of my parents and the schemes of my relatives.
At that time, Robert always took care of me. He went to the company during the day and stayed with me in the hospital at night.
I was worried that he was too tired, so I insisted on leaving the hospital.
Because of my recurring high fever, I cried and asked him to hold me.
Now the person standing next to him and acting coquettishly had changed.
He once promised to only care for me, but he didn't keep his promise.
I wanted to cry.
I suppressed it and pressed the elevator button.
Behind me, Winnie glanced at me and asked in a low voice, "Who is that person? She looks like Cathy. Could it be that Cathy is also sick?"
Robert said coldly, "I don't know her. That woman is not worth your worry."
My heart felt like it was pricked by a needle.
It turned out that I was so insignificant in his eyes.
When I entered the elevator, I saw Edward.
He handed me a tissue.
Only then did I realize that my face was covered with tears.
I turned my body sideways, raised my hand to wipe my face fiercely with my sleeve, and said coldly, "No need."
The elevator door slowly closed, and through the gap in the door, I saw Robert and Winnie walking over.
I quickly went to turn off the elevator because I didn't want to be in the same space with them.
Edward glanced out through the crack in the door, frowned, and asked, "What on earth happened between you and him?"
I looked up at him instantly and said, "Aren't you very clear of what happened?"
Edward and I were classmates and he pursued me when we were in college.
I rejected it quickly and told him that I had a fiancé.
He did give up at that time, but after Winnie appeared, he also showed up at a party and told those people that I seduced countless men including him.
Most of those people were business partners of Robert, and the rumors were spread quickly.
They also got a lot of naked photos of my face.
"Cathy, I can explain it to you!"
Edward tried eagerly to grab my arm, but I pushed him away.
"Edward, you are disgusting."
Chapter 4
Edward took a few steps back with a hurt look. The next second, he said in a hoarse voice, "Does he know that you are sick?"
I paused, pretending to be relaxed, and said, "Why should he know? If he knew, he would probably cry and beg me not to die."
Edward looked outside and saw Winnie holding Robert tightly, and was silent for a long time.
I didn't say anything else.
We all knew that this was impossible.
The elevator stopped on the fifth floor, and I stepped out.
Behind me, Edward asked me sadly, "Cathy, you will forgive me, right?"
I looked up at the light.
The person who wronged you knew better than anyone else that you had been wronged.
Seeing that I didn't answer, he continued, "Take good care of yourself, you won't die, you are very strong."
I ignored him and went to my ward.
The money I had wasn't enough to keep me in a better ward, so I could only stay in an ordinary room for four or five people.
Besides, I didn't want to live alone. It would be so sad if no one noticed I had died.
When I entered the ward, it was bustling inside.
There was a girl who was about my age.
Her father was helping her sit up, and her mother was helping her preparing a meal for her.
Suddenly, I remembered my childhood.
Every time I was sick, my parents would stay with me. They would sing for me, comfort me, and feed me.
I lay down on the hospital bed and tried not to disturb them.
But their voices were still much quieter.
Maybe it was because I looked too gloomy, or maybe it was because I came to the hospital alone and looked too pitiful.
I turned my head and looked out the window with a wry smile. I originally thought I would be happier with more people around me.
Now it seemed that even they were affected by me.
Maybe it was because it was winter, the takeaway was already cold when it was delivered.
I ate a little bit to make sure I wouldn’t starve to death, then I collected all the takeout boxes and threw them into the trash can.
The nurse also came over at this time and gave me an IV.
"You're in the hospital alone, so try not to sleep too deeply. If anything happens, press the bell immediately.
"By the way, play with your phone less. What you need most right now is rest."
I smiled and nodded, put my phone on the bedside table, and looked up at my IV bottle.
Since my parents died, my relatives and friends rarely contacted me.
Robert was the only one left in my world. Even my mobile phone only had his number.
And now, Robert and I were divorced, and we would never have any contact again.
Thinking of this, I took my phone and sent him a message.
[Sorry, I slept too deeply this morning. We will go through the procedure at 10 a.m. tomorrow.]
Edward asked me if I had told Robert that I was sick.
I had thought about it seriously.
In fact, I really wanted to see how he would react when he found out that I had a terminal illness.
Would he regret kicking me out so cruelly yesterday?
But I knew that none of this made sense.
When he slapped me in the face, our relationship already ended.
When I was young, my parents were busy with work.
Most of the time, I was alone at home.
Later Robert moved next door to us.
At that time, I was very happy that I finally had a friend of the same age.
At that time, Robert was really good to me.
He would run to my house and watch over me when it thundered.
When I was sick, he would run around anxiously to take care of me.
I remembered the time when I was bullied at school.
It was Robert who took me to school and found those who bullied me.
He was like a superman and saved me.
Later, I always followed him.
Many people said that I was his little follower.
But I didn't mind at all.
At that time, I was nine years old and Robert was eleven years old.
Later, our parents had a car accident and left me and Robert.
At that time, we didn't even have time to feel sad before we started to face the difficulties caused by our relatives.
We supported each other.
Robert became more and more indifferent, but when he met me, he still looked gentle.
Later, we got married naturally.
But on the second day after we got married, he met Winnie.
It was then that I realized that Robert had cared about me and had protected me because he had recognized the wrong person.
Later, Edward appeared.
Rumors about me spread among these people.
Even if I explained, no one believed me.
They still looked at me with contempt and disdain, as if I was dirty.
Robert started not allowing me to go out.
He didn't believe me either and even slapped me...
"Hey, your IV is finished, stop being in a daze."
When I came to my senses, I realized it was the girl in the bed next to me speaking.
She looked at me with some concern in her eyes.
I smiled at her, pressed the bell, and thanked her again.
After the nurse changed the medicine, I looked at my phone and saw a message.
