Chapter 5

They came back.

Clara returned to our little home.

"Why is it so dark?" She murmured.

Because I was already dead, there was no one to leave a little lamp for her anymore.

She searched everywhere in the condo but couldn't find a trace of me.

Impatiently, she took out her phone and wanted to call me.

It had been many days since we last contacted. She scrolled for a long time before finding our chat box.

Looking at the chat history still stuck on the last call, she was stunned. She seldom contacted me during business trips, but I would share a lot of information with her on my own.

But now she couldn't see a single message.

The light from the screen illuminated her face, making her expression look a bit gloomy.

She was about to send me a voice message, but a dialogue box popped up.

Steve asked her out for a meal.

She agreed, and then hurriedly left.

Our home returned to silence.

Steve was waiting for her downstairs. She saw him and ran over.

"Clara, you live in such a place. How did the Chambers family become so shabby?"

When we got married, Clara said she liked a cozy little home, so we chose a regular two-bedroom condo in the city center close to her company.

I personally designed the decoration of our home, pouring my longing for a home into it.

Clara looked at Steve with a complicated expression, "In college, you once said that small-sized houses feel more like home."

Steve hesitated for a moment and immediately said, "I'm sorry. It has been too long and I forgot. I just subconsciously thought you deserved better."

Clara's expression softened a bit.

But I felt a pang of heartache.

I thought that she wanted an ordinary and common little home. Actually it was their wish. I was just a clown.

Chapter 6

In the restaurant, I looked at them indifferently.

Steve proposed to Clara.

He said, "Back then, the Chambers Family forced me to leave and even faked my death to make you give up. Now we are both stronger and can stand up against them.

"I hope we can start over and make up for the regrets of the past five years."

Clara looked at him but didn't say anything. I caught a glimpse of her hand on her lap unconsciously spinning our wedding rings.

Steve spoke again, "Clara, do you remember what day it will be in a few days?"

Clara seemed to recall the past and smiled, "I remember. It's the day you saved me, and also the day we met."

In college, a poor but talented student and a rich girl had an encounter after a heroic rescue.

It was remarkable, and started the youth campus drama.

Seeing her smile, Steve continued, "Clara, I'm not forcing you to make a decision, but I want to walk with you towards the altar of our love on that special day."

Clara agreed and discreetly took off her wedding ring and put it in her bag.

The red mark on the ring finger was still there, and a new ring is worn on it.

She posted on her Instagram: [After ten years, it finally comes to a perfect end.]

As night fell, Steve asked Clara to go back to the hotel with him.

But Clara refused, saying that she wanted to handle the divorce with me properly and be with him in a legitimate way.

Chapter 7

She returned to our home again, but still didn't see me.

This time, she dialed my phone number without hesitation.

'"Why aren't you at home? Where did you go?

"Didn't you want a divorce? What's the matter with you disappearing now?

"I promise you, we will get divorced.

" You have half an hour. Come immediately."

I used to come soon every time she called me, but it was impossible this time.

"Anson has been cremated and may not be able to come, Miss Gates."

Callan answered the phone. His voice was almost devoid of warmth.

"What do you mean?"

Clara couldn't believe what she heard. Her expression was very surprised.

"I said, Anson is dead, Miss Gates. Don't you understand human language?"

Callan couldn't hide his anger.

"Hey, you are Callan, right? I recognize your voice.

"Is this Anson's trick to get my attention? Is he jealous of Steve?"

After Clara recognized Callan's voice, her expression immediately became disdainful.

She knew that it was Callan who forced Steve away back then, so she deeply resented him and naturally didn't believe any words he said.

"Clara, I don't care you believe it or not. Tomorrow is Anson's funeral. You can come and see if it's true or not!"

Callan hung up the phone directly.

Clara looked at the chat box, and bowed her head in silence for a long time.

But then she laughed mockingly and said to herself, "How could Anson die? He was fine before I left. It's just a trick. Aren't the Chambers family good at it?"

She may not have noticed that she wasn't confident at all. She called Steve and told him to come and watch a good show tomorrow.
