Chapter 3
Before my mother died, she left the white hairpin to me.
She said it was the token of love between her and the King.
But the King never loved her. After all, he never doted on me and was so biased towards Laura.
I wear a white hairpin every day, but the King seemed to have no impression of it, showing no interest in it.
The king never looked at me affectionately, but he looked at Laura like a loving father.
That day, after I got away with Laura's trap, I knew she wouldn't let me off easily.
I patiently waited for her to show her true colors again.
That day came quickly, and her methods were clumsy.
I was pushed to the side of the Concubine Smith by passing by palace maids. The Concubine Smith fell at the right time, pulling me down with her.
And the King happened to pass by here.
Laura spoke in a coquettish manner.
"Linda, why did you collide with Concubine Smith? Oh my, Concubine Smith is bleeding! Linda, you must apologize to the King quickly. Since it's your first offense, the King may go easy on you."
Concubine Smith was the King's new favorite. She was three months pregnant. The king had been longing for this child as he was getting older.
I noticed that a piece of cloth was exposed from the side of Concubine Smith's belly. I pulled it out along with the cushion she had stuffed in there.
"Father, I discovered that Concubine Smith was pretending to be pregnant and deceiving you, the King. It is a great offense to the King! So, I set up an ambush and caught Concubine Smith in the act!"
I knelt on the ground. Every word of mine was resounding.
Laura realized that the situation was not good. She quickly changed her words.
"Laura is clever and astute. She saw through Concubine Smith's deception towards you, the King."
"Concubine Smith must love the King so much to commit such a big mistake. Please show mercy, Father."
The king had come to find faults with me after hearing Laura's words. At this moment, he could only remain silent for a moment.
"Reward her."
"Concubine Smith is demoted and confined for one month."
In my previous life, Laura only told me about everything she had done before she died. Fortunately, she revealed the whole truth before she died. Otherwise, I might not have been able to break this deadlock.
Out of the corners of my eyes, I glanced at Laura, who looked at me with dissatisfaction in her eyes.
I made a gesture and said, 'We'll see."
She became even more resentful.
As Father left, she secretly glanced back at me a few times.
I knew that she would make several tricky moves next.
Chapter 4
Unexpectedly, after the Concubine Smith incident, the Queen came to me.
Presumably, Concubine Smith had been too prominent recently and had joined forces with Laura. The Queen couldn't deal with her.
But I was just a little orphan. I wondered how I could help the Queen.
"With your extreme intelligence, you are qualified to join forces with me," said the Queen, who had a thin face. She looked shrewd when she smiled.
I remembered Concubine Smith's ending in my previous life, and it wasn't good.
Although her family was prominent, it had always been feared by the King.
She angered Laura, and she had no descendants.
Laura cried in front of the King and complained about her. Then she was sidelined.
From then on, she had been secluded.
I chatted with the Queen for a long time.
Then the King came to my palace, with Laura and a large group of guards.
He asked me in a reproachful tone where the parrot raised by Laura had gone.
I looked confused, asking, "Shouldn't that be a question for Laura?"
Laura sobbed and tugged at the King's sleeve, saying, "Dotty is usually with me or often comes to play with Linda. But I couldn't find Dotty in the entire palace, so I came to Linda's place to take a look."
The King looked at Laura gently. When he looked at me, he, who had been affectionate, was stern.
The Queen spoke up at this moment, saying, "For the sake of a bird, the King came here during the morning court. It seems that the civil and military officials will be a bit alarmed."
The Queen was implying that the King, for the sake of Laura, even quit the morning court. Laura was the one who disturbed the order of the court.
But the King didn't care about these.
The Queen was disliked by the King in her previous life. It was related to her constant admonitions.
After hearing her words, the King indeed snorted.
"The Queen seems to be leisurely here."
"Search."
With his command, dozens of palace maids and eunuchs were pushed and shoved by the guards.
Then an unfamiliar palace maid was pushed out, holding a dead bird in her arms.
I smiled even more brightly, thinking, "Laura, your tricks in this lifetime haven't changed."
"But, Laura, I'm different."
I whistled. Someone with sharp eyes noticed a pure white parrot flying out and landing on my shoulder.
"Father, is this the one that Laura lost?"
Just as I finished speaking, the parrot on my shoulder started to mimic me word for word.
"Dotty, what if I kill you and inform father, will he kill Linda?"
"I, Laura Kim, am father's most beloved person! Father listens to everything I say. Even if I say Linda Kim is a traitor, Father will believe me."
"Father and Kellan are so foolish. I have deceived them so many times, and they still believe me."
Laura's face changed. She hurriedly came over, pointing at the parrot.
"Father, it's a lie. It's fake. This is a fake parrot. The dead one is the real one."
Father's face changed multiple times. As he looked at Laura, he was loving again.
Father patted Laura's shoulder with his big hand.
"Laura, I trust you. You are my most beloved child."
He tightened his grip on Laura's shoulder suddenly, and she instantly cried out in pain.
"But if I find out that you are lying again in the future, you will bear the consequences."
He started to doubt her.
The crack in their relationship was spreading.
"A good show is about to begin. Spectators, please take your seats."
Chapter 5
I sat in the audience, watching the good stage show.
Two girls were born in the same courtyard.
One was showered with love, while the other was neglected.
The favored one was like the bright moon in the sky, occupying all the attention.
The neglected one was living like a neglected rat in the gutter, being the backdrop for another girl.
Family bonds, friendship, and love were all the same.
I looked at Laura, who was whispering in the ear of a young general, Jack, in a corner.
Then I looked at Kellan, who was staring at Laura gloomily in the distance.
I couldn't help but smirk.
This was Laura's birthday banquet. It was her opportunity to win the hearts of the masses.
I would ruin all of this.
But first, I had to get rid of the man in front of me.
I looked at Kellan, and he was startled by my gaze.
It seemed like a long time had passed since I last saw him. I almost forgot about him.
I only remembered his extreme affection for another woman in front of me.
"Linda, would you marry me?"
His unexpected words made me feel both amused and disgusted.
"Mr. Shawn, what are you doing? Did Laura send you to marry me?"
"How did you know..." He spoke halfway, realizing something. Then he quickly changed his words.
"To be honest, I have admired you for a long time, Princess Linda."
I laughed out of anger, saying, "Is it the kind of admiration where you believe everything I say?"
He paused for a moment, but he was honest.
"No. I only unconditionally believe in Laura."
I asked my maid, Kate, to keep Kellan away, and I left without looking back.
