Chapter 3
The guests began discussing the car.
I shot an amused glance at Brandon. It seemed he had finally realized that his family couldn't afford such an expensive car. It shouldn't take long for him to realize that I wasn't Millie and that he and Sienna had humiliated the wrong person.
Unexpectedly, a steely expression appeared on Brandon's face as he pointed a trembling finger at me.
"You really are something else. How dare you convince Mom and Dad to buy such an expensive car for you? How shameless can you be, Millie? You're not even a Jensen. How dare you use Mom's and Dad's money to buy this car?"
He then pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the car to identify it. His eyes widened when he learned the cost of the car.
"This car costs so much? Did you drain all of their savings to buy it? I was wondering why they've been reducing the amount of money they send to me every year. Turns out that you've been spending all their money, you faker!"
Furious, Brandon tried to lunge at me, but Sienna grabbed his hand and held him back.
"Calm down, Brandon," she said in a faux-considerate tone. "Besides, I came here to settle the score with her, so why don't we calculate how much of our family's money she has spent and get her to return every single penny at once?"
Sienna lifted her chin and brandished the ledger again. She raised her voice and began listing everything off in a sharp tone.
"I've compiled everything in this ledger, including the clothing, food, housing, and transportation bills during your stay at the Jensen residence, your school fees, as well as your expenditures for your daily necessities.
"Everything has been listed down clearly. An outsider like you must pay us back for all of the Jensen family's money that you've spent!"
I nearly burst into laughter when I took the ledger and glanced at it.
I hadn't expected Sienna to be so meticulous and calculating. She even listed down the number of sanitary pads that were used every month as if she was so averse to the thought of spending even a single dime on Millie.
"Your calculation skills are quite extraordinary, Ms. Jensen. You even calculated the price of every single drop of facial cleanser that was used daily down to the decimal. I'm quite impressed."
The onlookers' faces twisted upon hearing my words. None of them had expected Sienna to be so meticulous in her calculations. Truth be told, her behavior was rather unpresentable.
Realizing that something was amiss with the way the onlookers were looking at her, a glint of malice flickered in Sienna's eyes. She then threw herself into Brandon's arms and began crying pitifully.
"You don't have to be sarcastic, Millie. I grew up in the sticks. A few dollars might mean nothing to you, but it's enough to cover my expenses for a few days!
"You grew up in a life of luxury, so I know that you look down on a woman from the mountains like me. But you don't have to be so mean to me, do you?"
A steely expression appeared on Brandon's face upon hearing Sienna's words. He pulled her behind him and pointed an accusing finger at me.
"What's with the sarcastic tone, Millie? If you didn't take Sienna's place and steal her identity, do you really think that you would be standing here in your tailored clothes right now? You stole everything that you have now from Sienna. How shameless do you have to be to keep antagonizing her?"
The crowd began discussing among themselves again as they shot looks of disdain and contempt at me.
"I really wonder where this fake heiress is getting the confidence to act so arrogantly. If I were in her shoes, I would have made myself scarce ages ago."
"Does she really believe that the Jensens will take her side because they took care of her for so many years when Sienna is their flesh and blood? A fake is still a fake. It doesn't matter that they raised her for years. She should know her place and leave now that the real daughter is back."
"No one in the world would be willing to give up a life of riches to live a tough life instead. She's such a malicious woman."
I took a deep breath and stared into Brandon's furious eyes.
"I'm not Millie Jensen," I said coldly. "You've got the wrong person."
Chapter 4
Silence descended upon the scene the moment the words left my lips. A long moment passed before the sounds of raucous laughter cut through the air.
The corners of Sienna's lips curled up into a mocking smile. She scoffed and sneered, "What's going on? Are you pretending to be stupid so you can get out of paying us, Millie? Didn't you call Mom earlier to tattle on us? Why are you claiming that you're not Millie right now?"
A vein pulsed in Brandon's forehead. His fury only intensified when he saw the astronomical compensation fee that was recorded in Sienna's ledger.
"You're really something else, Millie Jensen. How dare you spend so much of the Jensen family's fortune in the last few years? Mom and Dad have really spoiled you rotten. Have you really deluded yourself into believing that you're the heiress of a prestigious family?"
Brandon lunged at me and grabbed a fistful of my collar before I could snap back to my senses.
"Let me make myself clear. I don't care if you have to sell your own body to do it, but you must return every penny that you owe us. We won't let an outsider take advantage of the Jensen family's fortune!"
I rolled my eyes as Brandon grabbed me. I never would have guessed that the heir of the Jensen family, who had been sent abroad since he was a child, would have such a vulgar way of speaking.
Fortunately, I had taken some self-defense classes in the past. I drove my knee into his crotch, causing him to crumple to the ground immediately with a cry of pain.
"Y-You damned bitch, Millie Jensen!" he choked out as he clutched himself, trying but failing to get back on his feet.
I scoffed as I massaged my throbbing neck.
Sienna's face twisted. She let out a snarl as she lunged at me, screaming, "How dare you hurt Brandon? You're just a loser who won't even pay us back what you owe us!"
How ridiculous. Did she really think that I couldn't handle her when I dispatched Brandon without even breaking a sweat?
I whirled around and aimed a kick at her, causing her to crumple to the ground as well.
Brandon and Sienna whined in unison as they writhed on the ground together.
The onlookers couldn't stand by idly anymore and began voicing their complaints on the siblings' behalf.
"What a horrible bully! She's just a fake heiress, but she's acting so arrogantly."
"She's nothing more than a fake. Did she really delude herself into thinking that she's a princess just because she lived a life of luxury for the past few years?"
I swept my cold gaze over the crowd, making sure to commit the faces of those who were finding the most joy in this fiasco to memory.
"I'm only going to repeat myself one more time," I said. "I'm not Millie Jensen. You've got the wrong person."
An old man stumbled onto the scene the moment the words left my lips. He wrapped his arms around Sienna and Brandon, who were still lying on the ground, and began wailing loudly.
"Mr. and Ms. Jensen, it's all my fault for being too late! My failure caused both of you to suffer such terrible harassment!"
"Are you the butler of the Jensen residence?" a young man in the crowd asked. "You've been working for them for years, so you must know what the heiress of the Jensen family looks like. That woman keeps insisting that she's not Millie Jensen. Can you take a look at her and verify her words?"
Everyone directed their gazes toward the old man.
I didn't feel even an ounce of fear as I stared into his old and hazy eyes.
The old man narrowed his eyes slightly as he stared unblinkingly at my face. A few seconds later, he nodded resolutely and exclaimed, "There's no mistaking it! She's the woman that the Jensen family accidentally brought home instead of Ms. Jensen!"
Chaos erupted among the crowd the moment the words left his lips. Even I was left in a state of utter bewilderment.
"Are you blind, you old geezer? How can I be—"
I was interrupted when Brandon furiously leaped to his feet. He had just recovered from the excruciating blow that I dealt him. His lips were still pale when he pointed an accusing finger at me and began berating me.
"Guards! Throw her out of the Jensen residence!"
Meanwhile, Sienna continued fanning the flames of his ire.
"I guess I'll see you in court since you refuse to obediently cough up the money."
The crowd voiced their own opinions as they attempted to throw me out of the Jensen residence.
"Get out of here, you shameless, fake heiress!"
"The butler has already proved that you're lying. I can't believe that you think that you can still put up an act."
"You just don't want to pay them back because you owe them too much money, right? That's why you're pretending to be clueless and claiming that you're not Millie. Do you take us for fools?"
My body shook from anger. However, the crowd refused to listen to me, no matter how I tried to explain myself.
Just as I was about to be pushed out of the Jensen residence, Molly's car slowed to a stop in front of the villa.
Sienna immediately shoved me aside and rushed toward the car. "Mom, Dad, you're finally back! Disregarding the fact that this fake took my place for so many years, now she's refusing to pay us back for—"
Molly's expression twisted before Sienna could finish her sentence. She grabbed a fistful of Sienna's collar and slapped her multiple times.
"You stupid fool! How dare you cause such a big mess for me the moment you returned?"
She then turned around and approached me with an apologetic look. Her voice was shaking when she begged, "We'll collect the money that we owe you as soon as possible, Ms. York. Would you be kind enough to give us a few more days?"
I scoffed and patted the dust from my clothes. I then shot a cold glare at Brandon and Sienna, saying, "I would have been willing to give you a few more days at first. But now, I want you to pay all your debts today."
