Chapter 2

Justin nodded, and his tone softened inexplicably, "Tomorrow for the X-ray, then."

At that time, I didn't understand what he meant.

Later on, when I was trying to book an appointment online, I noticed that Mr. Smithson wasn't listed as an available option

I then asked Eric and learned that Justin was off tomorrow. Only then did I realize that his momentary kindness was a disguised mockery of me.

The more challenging it was, the more I liked it.

Ultimately, my specialty was eagerly embracing the challenge of pursuing men.

"I got Justin's number from Eric and promptly called him to invite him out for dinner.

Unsurprisingly, he refused me.

Of course, I'm not discouraged. I chose to keep trying despite repeated failures

Then something strange happened-

Although he refused whenever I invited him to dinner, he always answered my calls.

Then I booked an appointment with him again. This time, my chest hurt.

During my previous menstrual cycles, I used to feel a bit of fullness in my chest, so initially, I didn't give it much thought.

But now, several days after my period had ended, my chest was still hurting, even with the slightest touch. I was afraid that I might have developed some health issues.

Upon seeing me, Justin's originally indifferent expression turned somber, and his tone became indifferent and unyielding. "Ms. Jefferson, I made it clear to you on the phone last time. I hope you..."

"My chest is actually hurting, genuinely."

Justin was stunned. Recognizing my seriousness, he immediately reminded himself of his medical ethics.

He asked me to sit across from him and then began inquiring, "Is the pain constant or occasional? Have you touched it yourself, and can you feel any lumps?

I responded honestly, "It's continuous swelling pain. There seems to be a hard lump on the right side. I'm not sure."

Justin stared at me for a while and then asked me to lift up my clothes like last time.

I thought he would repeatedly call the female doctor, but I didn't expect him to do it himself.

Despite the gloves covering his hands, the gentle touch had my scalp buzzin.

I stared at him, not letting go of any expression.

But he was too calm, and his eyes were full of profoundness, which made it difficult to tell whether he was happy or angry.

After the examination, Justin gave me a referral for an X-ray.

"Bring the X-ray results back to me after the examination," said Justin.

"Oh," I answered.

Finished tidying up, I turned around and walked out.

At the door, I turned around and asked him, "Are your private consultations expensive??"

Justin frowned slightly and said, "What does that mean?"

"It means to ask you to come to my house to treat me."

Hearing this, Justin adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose. His fingers were slender and beautiful.

The white coat made his gentle and restrained temperament even more vivid.

At that time, I thought that if such a person became a scum, it would be very exciting.

Of course, Justin wouldn't agree to come to my house to treat me in private.

But I can go to his house.

"How did you know that I lived here?" Justin stood before the door, showing no intention of letting me in.

Seeing I didn't answer, he took out his mobile phone to call my brother.

I pressed down on his hand that was dialing the number.

Justin shrank back, for fear that I would have physical contact with him.

"Isn't... isn't he too pure?"

He was a breast surgeon!

Justin stared at me and asked, "How did you know I lived here?!"

"That day, I spotted a delivery package in your office, which bore your home address on it."

Hearing this, Justin was speechless.

That was the pen he had purchased online. He forgot to pick it up from the delivery locker on the first day it arrived. The next morning, he returned to retrieve it and took it to the hospital.

He didn't expect that not only did I have sharp eyes, but I also paid attention to everything.

"What's the matter? He asked me again flatly.

I quickly looked inside your room and cut to the chase, "You live here by yourself?"

"What do you want to do?"

"If you can't come to my place to treat me, I'll just have to come over to yours and see if you can help me. Is that alright?"

Perhaps because I was shamelessly persistent, Justin couldn't stifle a chuckle, exasperated, "Is this how you ask for help?"

I shrugged and said, "This is my first time asking for help. I'm not very good at it yet."

Justin narrowed his eyes slightly.

"Can I come in?"

In the end, he let me in.

He knew darn well that, by showing up at his doorstep, I was fully committed to playing the shameless card to the very end.

"What would you like to drink?" he asked me as he stood by the fridge.

But before I could reply, he poured me a glass of water.

I looked at the glass he handed me and chuckled. " Mr. Smithson, are you genuinely pure or just putting on a show of innocence?"

Justin answered, "I don't understand what you're talking about."

"I'll drink those," I said, pointing at his wine cabinet.

Justin assumed his professional air as a doctor and remarked, "You don't come to see me for medical advice, do you? Remember, alcohol and illness don't mix well."

"That is to say, you are willing to treat me?"

As I spoke, I got up and walked towards him.

Justin didn't dodge.

I was surprised, but I continued to walk forward.

It was not until our clothes were stuck to each other that I asked Mr. Smithson again, "What's your fee for consulting with me at your residence?"

"It's costly."

"How much? If I can't afford it, can I offer myself in marriage as a token of gratitude?"

smirked, his lips curling in a hint of sarcasm, and said, "Getting bored with your dating pool, huh? Looking to mix things up with me now?"

"What dating pool?"

"Don't pretend," he grabbed my arm and pushed me back to keep a distance from me, "You're not exactly a pro at asking for favors, but when it comes to flirting, you've got it down pat!"

I was amused by his words and tiptoed closer to his lips, exhaling softly with a fragrant breath, "Am I really that good? I think you are the type who wouldn't be swayed by temptation?"

"What exactly constitutes being swayed?" he asked.

Even when kissing, Justin had a restrained look on his face.

Seeing that I didn't close my eyes, he raised his hand to cover them.

"Mr. Smithson..."

"Focus on paying."

I kept quiet, but once it was all done, I couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Smithson, is it standard procedure for you to collect payment before even examining the patient?"

" Not for others, but for you, it is."

"Then Mr. Smithson, are you going to treat me now or later?"

"Now."

The feeling of not wearing gloves and wearing gloves was completely different.

I suddenly suspected that Justin was just restraining his desire on the surface.

His way of treating patients was so professional.

He was so professional that I was still confused when he tidied up his clothes and resumed his calm and restrained look.

Justin adjusted his glasses and looked at the clock on the wall. His voice was low, "It's too late. You should go home."

Heh.

"He's really something," I thought.

I lowered my head and chuckled. Then, I went to the sofa and took out a cigarette case and a lighter from my bag.

This was the first time I had smoked in front of Justin.

He frowned as if he didn't like it.

"If you need to smoke, please do it outside. Don't make my house smell like smoke."

"Mr. Smithson, you don't smoke? " I'll blow a puff of smoke in his direction. "It's a pity. Smoking a cigarette and savoring it slowly during moments like these offers distinct enjoyment."

"Valery Jefferson."

"What's wrong?"
