Chapter 2

I struggled to stand up while supporting my powerless body.

However, my gaze was fixed on his smooth and fair fingers, especially on his ring finger.

I could not help but ask, "Where's your wedding ring?"

His gaze finally turned to me.

"When I was making soup for you before, I took it off because I was afraid of dropping it in the pot." He explained to me and then touched his ring finger somewhat unnaturally.

I saw that there was indeed a blue insulated box on the table, so I nodded. "I see."

In the past, when Garrick and I were in love, he felt sorry for me being a doctor.

He always warmed some soup in the pot for me.

But since his first love came back, he had never made soup for me.

I walked towards the dining table, but he stopped me again. "Leslie kept crying in the hospital, saying that your stitches were ugly."

"Can you go and apologize to her? Just for me."

Leslie's parents had passed away and Garrick once promised her father and mother to take good care of her.

If it were not for Garrick helping my parents back then, I would not be where I was today.

Anyway, he was not important anymore, just an apology.

"Okay."

After I finished speaking, I wanted to open the thermos box and drink a bowl of soup, but Garrick snatched it away.

The movement was even a bit hasty.

"This is for Leslie. Yours is in the pot."

The phone vibrated again. Garrick was so flustered that he accidentally clicked on the voice message.

Leslie said in a charming voice, "Garrick, when will you deliver the soup you cooked for me? I'm so hungry."

The corners of the man's mouth immediately rose after replying to the message.

He hurriedly said to me, "I'm going to the hospital to see Leslie first, you should have a good rest."

I nodded, neither confirming nor denying.

I went to the kitchen and lifted the lid of the pot, but the soup was already cold.

There was nothing to eat.

I picked up my mobile phone to order takeout, but found out that Leslie had sent me a message with a photo.

She said, [Wendy, it seems that Garrick accidentally left this ring with me. I will send it to you some other day.]

I lowered my eyes and remained silent for a long time.

Garrick wore that wedding ring for eight years.

It had never been taken off. If it had not taken a great deal of effort, how could it be taken off easily?

After eating the takeout, my stomach felt much better.

I searched on WhatsApp, looking for the contact of my former law classmates.

[Hello, I would like to consult about divorce matters.]

I sent a long paragraph about my situation and sincerely begged this classmate to help me.

The other party quickly agreed and arranged a time and place.

But a red dot appeared on my X account, notifying me.

I clicked on it, Leslie posted a photo on her X post with a caption: [Thank you to my boyfriend for the loving seafood soup.]

The photo did not show Garrick's face, but I recognized him at a glance.

The comments below her post were all blessings.

[Oh, the young couple finally admitted it. How sweet!]

[Wish it last forever.]

Leslie even replied to each comment in the comment section. The seafood soup was specially made by my boyfriend after three hours of cooking.]

Everyone was praising Garrick for being a good boyfriend.

Soon, Garrick also made a post on his X, notifying me.

[Sorry guys, considering my girlfriend is jealous, so ladies on the friend list, I have to unfollow you.]

The direct message from Garrick quickly popped up on my X chat box.

[I already have a girlfriend, let’s delete each other, thank you.]

Chapter 3

I slowly typed out a line of words. [Wait until we have discussed the divorce ...] but I had not finished yet.

The system prompted that it had been deleted.

My heart was like a pool of stagnant water, without any ripples or waves.

When I finished packing my luggage, I dragged my black suitcase to the door.

Unexpectedly, I ran into Garrick who was returning home. He glanced at my forehead which was covered with white gauze.

The action of closing the door suddenly became violent and he slammed the door hard to the outside.

He looked at me with cold eyes.

"Just because Leslie played too much with her boyfriend, you think I cheated on you. Wendy, I'm telling you, I have never done anything wrong to you," he said it decisively, but what I saw was the truth.

He probably did not know that he forgot to block me many times when he posted on his X post.

"I'm going on a business trip." I interrupted coldly.

"You are acting like a jealous woman now. How old are you still playing the trick of running away from home? Isn't it shameful?"

I was just about to tell him that I was already thirty years old and married him at the age of twenty-two. So, it had been eight years.

But he scoffed. "I hate ignorant and self-righteous women the most. Wendy, you know my temper."

When he walked into the living room, he even pushed me out fiercely. "Aren't you going on a business trip? Get lost."

After eight years of marriage, Garrick and I had countless arguments and every time I was the one who humbled myself and begged for peace.

Since he helped my father get through difficult times back then, he had become a god in my mind.

There were even many times when he kicked me out of the house.

I always come back humbly, waiting for him obediently to open the door for me.

But this time, I really did not care.

Without looking back, I hailed a taxi heading towards the airport.

The man did not wait for me to knock on the door and ask for peace, but I had already arrived at the airport.

Before boarding the plane, he made over a dozen phone calls.

I had to pick it up at least.

I just had to press the answer button.

Through the phone screen, I could feel that Garrick's face looked extremely unpleasant.

He asked in an irritable tone,

"I called you so many times, why didn't you answer?"

I casually made up an excuse. "Sorry, I turned on the mute and didn't notice."

"I specifically asked about scar repair and the hospital said you were the only one in the city who could perform this repair surgery."

It turned out that he called me because of Leslie.

"Wendy, I order you to come back now and arrange surgery for her immediately. Her matter cannot wait even a moment."

Before I could speak, Leslie's delicate voice came over. "Wendy, thank you for letting Garrick take care of me. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what to do if such a big thing happened."

"In this world, I think he is the only one who doesn't despise me for being a fool. How embarrassing."

I felt the anger somewhere in my body being completely ignited and blurted out: "Get lost, Leslie, isn't it disgusting for you to talk like that?"

The next second, Garrick's furious voice rang out. "Wendy, how dare you!"

What am I afraid of?

I quickly hung up the phone. I did not want this man anymore, so there was no need to get used to him.

But half an hour later.

Garrick rushed straight into the airport lounge and grabbed me, who was sitting on a chair.

Without further ado, he slapped me in the face. "Wendy, who gave you the courage to insult Leslie like this?"

Men were naturally very temperamental and the slap he gave me almost made me dizzy.

Not only did my face hurt, but I also felt like the wound on my forehead seemed to have opened up even more severely.

Chapter 4

Covering half of my face with my hand, I stared at him and said, "She is just an orphan and I am your wife."

"What a joke." He looked at me with disgust and said coldly, "What qualifications do you have to compare with Leslie? In my heart, you are not even qualified to be compared with her!"

"Come back with me!" He grabbed my hair with his big hands and almost dragged me forward.

I held onto the iron chair and suitcase tightly.

In a fit of rage, he kicked my suitcase and smashed it to pieces.

I clearly heard a sound of porcelain shattering in my ears and Garrick was stunned.

I squatted down, tears streaming down my face. It was a pair of porcelain jars.

It was the porcelain jar we made together on our first date.

He taught me hand in hand how to shape a clay pot and we even drew and colored it together.

Finally, they were glazed and it took half a year to complete this pair of porcelain jars.

That was my most beautiful memory with him. That was also my wish.

But now, the last bit of reluctance had also been destroyed.

I picked them up piece by piece, trying to piece together the porcelain jar, but failed.

Garrick grabbed my sleeve impatiently. "Don't pick it up, it's just a broken porcelain jar."

The car was driving very fast, which showed the man's urgent mood.

Soon, we arrived at the hospital.

So now, he only had Leslie in his eyes.

I met Garrick in college. At that time, my father's business was in financial difficulty and facing bankruptcy.

It was Garrick who appeared like a life saver and saved me and my family.

Later, he pursued me with almost no effort and I agreed.

I majored in general medicine. At that time, he loved fighting and his body was always covered with varying sizes of wounds.

Some were even on his face. I specially took a scar repair course and got full marks for him.

After graduation, I entered the hospital and scar repair became a plus point for me.

At that time, he told me, "Having you is like having the whole world. Wendy, you can't abandon me."

But after only eight short years of marriage, everything changed.

He forgot that I took this specialization for him and forced me to perform reconstructive surgery on his first love.

The two of them played too much that they ended up in the hospital.

There was no original partner in the world who was more frustrated than me.

After the reconstructive surgery, my face turned pale and my figure was on the verge of collapse.

Leslie said pretentiously, "Oh, I still have to get up and thank Wendy for performing the surgery on me. Garrick, don't you think so?"

"No need, that's what she should do as a doctor."

However, Leslie pulled me over with a shy expression and stuffed the familiar wedding ring into my hand.

Her smile was sweet, but her tone was extremely vicious. "I said I didn't like seeing him wearing a wedding ring and he took it off and threw it in the trash can without even thinking about it."

She leaned closer to me and said, "Wendy, in love, the one who is not loved is the mistress."

I did not say anything, but the pain in my heart swept through my whole body.

I directly threw a pair of wedding rings into the trash can.

The next time I saw Garrick, he was peeling an apple for Leslie.

I remembered that when I had a stomachache before, I also pestered him to peel an apple for me.

But at that time, his face was full of disgust and he stuffed the whole apple into my mouth, with a tone full of resentment.

"How old are you? Apple peels are nutritious. You can just chew them."

I thought he was disdainful of doing such a thing, but it turned out he did not want to do it for me.

When the plate of apple chunks was almost empty, I was about to knock on the door and go in.

But I saw Leslie holding an apple in her mouth and feeding it to Garrick mouth-to-mouth.

"You are so awesome, Garrick. I don't even know how to peel an apple. This last piece of apple is a reward for you."

He opened his mouth and bite it lovingly.

The two of them even kissed each other as if no one was around.

Until her face blushed and she leaned against the man.

I thought seeing this scene would make me heartbroken, but in fact, I just felt numb.

This marriage was nothing but a farce.

I just wanted to end it as soon as possible.

Leslie saw me standing at the door and hurriedly got off him, nervously speaking, "Wendy, why are you here?"

Seeing my dark eyes, she quickly explained in a coquettish voice. "I was too excited just now. Wendy, please don't get me wrong, there is really nothing between me and Garrick ...."

Her expression changed from shyness to shock and she covered her face and retreated back to the hospital bed.

Garrick, however, stepped forward and hugged the girl back in a protective posture.

He pressed her head into his arms and said, "What's there to explain? I just pamper you like a sister."

He turned his head and looked at me with obvious dislike. "What are you doing here?"

I took out a piece of white paper from my bag and told Garrick that it was a confirmation letter from the hospital that required family members to sign.

It involved Leslie, the apple of his eye and he was busy comforting the frightened girlfriend in his arms.

He signed without a second thought.

I got the agreement successfully.

Then I did something that surprised everyone present.

I bowed to Garrick and said solemnly,

"Mr. Steinfeld, thank you for helping my family through the difficult times back then. I don't owe you anything for the past eight years."

I turned and left, but I heard Garrick's panicked voice behind me.

"Wendy, what do you mean by that?"
