Chapter 1

The eighth year of my marriage with Garrick Steinfeld.

He lied to me about going on a business trip out of town.

In fact, he was busy sleeping with his first love, who was now his girlfriend, Leslie Davenport.

But ended up in the hospital because he went too far.

Late at night, I, Wendy Hurst, received an urgent call from the emergency department.

I took a glance at the girl's lower body, which was somewhat unbearable to look at. "Arrange surgery immediately."

Seeing that I was the one performing the surgery, Garrick threatened me coldly. "Wendy, if you can't give her a good treatment, I will end your career today."

After the surgery, he personally took care of his girlfriend, just to ensure that she could be discharged from the hospital in good health.

But then, when he got home, he pointed at me and yelled at me, saying that I deliberately made Leslie's surgical stitches look ugly.

He asked me to apologize to her.

I insisted on refusing, but Garrick threatened me. "If you don't apologize to her, I'll divorce you."

I used to care about our marriage.

But now I did not want it anymore.

——

"What's the point of you playing like this? Why do you want me to apologize?" I coldly questioned him.

My husband, who I had been married to for eight years, was having fun with his girlfriend until she ended up to the hospital, which embarrassed me and made me a laughingstock in the social media.

His expression changed, then he pushed me hard and said coldly, "Wendy, can you please stop being unreasonable?" Garrick's eyes were only filled with disappointment.

I was pushed directly to the sharp corner of the closet and my forehead was cut. The pain left me speechless.

I wiped it with my hand and my hand was stained with blood.

But Garrick pretended not to see it and continued to accuse me. "Leslie is so innocent, but your thoughts are dirty and filthy."

He was obsessed with defending other women.

My heart gradually sank.

"It's really shameful for you to do this," I said word by word.

The anger in my heart was like a fire ignited by gasoline, burning ever more fiercely.

He responded, "So what if it's true? It's just for fun and I promised to take good care of Leslie."

He used to say the same thing before, which made me sympathize with Leslie. But it was different now.

I felt hurt and disappointed. Is this what he means by taking good care of someone?

Going to the bed with her?

I insisted on refusing to apologize to her.

Garrick's face turned completely cold.

"When did you become such a petty person? You deliberately left those ugly stitch scars on Leslie's body to take revenge on me."

"Then let's get a divorce."

There was a sense of tiredness in my voice. I was tired of this marriage.

"No, I don't agree. Wendy, I won't let you go. You must go and apologize to Leslie now."

I agreed, but he did not let me go.

He put his hands on my shoulders. He was very strong and his grasp hurt me.

During the surgery, I did not eat or drink anything, my lips were dry and my body felt like cotton without strength.

And there was blood on her forehead now.

"I haven't eaten yet and the wound on my forehead needs to be treated."

"None of that matters. Leslie is still waiting for your apology."

He shook me a bit harder, but pushed me right back down to sit in the foyer.

I had been working non-stop for 12 hours before performing surgery on Leslie.

As soon as I got home from work, I was called back to the emergency department

Medical ethics made me unable to bear the death of a teenage girl, so I had to endure my tired body and complete the entire surgery.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to push you."

Seeing me fall to the floor, Garrick reached out his hand to help me up.

Suddenly, the mobile phone in his trouser pocket vibrated and he immediately retracted his outstretched hand.

He took out his mobile phone and looked at it with a serious face.

No need to guess, I was sure the one messaging him was his girlfriend, Leslie, who was also my surgery patient today.

Chapter 2

I struggled to stand up while supporting my powerless body.

However, my gaze was fixed on his smooth and fair fingers, especially on his ring finger.

I could not help but ask, "Where's your wedding ring?"

His gaze finally turned to me.

"When I was making soup for you before, I took it off because I was afraid of dropping it in the pot." He explained to me and then touched his ring finger somewhat unnaturally.

I saw that there was indeed a blue insulated box on the table, so I nodded. "I see."

In the past, when Garrick and I were in love, he felt sorry for me being a doctor.

He always warmed some soup in the pot for me.

But since his first love came back, he had never made soup for me.

I walked towards the dining table, but he stopped me again. "Leslie kept crying in the hospital, saying that your stitches were ugly."

"Can you go and apologize to her? Just for me."

Leslie's parents had passed away and Garrick once promised her father and mother to take good care of her.

If it were not for Garrick helping my parents back then, I would not be where I was today.

Anyway, he was not important anymore, just an apology.

"Okay."

After I finished speaking, I wanted to open the thermos box and drink a bowl of soup, but Garrick snatched it away.

The movement was even a bit hasty.

"This is for Leslie. Yours is in the pot."

The phone vibrated again. Garrick was so flustered that he accidentally clicked on the voice message.

Leslie said in a charming voice, "Garrick, when will you deliver the soup you cooked for me? I'm so hungry."

The corners of the man's mouth immediately rose after replying to the message.

He hurriedly said to me, "I'm going to the hospital to see Leslie first, you should have a good rest."

I nodded, neither confirming nor denying.

I went to the kitchen and lifted the lid of the pot, but the soup was already cold.

There was nothing to eat.

I picked up my mobile phone to order takeout, but found out that Leslie had sent me a message with a photo.

She said, [Wendy, it seems that Garrick accidentally left this ring with me. I will send it to you some other day.]

I lowered my eyes and remained silent for a long time.

Garrick wore that wedding ring for eight years.

It had never been taken off. If it had not taken a great deal of effort, how could it be taken off easily?

After eating the takeout, my stomach felt much better.

I searched on WhatsApp, looking for the contact of my former law classmates.

[Hello, I would like to consult about divorce matters.]

I sent a long paragraph about my situation and sincerely begged this classmate to help me.

The other party quickly agreed and arranged a time and place.

But a red dot appeared on my X account, notifying me.

I clicked on it, Leslie posted a photo on her X post with a caption: [Thank you to my boyfriend for the loving seafood soup.]

The photo did not show Garrick's face, but I recognized him at a glance.

The comments below her post were all blessings.

[Oh, the young couple finally admitted it. How sweet!]

[Wish it last forever.]

Leslie even replied to each comment in the comment section. The seafood soup was specially made by my boyfriend after three hours of cooking.]

Everyone was praising Garrick for being a good boyfriend.

Soon, Garrick also made a post on his X, notifying me.

[Sorry guys, considering my girlfriend is jealous, so ladies on the friend list, I have to unfollow you.]

The direct message from Garrick quickly popped up on my X chat box.

[I already have a girlfriend, let’s delete each other, thank you.]

Chapter 3

I slowly typed out a line of words. [Wait until we have discussed the divorce ...] but I had not finished yet.

The system prompted that it had been deleted.

My heart was like a pool of stagnant water, without any ripples or waves.

When I finished packing my luggage, I dragged my black suitcase to the door.

Unexpectedly, I ran into Garrick who was returning home. He glanced at my forehead which was covered with white gauze.

The action of closing the door suddenly became violent and he slammed the door hard to the outside.

He looked at me with cold eyes.

"Just because Leslie played too much with her boyfriend, you think I cheated on you. Wendy, I'm telling you, I have never done anything wrong to you," he said it decisively, but what I saw was the truth.

He probably did not know that he forgot to block me many times when he posted on his X post.

"I'm going on a business trip." I interrupted coldly.

"You are acting like a jealous woman now. How old are you still playing the trick of running away from home? Isn't it shameful?"

I was just about to tell him that I was already thirty years old and married him at the age of twenty-two. So, it had been eight years.

But he scoffed. "I hate ignorant and self-righteous women the most. Wendy, you know my temper."

When he walked into the living room, he even pushed me out fiercely. "Aren't you going on a business trip? Get lost."

After eight years of marriage, Garrick and I had countless arguments and every time I was the one who humbled myself and begged for peace.

Since he helped my father get through difficult times back then, he had become a god in my mind.

There were even many times when he kicked me out of the house.

I always come back humbly, waiting for him obediently to open the door for me.

But this time, I really did not care.

Without looking back, I hailed a taxi heading towards the airport.

The man did not wait for me to knock on the door and ask for peace, but I had already arrived at the airport.

Before boarding the plane, he made over a dozen phone calls.

I had to pick it up at least.

I just had to press the answer button.

Through the phone screen, I could feel that Garrick's face looked extremely unpleasant.

He asked in an irritable tone,

"I called you so many times, why didn't you answer?"

I casually made up an excuse. "Sorry, I turned on the mute and didn't notice."

"I specifically asked about scar repair and the hospital said you were the only one in the city who could perform this repair surgery."

It turned out that he called me because of Leslie.

"Wendy, I order you to come back now and arrange surgery for her immediately. Her matter cannot wait even a moment."

Before I could speak, Leslie's delicate voice came over. "Wendy, thank you for letting Garrick take care of me. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what to do if such a big thing happened."

"In this world, I think he is the only one who doesn't despise me for being a fool. How embarrassing."

I felt the anger somewhere in my body being completely ignited and blurted out: "Get lost, Leslie, isn't it disgusting for you to talk like that?"

The next second, Garrick's furious voice rang out. "Wendy, how dare you!"

What am I afraid of?

I quickly hung up the phone. I did not want this man anymore, so there was no need to get used to him.

But half an hour later.

Garrick rushed straight into the airport lounge and grabbed me, who was sitting on a chair.

Without further ado, he slapped me in the face. "Wendy, who gave you the courage to insult Leslie like this?"

Men were naturally very temperamental and the slap he gave me almost made me dizzy.

Not only did my face hurt, but I also felt like the wound on my forehead seemed to have opened up even more severely.
