Chapter 3
With that said, he turned to look at the other side. "See if anyone has made a police report recently. If they reported a missing woman, pay more attention. The deceased's blood has been sent for data comparison, but the results are expected to take three days."
Connor's phone rang once he finished speaking.
"Connor, why didn't anyone pick up the birthday cake I ordered for Clarisse at the bakery? She's not answering my calls either. Is Clarisse with you?"
It was his sister, Celia Simpson, who was also my only best friend at school. If it were not for her, I would not have met Connor.
My parents died young and I had no other relatives.
After Audrey's death, she was the only one who would secretly celebrate my birthday for me.
As expected, Connor's face darkened when he heard my name. "With me? Who does she think she is? As for why she didn't text you back, she was probably embarrassed. If it wasn't for her, would Audrey be dead? Despite this, you're even thinking of celebrating her birthday?"
Hearing Connor's hateful voice, Celia answered hesitantly, "Connor, you haven't moved on? But you already married Clarisse. Can't you treat her well? Besides, no one thought Audrey would jump. This has nothing to do with Clarisse, okay? Clarisse loves you so much..."
Connor interrupted her impatiently before she finished speaking. "Enough, don't mention her to me. She can go anywhere she wants. It has nothing to do with me. Your sister-in-law will only be Rosalie from now on!"
As soon as he finished speaking, it felt like a sharp knife was twisting in my heart and I was in so much pain that I could not breathe.
Ever since he met Rosalie, he would bring her home from time to time. They left traces of their love everywhere in the house.
Every time I argued with him, he just smirked. "Clarisse, you have no right to argue with me. You can't stand it? Divorce me then."
Although Connor was smiling, his eyes were indifferent. Seeing me crying in front of him, his smile widened. He knew that I loved him so much that I would not divorce him easily.
However, I wanted to tell him before I died. I wanted to say, 'Connor, let's get divorced as you wished.'
I had prepared the divorce agreement long ago. I was just reluctant to leave him, but he kept humiliating me and trampling over my feelings. It hurt me so much that I could not bear the pain. I did nothing wrong. Why did he have to treat me like that?
Celia sighed helplessly at hearing his remark. "Connor, stop doing this. Otherwise, you'll regret it."
Connor sneered and replied, "Why would I regret it? I wish she would die in front of me to atone for her sins!"
After hanging up, Connor stood straight and gloomily looked at the scenery outside the window.
Donald heard everything and advised, "Connor, your sister is right. The person is gone. You should cherish the people you have now. You've ignored her for so long. If it had been any other woman, she would have been unable to stand it long ago. Listen to me. Hurry and go find her."
Connor wiped his face and answered somewhat hoarsely, "No way. Audrey fled abroad to recuperate because she got depressed from her family going bankrupt and had people chasing her for debt every day. She didn't study abroad at all.
"If I didn't marry Clarisse, maybe Audrey wouldn't have relapsed into depression and jumped off a building. Maybe we could have gotten back together... Clarisse is the culprit. She shouldn’t even show herself in front of me again!"
