Chapter 7
The company didn't allow office romances. Anyone who broke this rule would be fired.
Jasper and I had always been in a secret relationship. We would avoid each other in the company. No one knew about our relationship.
As soon as Jasper saw me, he grabbed my sleeve and walked out without saying a word.
"Why are you here? Didn't we agree to break up?" He asked.
I wanted to speak. But I couldn't say anything for a moment. Jasper had never been so mean to me before.
"I don't want to break up. This is a gift for you." I said.
Jasper’s birthday was in a few days. I customized the watch half a year in advance. I just received it yesterday. The price of this watch was one million dollars.
One of Jasper's colleagues happened to come up from downstairs. He ran into us.
"Jasper, hurry up. We have a meeting soon."
Jasper spoke in a gentle tone,
"Okay, Zoe. I'll accept the gift. You can go back now! I still have things to do."
I made a reservation at a nice restaurant. I said, "After your election next week, I will take you to dinner."
Jasper interrupted me. When talking about the election, his eyes lit up. He said, "I will definitely win the position."
Seeing him like this, I should have been relieved.
But for some reason, I felt uneasy inside.
However, I remembered one more thing.
My cousin, Kathy Edward, also worked in this department. She asked me out last week, but I was too busy to go. We then made another appointment to meet this weekend.
Chapter 8
When I was getting off work, I happened to meet my college roommate, Gina, in the supermarket.
"It's good to see you, Zoe. Congratulations." Gina said.
I was stunned for a moment. "Congratulations on what?"
Gina was even more confused. "Aren't you getting married?"
What?
I bought a ring and planned to propose to Jasper after his election. But I didn't tell anyone about this.
Gina took out her phone.
She explained, "I saw Jasper posted that he was getting married soon. You two have been together for so many years. You must be the bride. How could you not know?
"You are truly a loving couple. If you break up, I won't believe in love anymore."
After Jasper received the gift, I added him back on Twitter. He did post that he was getting married.
But I couldn't see it.
I just knew that Jasper blocked me.
I found out from Jasper's friends that he had moved here. I knocked on the door.
When Jasper saw that it was me, he wanted to close the door.
I quickly stopped him. We had been together for seven years. I just needed an answer as to why he wanted to break up with me.
"Jasper, are you getting married?" I asked.
Seeing that he couldn't close the door, Jasper had no choice but to let me in.
"Yes, Zoe. I'm sorry. I'm getting married soon."
I said, "I thought we were good. You accepted the watch. What do you mean?"
Jasper said, "I did accept your gift. But it didn't mean I agree to be with you again."
He continued saying, "For the sake of our relationship over the years, please don't bother me anymore. I'll send you an invitation to the wedding. If you come, I hope to get your blessing."
These words seemed to strike me like thunder. I was incredulous. "We just broke up. Now you are getting married. Did you cheat on me?"
Jasper said, "Let me tell you the truth. I am going to marry the Mr. Edward's daughter."
I didn't understand every word he said. But I slapped Jasper hard.
Jasper covered his face. "You dare to hit me?"
