Chapter 4

Before going to bed at night, Jasper came up to me.

He whispered, "Zoe, I will be running for manager next month. This position is very important to me."

I nodded. I looked at him with a bit of doubt.

Jasper fed me the freshly cut fruit. He said, "We have been together for many years. I think it's time for me to meet Mr. Grey."

I was promoted quickly in the company. Jasper always suspected that I was Mr. Edward's relative. He was hinting at this.

I touched his shoulders. I said, "Don't worry. You did a good job. If you prepare well for the election, you will definitely get the position."

Jasper's expression changed suddenly. He said, "Zoe, I have been waiting for this position for almost two years.

"Among the candidates, there are those with higher qualifications than me. Some are more experienced than me. I don't have much chance to win."

Jasper became emotional. I didn't know how to calm him down.

"Jasper, believe me. As long as you prepare well..."

Jasper became impatient. He said sternly, "Zoe! If you don't want to help me, just shut up!

"You don't understand me at all. Your family is rich! You got promoted quickly thanks to your father. You have no idea how hard it is for me to wait for an opportunity like this."

I was stunned for a moment. How could Jasper speak to me like that?

I shouted, "Bullshit! I got my current position step by step on my own.

"Dad said he wanted to help me, but I refused.

"You slandered me for your own incompetence. How dare you?"

Seeing that I was angry, Jasper realized that he had said something wrong. He hugged me and apologized quickly.

"Zoe, I was wrong. I was too anxious. I shouldn't have said such things. I'm sorry."

Jasper had lost a lot of weight recently.

I forgave him.

I still liked Jasper. I don’t want to ruin our relationship.

I went on a business trip for a week.

Chapter 5

After that night, he rarely called me. He replied to my messages several hours later.

I sent him so many messages. But Jasper just replied with an "Ok."

Jasper changed his attitude toward me. He became cold.

I knew something was wrong. I rushed to complete the task assigned by the company. I returned two days earlier.

When I got home, Jasper hadn't gone home yet.

I waited on the couch from five in the afternoon until 11 at night. Jasper never came back.

I sent him a message: [Where are you?]

No reply.

I called him.

He still didn't reply.

I called a few of his friends. They also didn't know where he was.

I thought, "How could he suddenly disappear without a trace?"

I stayed awake all night. I was nervous.

At six o'clock the next morning, there was the sound of a key unlocking the door.

Jasper came back. He smelled strongly of alcohol. His shirt was wrinkled. He was surprised to see me.

He said, "Why are you coming back?

"Have you eaten yet? You didn't tell me you would come home earlier. Did you order some food for yourself?"

I stood up. I said angrily, "I've been waiting for you all night."

Jasper frowned. "Why are you waiting for me? I had something to do last night. I invited my colleagues to go to the party. I got drunk and slept in a hotel."

I doubted what he said. I became suspicious.

While he was taking a shower, I looked through his clothes. There was no smell of perfume, lipstick marks, or women's long hair on them.

Jasper once told me that he wouldn't fool around with other women. He thought it was disgusting.

I wondered, "Am I worrying too much? Maybe Jasper didn't lie. He got drunk and slept in a hotel. So he didn't come home."

Chapter 6

[Zoe, please help me pay the bill.]

The next day when I went to work, Jasper sent me a message.

I clicked on the link. Jasper wanted to buy three pairs of underwear for ten dollars.

Jasper was asking me to pay for him again! Just ten dollars!

I looked at Jasper's handsome photo on the screensaver. I paid the bill.

Then Jasper replied: [Thank you.]

Three minutes later.

Jasper sent another message: [I think we should break up.]

Then he texted again: [I've thought about it for a long time. Life has been too stressful recently. You're so busy with work. I have my things to do. I feel like we're not suitable. You can continue to live in the house. I already moved out my luggage.]

I rubbed my forehead. I threw the folder on the table.

The assistant next to me asked quietly, "Ms. Grey, is there something wrong with the file?"

"It's okay. I'll email you the parts that need to be revised later. Go and have a rest first."

I couldn't help but recall every detail of our past. I texted him: [Are you serious?]

The message was not sent successfully. Jasper deleted me on Twitter.

Jasper wasn't like this before.

He was handsome, hard working and ambitious.

On my birthday and anniversary, he would give me the best gifts he could afford.

I still remembered that we were sitting on a bench by the lake in the school. I touched his face.

His ears turned red. He slowly came closer to kiss me.

At the last moment, I suddenly turned around and kissed him. It was his first kiss.

He was startled. He didn't dare to look at me. I looked at him and smiled.

Thinking of the past, I took the elevator downstairs. I came to the department where Jasper was.

"Is Jasper here?"

His colleague heard my voice. He shouted towards Jasper.

"Jasper, someone is looking for you!"
