Burned by His Old Flame
The tour bus that my mother-in-law, Madison Caldwell, and my son, Samuel Sadler, are on flips over on a mountain road. It hangs from a tree on the cliff, on the verge of falling at any moment.
My husband, Jared Sadler, is the leader of the nearest emergency response team. When the police officer calls the emergency hotline, he learns that Jared and his team are at a school event for Jared's first love's son.
In my previous life, I asked my friend to drag Jared here to save Madison and Samuel. However, ashamed that her son had lost the competition, Jared's first love cut off all ties with him. On top of that, Jared was also fired from the emergency response team.
After Madison and Samuel were discharged from the hospital, Jared tied my friend and me up and threw us off a cliff, shouting, "I lost everything because of you!"
In this life, his first love's son wins the competition, but Jared will never laugh again.
Police sirens filled the air, and someone frantically knocked on my car window. "Miss, did you call the emergency hotline?"
I shuddered and stared blankly at the scene before me. After a while, I finally realized that I had been reborn.
In my previous life, my mother-in-law, Madison Caldwell, had left her scarf at home. She called me to fetch it for her, but the bus had left by the time I arrived.
So, she asked me to follow them in my car. Then, something happened to the vehicle in front of theirs, causing the bus to lose control and fall off the cliff.
I immediately called my husband, Jared Sadler, but he hung up in annoyance. I quickly called the emergency hotline, but I was instead informed that Jared had taken the whole team to attend a school event for his first love's son, Zachary Bradford.
The police officer's frantic voice brought me back to reality. I tightened my grip on my phone. I could still feel the bone-crushing pain from being thrown off the cliff.
When I remained silent, the police officer thought I was in shock, so he pulled out his phone and called the emergency hotline. However, he received the same response I had in my previous life.
Suddenly, my phone started ringing. It was a call from Madison.
"Kaitlyn, hurry up and save me and Samuel. My phone's running out of battery. Call Jared and ask him to save us!"
The police officer asked, "Is your family on the bus?"
"Yes, my mother-in-law and son are inside. My husband, Jared Sadler, is the leader of the nearest emergency response team."
"Then, hurry and call him! We'll try to contact other emergency response teams too."
I called Jared in front of the police officer. It took a long time before the call connected.
Then, a hateful voice came from the other end of the line. "Didn't I tell you not to call me? I'm cheering Zachary on here!"
I said anxiously, "The bus Madison and Samuel are on fell off a cliff. It's hanging from a tree right now. It won't be able to hold on for long, so come here and save them. Quick!"
Wendy Bradford, Jared's first love, snatched his phone away. "Kaitlyn, can't you take pity on me this once? Zachary doesn't have a father. It's rare for him to have people like Jay and his team cheering him on, so please don't tell Jay to leave now. I don't want to upset Zachary.
"I know our relationship always bothered you, but I swore that I wouldn't ruin your family. You don't need to make up an excuse like this to lure him away. I'll stop contacting him after this."
She even started sobbing halfway through.
Jared snatched the phone back and shouted angrily, "How could you use my mom and our son to lie to me like this? The more you act like this, the more I'll hate going back home. I'm warning you—don't bother me again today!"
