On the Mid-Autumn Festival, I Begged the Creditor to Be My Dad
For the Mid-Autumn Festival, Mom and Dad bought me mooncakes for the first time.
They were sickeningly sweet, yet it was the only sweetness I had tasted in seven years.
But after I finished eating them, I lost consciousness.
When I woke up, two men with tattooed arms were standing by my bed. One of them picked up a note from the bed and spat.
"The two broke-asses ran off and left this bad investment to cover their debt."
The other man kicked the foot of the bed in disgust.
"What's a seven-year-old little brat worth? She's so unlucky even selling her to some old bachelor in the backwoods as a child bride would be a bad omen!"
I didn't cry. I didn't make a scene.
As they stared in shock, I slowly climbed out of bed and tugged on one of the men's pant legs.
"Mister, I'm willing to go."
I didn't want to be abandoned again.
