Chapter 5
Jane walked alone in the last few days of training. On the last day, when Nick said goodbye to us, she walked up to Nick holding a bouquet of red roses.
Everyone was immersed in the joy of the end of training, except for her, who had a look of bitterness and resentment on her face.
"Nick, I can't bear to leave you."
With tears in her eyes, Jane stuffed the rose into Nick's arms, with a pitiful expression.
[I wanted to give you a watch worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, but no one agreed. Maybe I'm the only one who cherishes this time together.]
These words made the leader, who was presenting flowers on behalf of everyone, freeze in place.
Unexpectedly, Nick didn't accept it. He returned the flowers to Jane with a stern face and said seriously.
"They are all right to do this. If you really give me such an expensive gift, others will think that there is something wrong with my work style. Jane, you should reflect on yourself. You had so many problems when you were training, and now you have to be formalistic. This kind of behavior of yours will be criticized in the army!"
He even emphasized his tone at the end. Jane had tears on her cheeks and a look of disbelief on her face.
Someone in the team accidentally laughed out loud. And Jane couldn't bear the humiliation and ran away crying.
Later, this incident spread throughout the college. Jane became completely famous among the freshmen.
Saumel mentioned this specifically when he came to see me. When he found out that I lived in the same dormitory with the person involved, he was stunned for a moment and then laughed out loud.
"Can you show me your dormitory life live? It's so interesting!"
I rolled my eyes and called him a pervert.
He was still laughing with glee, and the spoon in his hand was shaking.
"You didn't let me watch the training before. It was a shame to miss such a famous scene..."
"Saumel?" A familiar voice sounded. I looked up and saw Jane with a shy face.
She stared at Saumel with such a burning gaze that she didn't notice me sitting opposite her at all.
Saumel frowned, looking unhappy.
"Who are you?"
It was obvious that Saumel was not very familiar with her.
Jane's face turned red, and she looked a little embarrassed. Until she saw me, her expression turned into anger.
"Eloise, why are you haunting me?"
Chapter 6
My family and the Murphy family had always been on good terms. Saumel and I had known each other since we were young, so we grew up together…
Saumel and I sat together to eat and chat. Anyone could see that we knew each other very well.
But I didn't know what was wrong with Jane, and she believed that I was the one who hooked up with Saumel.
She accused me harshly.
"It seems that what my mother said is right. You are wishful thinking about currying favor with the Murphy family. Saumel, don't be fooled by her."
With such a unique way of thinking, I didn't know how she got into college.
Saumel glanced at me, then looked at Jane in confusion, and asked doubtfully.
"What are you talking about? Eloise is my friend. Who are you?"
"Saumel..." Jane pursed her lips and looked at Saumel with red eyes as if she was looking at a scumbag.
Saumel became even more puzzled. And Jane looked hurt as if she had been let down.
It was not until Saumel became impatient and wanted to pull me away that she started to explain tearfully.
It turned out that the two had met once during the summer vacation. At that time, Jane and Wendy were at Saumel's cousin's house and ran into Saumel who came to pick up something.
Jane had always remembered Saumel since then.
At this moment, Saumel seemed to remember something, and a hint of disdain appeared in his eyes, and his tone was cold.
"I remember now. You are the daughter of my cousin's mistress."
Jane's face turned pale, and she explained hurriedly.
"No, my mother is not a mistress. She and Ralph are truly in love."
But Saumel had no interest in explaining to her. He looked at me and winked.
"Eloise, let's go."
Without saying a word, I got up and followed Saumel.
Even if I didn't look back, I could feel Jane's resentful gaze behind me.
Her dreams shattered.
