Chapter 2
“But Dr. Aiden has already checked me and prescribed some medication.” I protested as a frown fell on my brows.
“Dr. Nelson is more skilled than Dr. Aiden and he’s our family doctor.” Jacob muttered with a tight smile on his lips.
“Fine, whatever.” I muttered as I nodded even though I didn't want to see Dr. Nelson.
Dr. Aiden was kinder and always spoke softly while Dr. Nelson was arrogant and rude.
Dr. Nelson has more certificates in the medical field than the other pack doctors and I think that was why his ego was so big.
I was taken to the pack hospital by a kind woman after I lost consciousness due to the wolf fight. That was what the nurse told me.
Dr. Aiden broke the news of my miscarriage and explained that he had to pop my shoulder back into its socket as I had dislocated it.
I have never cried as much as I have cried on that day. I didn't even know I was pregnant, and now, I've lost the baby.
My phone beeped as a text came from Mr. Peter. I checked it and it read, [Send me your passport photograph, it's needed for the transfer form.]
I typed a reply, [Okay.]
As I was looking through my gallery to find my passport photograph, I heard Jacob's ask, “What are you doing on your phone?”
I barely spared him a glance to see that he was looking at me curiously.
So he was now paying attention to me?
“Why do you want to know, Jacob?” I asked him as I selected the photo and sent it to Mr. Peter.
I looked up at him when I noticed that he has gone quiet to see a shocked look on his face.
He stuttered a bit, “I- you- Well, I just want to know. Besides, I'm your mate, I have to know what you're doing.”
“I'm not doing much, so don't worry about it.” I muttered as I looked back at my phone just as it beeped.
It was from Mr. Peter and he replied, [Received.]
“Are you texting?” He asked me as he stared at me with confusion written all over his face.
“Nope.” I answered him absent-mindedly as I opened up Chrome to continue reading the comic book that I was reading online.
“Then what the hell are you doing?” He asked me again, sounding frustrated.
Before I could reply, his phone beeped, taking his attention away from me as he looked at the phone.
I felt relieved because I didn't want to him to know that I was transferring to another College which meant that I was leaving his pack and moving to another pack since it was closer to the new College.
A smile touched his lips as he typed a reply, but then he looked back at me and his smile disappeared, replaced by a frown.
He looked like he wanted to continue pestering me until I told him what I was doing, but then his phone started ringing.
As soon as he glanced at the screen of his phone, his smile reappeared and he answered the call as he headed down the hallway and towards the guest room.
He usually goes there to answer calls that he didn't want me to overhear.
“I miss you too, Lisa.” He murmured into the phone, but I heard him clearly with my heightened werewolf hearing.
He missed her? Wasn't he just at work with her? And he had the audacity to say that to her when knew that I would overhear!
“Our mate doesn't love us anymore.” My wolf, Willow, muttered in my head.
“Yeah, and that's why I'm done with him." I replied as a sigh escaped my lips.
"That's the right decision.” She replied, confidently.
"I think so too, but then I wonder, what if we don't find another mate?" I asked, my anxiousness showing in my voice.
"We will, don't worry.” She reassured me, and I found hope for a new mate.
My phone started ringing, taking my attention away from Willow. I glanced at the screen to see it was my friend, Amal, calling me.
I picked up the call and she rushed out, “Girl, you won't believe what I just saw on Facebook!"
"What happened? Spill!” I replied as I felt excited at hearing the latest gossip because I loved hearing about drama, especially Facebook drama, but then I heard her next words.
“Alpha Jacob just posted about Gamma Lisa, it's like he's in love with her or something." She answered me, sounding concerned.
The gossip wasn't so exciting when I realized that it has to do with my life.
I sighed and asked, “What does the post say?"
"Gamma Lisa is so patient. She wanted to go running with me, but I wanted to come home. I shouldn't have denied her. I apologize, Lisa. I'll take you up on your offer next time and try to be the best Alpha that you've ever seen.” Amal narrated then added, "I'll send you the link to the post.”
"How can he post about another woman and act like he's mated to her when he's mated to me?” I muttered as I felt pathetic.
I was the Luna, I deserve respect, but would I get it once the pack members saw the post?
“I know, right! He's such a jerk." She replied in a voice filled with anger.
“Listen, I need to go. We'll talk later, and don't forget to send me the link." I said as I tried not to cry.
"Okay, bye.” She said just before she hung up.
Her text came through instantly and I clicked on the link. I saw the post and noticed that he posted it using a different Facebook account.
My phone started ringing again and I saw that it was Mr. Peter.
I answered it and heard him say, “I've sent the transfer form to you. Have you received the email?"
“Not yet, but I'll check my email now. A delay occurs sometimes." I answered him.
“Alright." He replied and hung up.
I checked my email and saw the transfer form. I had to inform my College first thing tomorrow morning that I needed them to send my transcript to Standard West College.
Seeing Dr. Nelson would have to wait until I was done with that. I didn't have any classes tomorrow, so I would go in just to have them send the transcript.
Chapter 3
The next morning, I walked into the kitchen to get a quick breakfast when I saw Jacob frying an omelet.
There were three containers of noodles on top of the kitchen counter and he placed the omelet that he had fried into one of the containers.
“You're cooking?!" I asked him as my eyes widened in surprise at the sight before me.
"Yeah, and this is for you.” He muttered as he pushed one of the noodle containers towards me, but I refused to accept it.
“Sausages make me bloated. I've told you this before." I said in a tight voice as I felt anger bubble inside my chest.
"I had no idea." He replied with a frown on his brows.
“Even though I told you at least a hundred times in our six years of marriage?” I asked, feeling frustrated with him.
“Not a clue." He answered me as his frown deepened.
“I'm always mentioning it. Anyway, why don't you give me the noodles with the egg?" I suggested and stretched my hand towards the container.
However, he grabbed it and pulled it out of my reach which made me frown.
I glanced at him, about to ask why he did that when he said in an icy tone of voice, "Since you don't like sausages, don't eat it, but you can't have the one with the egg.”
He obviously made it for someone special. Was that special person Lisa?
He has never cooked for me before, yet he was here cooking up the perfect dish for another woman.
“Who did you make it for?" I couldn't help, but ask as I dreaded what the answer would be.
Before he could answer, his phone started ringing. He pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen.
His lips tugged up into a smile as he answered the call, “Hey.”
He listened to the caller's reply before saying, “Just come over, and we'll go together."
He hung up after a few seconds and stared at the phone with a lovey dovey look on his face.
Who called him? Could it be Lisa? Deep down inside me, I knew it was her. He only acted like he was in love when she was around.
I pulled out the lingerie that I found in our bedroom from my handbag and handed it to him.
He took it from me with a guilty look on his face.
“Was it Lisa that left behind her lingerie?” I asked him in a cold voice.
"I- you- it's not what it looks like." He explained as he pushed it into his briefcase.
“Then what does it look like?" I asked, shaking my head in disbelief.
Before he could reply, I added, “You know what, you don't need to answer that. Just tell Lisa to be more mindful."
“I'll let her know." He replied as his eyes bounced around the room nervously.
“Why don't I drop you off at school today?" He suggested as he gave me a strained smile.
It was shocking to hear him suggest that because he has never driven me to school before. However, he always drove Lisa shopping.
I always go to school in a taxi and return home the same way.
What made him change his mind? Was he trying to kiss up to me because I caught him cheating red-handed?
“Are you sure you want to do that?" I asked to see what he would say.
“Yeah, of course. Are you surprised that I suggested driving you to school?" He asked me as his brows knitted in a frown.
“Of course. You've never driven me to school before." I replied as I crossed my arms against my chest.
“Well, I'm-" He started, but he cut himself off.
His expression softened and a faint smile touched his lips.
I wondered what he was smiling about because he never smiled at me unless it was a strained one.
My question was answered when he said, “Lisa is five blocks away. She just mind linked me and I have to go meet her.”
Couldn't he let her come here and then they would go to work together, he had to go meet her?
I cleared my throat as he started towards the front door and asked, “What about me? You said that you'll drive me to school."
He paused, but he didn't turn around as he answered me, "Actually, I don't have time to drive you to school today. Maybe tomorrow.”
I felt my heart tremble in pain. How could he make another woman a priority over me?
“Don't you love me?" I asked him and watched as he grimaced like the aspect of loving me irritated him.
“Of course." He replied curtly then glanced back at me as he added, “I need to go right now ‘cause I don't want to keep Lisa waiting."
“Sure." I said in a whisper, knowing that he could hear me with his heightened werewolf hearing.
He bolted out of the house and with my heightened werewolf hearing, I heard him say, “Lisa, you're so fast. How did you reach here so soon?"
“Oh, I just couldn't wait to see you, so I jogged here." I heard Lisa answer him.
"I couldn't wait to see you either, dear Lisa." He murmured, but I heard him clearly.
He even called her dear, yet he never called me any pet names.
Did he care about her more than he cared about me?
The answer was clear.
“Why don't you stay at home and I'll come pick you up since your car is at the mechanic’s?" He suggested in a soft tone of voice.
“Yeah, sure." She answered him then laughed as she added, “You're the best, Alpha Jacob!"
"But you're the best!” He said with a chuckle.
"No, you're the best!” She protested and I felt angry at their betrayal.
They were acting like a loving couple when he was mated to me, and I was sure that they were having an affair.
Chapter 4
“I made you your favorite breakfast dish; noodles with eggs!” I heard Jacob say to Lisa.
So I was right, he did make it for her.
“Whoa! You're such a good Alpha! I bet it tastes as wonderful as it looks!” She exclaimed with a small giggle.
Cooking wasn't one of the duties of an Alpha, so she must have been trying to cover up their affair because she knew that I was home and I could hear them. But then, why would she want to hide their affair from me?
She left her lingerie here on purpose and I was sure that she wanted to gloat to me that Jacob cared about her more than he cared about me. Maybe she was covering it up because of the neighbors. That sounded more like her.
“You know exactly how to make me smile, dear." He murmured as he laughed.
She giggled as she replied, “That was what I was thinking about you!"
They were acting like they were perfect match, but the truth was that they weren’t fated mates.
I scoffed and decided that I didn't want to hear anymore, so I stopped paying attention to their chatter and made my way to the fridge.
Two apples sat in the middle of the almost empty fridge, so I grabbed one and started eating it.
I would have cooked something up, but I just didn't have enough time for that since school was starting in fifteen minutes and I needed to be early if I wanted them to give me my transcript soon.
The College that she was enrolled in, Harry Ford College was one of the best Colleges in their werewolf territory. However, the one that she was transferring to, Standard West College was better than it.
It ranked higher in grades; it had more students that graduated with first class grades than Harry Ford College.
These Colleges were built to teach werewolves their way of life including their roles in their packs.
There were also high schools that did the same thing, but it included western education; the human’s education system.
I used to live in Amsterdam, the state where Standard West College was located as my parents were in the Black Wolves pack which dominated Amsterdam, but I moved to Michigan and joined the Red wolves pack after I met Jacob.
After finishing my apple, I made my way out of the house and locked it.
Twenty minutes later, I was walking into the ICT unit. They were the ones in charge of processing of results and transcripts.
The process took way too long that it was already noon by the time that I walked out of the school with my transcript in hand.
As I was waiting for a taxi, I noticed Jacob sitting in a restaurant that has a glass wall and Lisa was sitting across from him.
Weren't they supposed to be working at the pack office? What were they doing eating at a restaurant?
Jacob stopped taking me out to eat two years ago and that was after Lisa took over as Gamma.
They weren't close before, but after her mother who was the previous Gamma passed away, she took over as Gamma and became close to Jacob.
What would the pack members say when they saw him with her at a restaurant? Did he want to humiliate me?
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I overheard two of our pack members talking.
Claire was staring at the Jacob and Lisa through the restaurant’s glass wall as she squealed, “Alpha Jacob has taken Gamma Lisa out for lunch, isn't he so romantic?”
The other girl, Diana frowned as she replied, "He's already mated to Luna Farrah, so no, it's not romantic.”
"Oh, come on! He hasn't been seen together with Luna Farrah in a while. Besides, I'm sure that you're secretly rooting for Gamma Lisa!" Claire exclaimed as excitement oozed from her every pore.
“No way!" Diana protested, shaking her head.
“I'm sure that Alpha Jacob will leave Luna Farrah and mark Gamma Lisa. I mean look at how close they are!" Claire pressed on.
She grinned as she added, “They're even going on dates! I saw them at the movies two nights ago."
Before Diana could reply, two other pack members walked towards them and one of them, Charlotte joined the conversation as she said, “Yeah, if Alpha Jacob wasn't interested in making her his mate, why would he waste his time and money taking her to expensive restaurants and movie theaters?!”
"Exactly my point, Charlotte!" Claire exclaimed as her grin widened.
The last girl, Ashley, glanced at Jacob and Lisa as she said, “I saw them swimming in wolf form at hotel 17’s swimming pool yesterday."
I felt my stomach churn as I tried to process what I heard.
So they were going swimming when they saw me in an injured state and drove off!
How could they be so heartless?
Only mates went swimming in wolf form. That meant that they wanted to show everyone that they were together.
I had thought that I would be happy with Jacob when I accepted him as my mate, but now, I realized that it wasn't possible.
Dizziness washed over me as I struggled to remain standing. I couldn't even concentrate on what the she-wolves were saying.
It wasn't until I stumbled and almost collapsed on the ground that they noticed me.
They all looked to side and they gasped in shock.
“Luna Farrah, are you okay?" Diana asked me as they came over and supported me.
“Don't worry, I'll be fine." I answered her as drew in a deep breath and let it out, willing the dizziness to go.
“You're obviously not fine. We're taking you to the pack hospital." Ashley said as Claire flagged down a taxi.
Just how pathetic did I look to them?
My mate was on a date with another she-wolf and I was here, trying to stop myself from collapsing.
Ten minutes later, I was led into our bedroom at the pack house by Dr. Nelson after he gave me a full werewolf check-up at the pack hospital.
