Chapter 2
Vincent got angry and slapped me with a dark face.
People in the office, who were discussing just now, all became silent.
The scene became awkward.
"Sandy, how dare you! Do you think it's funny to joke about my mother's life?"
"Yes, Mrs. James, how can you curse your mother-in-law? We all know that she treats you as her own daughter. If she heard what you said, she would be heartbroken."
"That's right. Mrs. James, you're going too far!"
"How can you do this?"
My ears were buzzing due to my high fever. I saw those mouths opening and closing in front of me. Even though I couldn't hear what they were saying clearly, I knew they were all blaming me.
Ignoring them, I yelled at Vincent, "I'm not kidding about her life, but you! She was worried about you and got into a car accident while delivering medicine to you. She died in the hospital."
Vincent was so angry that he asked the security guards to carry me out.
"Sandy, Mom went back to her hometown this morning. Go out in the rain and calm down. Stop causing trouble for me every day!"
The high fever made me feel weak all over, and facing the security guard, I had no resistance at all.
Since Vincent didn't believe me, no matter how much I said, it would be useless.
I was thrown into the heavy rain, and the company returned to its cheerful state before I arrived.
Inside and outside the transparent glass door, there were two different worlds, just like Vincent and me.
I looked away and let the rain cover me.
If it weren't for Jenny, I would have died in the flash flood ten years ago.
If I hadn't had a high fever, Jenny would be in her hometown chatting with my deceased father-in-law before his grave.
But now, she died in an accident.
Although Vincent treated me cruelly, I couldn't leave Jenny alone.
After dealing with Jenny's funeral, I felt as if many days had passed.
Three days later, I just got home from the hospital but found Vincent at home.
Seeing me, he loosened his tie and opened his arms, waiting for me to throw myself into his arms.
In the past, as long as he came home, I would excitedly jump into his arms and act like a spoiled child.
Such loving behavior was our habit before Vivian came into our lives.
After Vivian appeared, Vincent's love for me gradually changed.
Over the past year, I went from being unable to get used to his indifference to slowly getting over him, and now I was totally disappointed in him.
I looked at Vincent's expectant eyes coldly, not understanding what he meant.
Did he think that after throwing me into the rain without any dignity and ignoring me for three days, this embrace could make me forget the past and reconcile with him?
I felt my eyes sore.
After waiting for a few seconds and seeing me standing at the door motionless, Vincent walked to me with an aggrieved look and gently hugged me.
"Are you still angry about what happened that day? You don't even want your favorite hug anymore?
"That day, you hit and bit me in front of my employees. As a boss, I can't let you do whatever you want, right? It was just a game. You've hit me. It's time to calm down. You know my time is precious now. I don't have the time to coax you like I used to."
I pushed him away expressionlessly, feeling sorry for Jenny.
She lost her life because of Vincent's game.
A hug couldn't make me forgive him.
"For your so-called game, you killed your own mother. You don't need to coax me."
Hearing that I was still cursing his mother, Vincent showed a long face.
"Mom is old. Can you be kind and stop cursing her?"
After taking a look at the hemostatic patch on the back of my hand, he pulled me to sit on the sofa and opened a jewelry box.
"The HR said she saw you in the hospital, and then I realized you were sick that day. Why didn't you tell me you were sick? Otherwise, I wouldn't misunderstand you.
"If you said you were sick, I wouldn't allow Vivian to make fun of you or let the security guards throw you out in the rain."
I slapped his hand which was about to put the bracelet on me, and the bracelet fell to the ground and broke into pieces.
Chapter 3
If Vincent had listened to the voice message I sent him, he would have known that I told him that I was sick that morning.
But he habitually ignored my messages and would never listen to my voice messages.
When I had a fever, I was still hoping that he would drop everything and come back to stay with me like he used to do, or at least say some words of concern.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get any reply from him. I missed his call because I fell asleep, which led to Jenny’s death while delivering medicine for him.
"Sandy, this is the apology gift I bought for you. Why are you so ungrateful?
"My patience is limited. Don't push me too far!"
Vincent stood up and kicked the broken bracelet away angrily.
I knew this bracelet was one of the goods that Vivian purchased in bulk for him to give to customers.
The bracelet on Vivian's hand, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, was the gift he carefully selected.
A woman could tell whether a man loved her or not by the money he spent on her.
I smiled to myself at the broken bracelet.
"Let's get a divorce now."
Vincent was annoyed with me for breaking the bracelet, and when he heard about the divorce, he became even angrier.
"Sandy, am I too good-tempered, so you challenge my bottom line again and again?
"When I heard that you were sick, I turned down all the clients just to come back and apologize to you, but you treat me like this?
"I shouldn't have spoiled you. You deserve to be sick. It seems that the rainstorm that day didn't calm you down."
After saying that, he slammed the door and left angrily.
He didn't go home for three days. Why did he think that I should forgive him just because he gave a worthless gift and apologized to me?
In the past, when we quarreled over Vivian, he would slam the door and leave, leaving me alone to calm down.
When I was heartbroken and thinking about divorce, Jenny would protect me and comfort me. She begged me to understand Vincent because it was hard for him to work outside.
I loved Vincent and Jenny, so I could digest all the unhappiness by myself without Vincent doing anything, and then make peace with him again.
But only I knew that every quarrel made us farther and farther apart.
I didn't mention divorce because I was afraid that Jenny would be sad.
Now that Jenny died, it was time for me to end my relationship with Vincent.
I originally wanted to wait for him to come home to discuss the divorce because I wanted to end our marriage in a decent way.
But now it seemed that it was impossible for us to do that.
After I sent the divorce agreement that I had signed to his company, I packed my luggage and left.
I took Jenny's ashes back to her hometown. She said that if she passed away one day, she didn't want a funeral but just wanted to be buried together with his husband.
I signed a contract with a cemetery agency and chose a day to bury her.
I never expected that Jenny, who was going to come back to visit her husband, would come back to accompany him in this way.
Just as I placed Jenny's urn next to her husband, Vincent hurried over with Vivian.
Seeing that his father's grave had been dug up, he searched around and asked me viciously, "Where's my mom? Who allowed you to dig up my dad's grave?"
I pointed to the urn in the cemetery and said in a hoarse voice, "You think of your mother now?"
Taking a look at the two urns in the cemetery, Vincent scolded me with a dark face, "Sandy, give Vivian's ID card back to her. Why did you ask my mom to break into Vivian's house and take her ID card away? My mom treated you so well, but you tricked her into doing something bad and now you're digging up my dad's grave. Are you still a human?
"My family has never done anything wrong to you. Why are you so heartless?"
Chapter 4
Vincent's fingers were shaking violently in front of my eyes because of anger.
He was not rushing back to attend Jenny's funeral, nor was he bringing Vivian back to apologize to Jenny.
He killed his mother, and now he was slandering her for stealing things.
I felt sorry for Jenny.
"Vincent, your mother died because of you. Now you are even slandering her. How could you do this? Won't you feel guilty?"
Seeing that I was stubborn, Vincent grabbed my hair and asked me to look at his phone.
"Open your eyes wide. My mother is alive. It must be you who complained to her, so she ran to do bad things in Vivian's house.
"My mother is old. You can vent your anger on me. Why did you torture her?
"Because she stole Vivian's ID card, we missed our flight today and can't go meet the client. You made Vivian's efforts for several months in vain!"
Vincent was so angry that he grabbed my scalp hard.
I saw the video on his phone.
The surveillance camera at Vivian's home captured a woman who entered her home yesterday wrapped tightly. Not only did she make the house a mess, but she also stuffed a card into her arms when she left the study.
Judging from her figure, she did look a bit like Jenny, even wearing the same clothes as her.
But Jenny was cremated five days ago.
I knew Vivian hired this person to slander Jenny.
Vivian shook Vincent's arm with tears in her eyes. Every time she shook it, my scalp felt a sharp pain.
But I felt more pain in my heart because Vivian’s home was the apartment where Vincent and I lived when we were in love.
He said that if I was unhappy one day, I could go back there and stay for a while.
He said that the warm and sweet memories there could soothe all my unhappiness.
Later, I quarreled with him because of Vivian, but I found that the locks of the apartment had been changed.
Vincent said the apartment was rented out, so I gave up.
It turned out that Vivian lived there.
I noticed that Vincent’s clothes were hanging on the balcony.
"Mrs. James, stop it. If I have done anything wrong to you, please tell me and I will apologize to you. But you shouldn't torture Vincent's parents. Do you know how much effort Vincent and I put in to get this cooperation opportunity?
"Vincent works hard with us in the company every day while you rest at home. Are you not satisfied? Why do you let Vincent's effort in vain just because you want to target me?"
Vivian's words moved Vincent very much.
"Vivian, don't tell her about this. She won't understand my hard work and difficulties. I should have divorced her earlier so that my mother wouldn't have to bear a bad reputation. Now even my father can't rest in peace."
Vincent pointed at the urn in the cemetery and ordered me, "Sandy, take this box away and apologize to my dad!"
I looked at him with sympathy.
"These are your mother's ashes. Her last wish was to be buried with your father."
Vivian widened her eyes and added fuel to the fire.
"Vincent, didn't you say that besides loving you, Mrs. James loves your mother the most? Now it seems that she doesn't love your parents at all. Are you sure that she really loves you? Is she acting..."
Vincent got angry because of Vivian's words. As he pushed me down the stairs, he took out Jenny's urn and smashed it on the ground.
The ashes were scattered.
Regardless of the pain in my body, I rushed to grab Jenny's ashes.
"Vincent, drink some water to calm down. I don't blame your mother for taking my ID card. I can apply for a new one. I'll try to talk with the client later. The most urgent thing is to restore your father's grave to its original state. We shouldn't disturb him."
Vincent, with red eyes, took the water and poured it all over my face.
“No! No!”
My pleading seemed to give Vincent the pleasure of revenge. With a sneer, he blew all the ashes that I had picked up with great difficulty into the wind.
I couldn’t catch the ashes in the wind or hold up the ashes in the water.
I couldn't hold back my sadness any longer, with tears in my eyes.
"Jenny, I'm sorry... It's all my fault..."
If it weren't for my fever, such a kind person as Jenny wouldn't have ended up in such a miserable situation.
"Sandy, you are so vicious. You are still cursing Vincent's mother. This box of ashes is just flour, right? You wanted to put it in Vincent's father's grave to disturb his peace. He didn't offend you. How could you be so vicious..."
Hearing Vivian’s words, I wanted to tear her mouth apart.
I got up and knocked Vivian to the ground. I kept punching her face, but I couldn't vent my anger.
Vincent immediately pulled me away from Vivian. He pushed me in front of his father's tombstone and forced me to apologize.
My head hit the tombstone and started bleeding. As I struggled desperately, I heard a familiar voice.
"Stop!"
