Chapter 1

On a day of heavy rain, my husband's assistant Vivian Snow told me that he had an asthma attack, asking me to send medicine to the company immediately.

I was in bed with a high fever then, so my mother-in-law Jenny James answered the phone.

She didn't wake me up but went out in the rain to deliver the medicine, and she died in a car accident.

When the hospital notified me, Jenny was dying.

"Sandy, hurry up to deliver medicine to Vincent... He will feel uncomfortable if you are late..."

Jenny was still thinking about delivering medicine until her death.

I tried to hold back my sadness, but when I delivered the medicine to the company, I saw Vivian staying with my husband Vincent James. Sitting on Vincent, Vivian acted like a spoiled child.

"Vincent, if your wife doesn't come, I will be punished..."

Vincent scratched her nose lovingly.

"Don't worry. Even if it is the end of the world, she will come here to die."

I was furious and rushed to question him, "You're not sick?"

Vincent threw the medicine into the trash can with a cold face.

"You are the one who is sick. We are just playing games. Since the medicine is delivered, go back now. You are embarrassing me like this."

I was in great anger.

"Vincent! If you are not sick, why did you lie?

"To deliver the medicine to you, your mother..."

"Stop using my mom as a shield all the time!" Vincent interrupted me coldly and pushed me out the door with disgust.

He said, "The company got a big order today, and I'm celebrating with them. Aren't you embarrassed to come here like this?"

With red eyes, I slapped him.

"You bastard! Jenny..."

Covering his red and swollen face, Vincent was stunned.

This was the first time I embarrassed him in public and hit him.

Feeling embarrassed, he didn't even give me a chance to speak but dragged me out in a rage.

"Sandy, are you crazy? Don't cause trouble here. It's embarrassing."

I had no place to vent my anger, so I bit Vincent's hand which was holding me tightly.

Vivian immediately rushed over to pull me away.

"Mrs. James, please don't blame Vincent. It's all my fault. I was stupid and lost the game. He felt sorry for me, so he made fun of you. We didn't expect you to come here when it rained so heavily..."

She was apologizing to me, but every word she said was mocking me.

"Why did you joke about someone's life because you lost the game?"

As soon as I finished speaking, Vivian's eyes were filled with tears, but she smiled slightly and raised her chin to provoke me.

"Vincent, I told you not to joke with Mrs. James. Now she refuses to forgive me. What should I do?"

I was so angry that I raised my hand and wanted to hit Vivian's face.

But before my hand touched her, Vincent pushed me to the ground.

"Are you crazy? No one forced you to deliver the medicine. You became so embarrassed because you were stupid. Why do you blame us? It's just a game. Why are you so serious? Aren't you fine now? Why did you say we joked about someone's life?

"If you don't want to play, get out of here!"

After yelling at me, Vincent immediately cared for Vivian.

His tone was very gentle, which he never showed to me before. "Vivian, are you okay? Did she hit you?"

He examined Vivian's face over and over again as if he would cut me into pieces if he found any damage.

Vivian enjoyed it very much, but she pretended to be a frightened rabbit.

She hid in Vincent's arms and cried. "Vincent, this is all my fault. Don't blame Mrs. James... Let her beat me. As long as she can vent her anger, she can beat me in any way she wants. Perhaps this is the punishment I deserve... I accept it..."

Hearing Vivian's hypocritical words, Vincent thought I was making things difficult for Vivian on purpose.

He looked down at me, who was in a state of disgrace on the ground.

"Apologize to Vivian. Otherwise, I will divorce you!"

Vivian grabbed Vinvent's arm and shook her head in panic.

"Vincent, please don't do this. I'm fine. It's my fault for making Mrs. James feel uncomfortable. I was so stupid."

Vincent immediately gave me a vicious look.

"See? This is the difference between you and Vivian. You're petty all the time. You won't die if you are more generous."

After that, he turned to comfort Vivian, "It's just a game. No one can guarantee that he will win. Sandy is stupid. She always likes to do things that move herself. She thinks that this is love for me. If I was really sick, why didn't I call an ambulance?

"She deliberately came to the company to check on me. It's boring."

Hearing Vincent's words, the employees nodded in agreement and looked at me with contempt.

My embarrassment had become a sign of ulterior motives.

Everyone knew that since Vivian joined the company, my title of Mrs. James had become a joke.

To please Vincent, these people flattered the powerful and bullied the weak. They didn't feel sorry for me but just thought it was interesting to see me being trampled.

Vincent was happy to see this happen.

Thinking of Jenny still waiting for Vincent in the hospital, I suppressed all my emotions and told him calmly, "Vincent, your mother died in a car accident while delivering you medicine. Now go with me to see her for the last time, and then we will get divorced."

Chapter 2

Vincent got angry and slapped me with a dark face.

People in the office, who were discussing just now, all became silent.

The scene became awkward.

"Sandy, how dare you! Do you think it's funny to joke about my mother's life?"

"Yes, Mrs. James, how can you curse your mother-in-law? We all know that she treats you as her own daughter. If she heard what you said, she would be heartbroken."

"That's right. Mrs. James, you're going too far!"

"How can you do this?"

My ears were buzzing due to my high fever. I saw those mouths opening and closing in front of me. Even though I couldn't hear what they were saying clearly, I knew they were all blaming me.

Ignoring them, I yelled at Vincent, "I'm not kidding about her life, but you! She was worried about you and got into a car accident while delivering medicine to you. She died in the hospital."

Vincent was so angry that he asked the security guards to carry me out.

"Sandy, Mom went back to her hometown this morning. Go out in the rain and calm down. Stop causing trouble for me every day!"

The high fever made me feel weak all over, and facing the security guard, I had no resistance at all.

Since Vincent didn't believe me, no matter how much I said, it would be useless.

I was thrown into the heavy rain, and the company returned to its cheerful state before I arrived.

Inside and outside the transparent glass door, there were two different worlds, just like Vincent and me.

I looked away and let the rain cover me.

If it weren't for Jenny, I would have died in the flash flood ten years ago.

If I hadn't had a high fever, Jenny would be in her hometown chatting with my deceased father-in-law before his grave.

But now, she died in an accident.

Although Vincent treated me cruelly, I couldn't leave Jenny alone.

After dealing with Jenny's funeral, I felt as if many days had passed.

Three days later, I just got home from the hospital but found Vincent at home.

Seeing me, he loosened his tie and opened his arms, waiting for me to throw myself into his arms.

In the past, as long as he came home, I would excitedly jump into his arms and act like a spoiled child.

Such loving behavior was our habit before Vivian came into our lives.

After Vivian appeared, Vincent's love for me gradually changed.

Over the past year, I went from being unable to get used to his indifference to slowly getting over him, and now I was totally disappointed in him.

I looked at Vincent's expectant eyes coldly, not understanding what he meant.

Did he think that after throwing me into the rain without any dignity and ignoring me for three days, this embrace could make me forget the past and reconcile with him?

I felt my eyes sore.

After waiting for a few seconds and seeing me standing at the door motionless, Vincent walked to me with an aggrieved look and gently hugged me.

"Are you still angry about what happened that day? You don't even want your favorite hug anymore?

"That day, you hit and bit me in front of my employees. As a boss, I can't let you do whatever you want, right? It was just a game. You've hit me. It's time to calm down. You know my time is precious now. I don't have the time to coax you like I used to."

I pushed him away expressionlessly, feeling sorry for Jenny.

She lost her life because of Vincent's game.

A hug couldn't make me forgive him.

"For your so-called game, you killed your own mother. You don't need to coax me."

Hearing that I was still cursing his mother, Vincent showed a long face.

"Mom is old. Can you be kind and stop cursing her?"

After taking a look at the hemostatic patch on the back of my hand, he pulled me to sit on the sofa and opened a jewelry box.

"The HR said she saw you in the hospital, and then I realized you were sick that day. Why didn't you tell me you were sick? Otherwise, I wouldn't misunderstand you.

"If you said you were sick, I wouldn't allow Vivian to make fun of you or let the security guards throw you out in the rain."

I slapped his hand which was about to put the bracelet on me, and the bracelet fell to the ground and broke into pieces.

Chapter 3

If Vincent had listened to the voice message I sent him, he would have known that I told him that I was sick that morning.

But he habitually ignored my messages and would never listen to my voice messages.

When I had a fever, I was still hoping that he would drop everything and come back to stay with me like he used to do, or at least say some words of concern.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any reply from him. I missed his call because I fell asleep, which led to Jenny’s death while delivering medicine for him.

"Sandy, this is the apology gift I bought for you. Why are you so ungrateful?

"My patience is limited. Don't push me too far!"

Vincent stood up and kicked the broken bracelet away angrily.

I knew this bracelet was one of the goods that Vivian purchased in bulk for him to give to customers.

The bracelet on Vivian's hand, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, was the gift he carefully selected.

A woman could tell whether a man loved her or not by the money he spent on her.

I smiled to myself at the broken bracelet.

"Let's get a divorce now."

Vincent was annoyed with me for breaking the bracelet, and when he heard about the divorce, he became even angrier.

"Sandy, am I too good-tempered, so you challenge my bottom line again and again?

"When I heard that you were sick, I turned down all the clients just to come back and apologize to you, but you treat me like this?

"I shouldn't have spoiled you. You deserve to be sick. It seems that the rainstorm that day didn't calm you down."

After saying that, he slammed the door and left angrily.

He didn't go home for three days. Why did he think that I should forgive him just because he gave a worthless gift and apologized to me?

In the past, when we quarreled over Vivian, he would slam the door and leave, leaving me alone to calm down.

When I was heartbroken and thinking about divorce, Jenny would protect me and comfort me. She begged me to understand Vincent because it was hard for him to work outside.

I loved Vincent and Jenny, so I could digest all the unhappiness by myself without Vincent doing anything, and then make peace with him again.

But only I knew that every quarrel made us farther and farther apart.

I didn't mention divorce because I was afraid that Jenny would be sad.

Now that Jenny died, it was time for me to end my relationship with Vincent.

I originally wanted to wait for him to come home to discuss the divorce because I wanted to end our marriage in a decent way.

But now it seemed that it was impossible for us to do that.

After I sent the divorce agreement that I had signed to his company, I packed my luggage and left.

I took Jenny's ashes back to her hometown. She said that if she passed away one day, she didn't want a funeral but just wanted to be buried together with his husband.

I signed a contract with a cemetery agency and chose a day to bury her.

I never expected that Jenny, who was going to come back to visit her husband, would come back to accompany him in this way.

Just as I placed Jenny's urn next to her husband, Vincent hurried over with Vivian.

Seeing that his father's grave had been dug up, he searched around and asked me viciously, "Where's my mom? Who allowed you to dig up my dad's grave?"

I pointed to the urn in the cemetery and said in a hoarse voice, "You think of your mother now?"

Taking a look at the two urns in the cemetery, Vincent scolded me with a dark face, "Sandy, give Vivian's ID card back to her. Why did you ask my mom to break into Vivian's house and take her ID card away? My mom treated you so well, but you tricked her into doing something bad and now you're digging up my dad's grave. Are you still a human?

"My family has never done anything wrong to you. Why are you so heartless?"
