Chapter 2

Alice, Harvey, and I—back in college, the three of us were inseparable.

In those youthful days, Alice fell for Harvey first. But then, Harvey cheated on her, and she ended up with me.

She cried and swore she would never have anything to do with Harvey again, declaring that being with him was the biggest mistake of her life.

Her tears soaked my shoulder, her soft hair brushing my cheek. I could feel my heartbeat quicken, each beat faster than the last.

I said, "It's okay, Alice. I'll be good to you for life."

Alice lifted her face to look at me. "Bruce, will you be like him and cheat on me?"

I raised my hand and solemnly swore, "I promise I won't. If I ever cheat, may I be struck by a car!"

Alice laughed through her tears, quickly covering my mouth. "Don't say such things!"

She buried her head against my chest. "I'll love you for life too!"

I kept my promise, cutting off all contact with other women and focusing solely on Alice.

She slowly moved past the shadow of betrayal and gave her heart to me.

After graduation, Harvey went abroad, and Alice and I got married.

We started from scratch, facing hardships together, and built our own brand. By the second year of our marriage, we had finally made it.

As our company grew, Alice began to worry about me being tempted by other women.

To ease her worries, I voluntarily stepped back from the company's operations and handed over the reins to her.

But despite her past experience with betrayal, Alice got lost in the seductive world of success.

She started coming home late, talking endlessly about new interns at the company and comparing them to me.

She grew increasingly dissatisfied with me, criticizing my role as a homemaker.

She began secretly chatting and going out with the company's young interns.

When I found out, her only response was, "We haven't done anything, Bruce. We just had a meal. Can you stop being so paranoid?"

I suppressed my emotions, unable to let her go because I loved her too much. Then Harvey returned to the country, and I discovered that Alice was secretly seeing him.

When confronted, she cried and apologized, claiming it was merely curiosity about what Harvey had become and that she had no other intentions.

I believed her again.

But as a result, her behavior became increasingly reckless.

She even brought Harvey home and slept with him.

I remembered our wedding vows—"No matter how poor or wealthy, healthy or ill, we will never part and will remain united forever."

I had never doubted her sincerity back then; she truly loved me.

But now, it was clear she no longer felt that way.

In the early days of our company, she had talked about wanting a child, but as the company grew, she stopped mentioning it.

Harvey was different from those young interns—he was Alice's first love.

With a few sweet words, he managed to convince Alice to take off her wedding ring and throw it at me.

"Bruce," she said coldly, "I'm leaving. You deal with it."

Chapter 3

I refused to agree to Alice's demands.

I told her I couldn't possibly go through with a divorce.

In a fit of anger, she let Harvey move into our home.

His bags and belongings cluttered the living room, and he looked at me with a smirk.

"Man, Alice and I were together first. What's the point in dragging this out?"

I kicked over his stuff. "Get the hell out of my house!"

Harvey narrowed his eyes. "You're healed now, but you still want a fight?"

I was furious, and even though I knew I couldn't beat him, I lunged at him. Harvey rolled up his sleeves.

"Enough!" Alice interrupted. "Bruce, I told you, if you agree to the divorce, I'll make it worth your while. Why can't you just let it go?"

I looked at her. "Didn't you vow to love me forever?

"And how did you react when that bastard cheated on you?"

Alice's gaze faltered. "We were all young then. Harvey had his reasons. So, now that there's no love left, isn't it better to part ways amicably?"

"No love left?" I sneered. "You mean you don't love me anymore.

"You broke your vows. You cheated!"

Alice looked at me for a moment, then sighed, seeming resigned. "Bruce, how old are you? Still believing in vows?

"These are just things people say to children. You've been cooped up at home so long, you've lost touch with reality."

My voice trembled with rage. "The reason I stayed at home was to give you security. I stepped back from the business and handed it over to you.

"And this is how you repay me? Be honest with yourself, haven't you already moved on?"

Alice nodded, her gaze unflinching. "Yes, you're right. I won't lie to you—I stopped loving you a long time ago.

"Bruce, you really don't deserve me anymore."

Chapter 4

It felt like my heart was being slowly tortured.

When we were poor, Alice said we were the perfect match.

But now that we were successful, she said I was not good enough for her. I was not up to par with the young interns or Harvey.

I closed my eyes, trying to suppress my emotions.

"Alice, if you're willing to come back now, I'll pretend none of this ever happened."

Harvey blinked in surprise before bursting into laughter.

"Man, you're a real romantic fool!"

Alice looked at me as if I were crazy. "Bruce, have you lost your mind?

"I've already slept with Harvey, as you've seen. How could I go back?

"Are you upset about the settlement? If you think it's unfair, I'm willing to negotiate."

I felt a deep despair as memories of our past flashed before me.

Alice was once kind and beautiful, the girl I cherished above all.

She had promised to love me forever. My eyes welled up. I reached out to grab her hand. "Alice, don't leave me. Please?"

Alice's eyes darkened, and her voice was devoid of warmth. "Let go of me."

"Please, I don't want a divorce. I can't live without you."

I choked on my words, abandoning all pride. My only thought was that if Alice would come back and love me again, I would give up everything.

"I really can't live without you. Please, don't divorce me."

Alice looked at me coldly and shook off my hand. "Bruce, what I hate most is your pathetic, desperate attitude."
