Chapter 1
My wife's heart's desire and I were in car accidents at the same time.
I was hanging by a thread, fighting for my life, while he walked away with just a few scratches.
Without a moment's hesitation, my wife ditched me to go be with him.
She didn't even bother calling an ambulance for me.
In the end, I succumbed to my injuries, and he vanished with a bag full of money, leaving her behind in the chaos.
Weeks later, I found my wife kneeling at my grave, consumed by regret.
Desperate to reach me one last time, she swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, hoping for a chance to dream of us.
She spent her days lost in a deep slumber, but no matter how hard she tried, I was gone.
——
I caught my wife and her lover in bed together.
The moment I pushed the door open, their muffled, strained breaths were like a cruel echo in my ears.
My heart lurched. I didn't even bother changing my shoes as I raced to the bedroom and flung the door wide open.
There they were, Alice Lane and Harvey Dent, stark naked and tangled in the sheets. As soon as the door swung open, they saw me. Harvey didn't miss a beat; if anything, he redoubled his efforts.
Alice let out that familiar, piercing moan that cut through me like a knife.
Rage ignited inside me. I stormed to the bed, yanked Harvey off Alice, and threw a punch straight to his face. He staggered but didn't retaliate.
Alice, unfazed, calmly dressed herself.
"Why are you back so soon?" she asked coolly.
My heart was pounding in my chest. "So I came back early? Did I interrupt something?"
Alice glanced at me dismissively, then tossed Harvey his clothes. "Put these on."
Her gaze turned frosty as she looked at me. "Get out."
At that moment, I lunged forward, snatching the clothes from Harvey's hands and tossing them aside. Then I launched myself at him.
"You still dare to hit me?" he shouted.
Harvey's anger flared. As a boxing coach, he had held back earlier, but not now. He slammed me to the ground and pummeled me with relentless punches.
Blood streamed from my nose, but I was fueled by a furious determination. Even if I couldn't win, I would fight back.
For every ten blows he landed on me, I managed to get one in. By the time he finally stopped, my face was a mess of bruises.
Alice spoke up, her voice chillingly detached.
"Harvey, that's enough."
Harvey snorted and stepped away, letting me crawl out from under him.
Alice's cold gaze met mine.
"Can you leave now?"
I was too battered to speak. Harvey marched over, grabbed me by the collar, and tossed me out of the bedroom.
After what felt like an eternity, Harvey emerged fully dressed with Alice by his side. I sat on the couch, blood dripping steadily from my nose, too numb to care about wiping it away.
Alice approached and handed me a tissue.
Her hand, delicate and white, still bore our wedding ring.
Suppressing my pain, I asked, "Why? Why are you doing this to me?"
Alice tossed the tissue onto me. "Can't you see? I'm done with you. After all these years, I've realized I'm still in love with Harvey.
"Bruce, let's get a divorce."
Her words hit me like a thunderclap, leaving me momentarily stunned. "Alice, do you even hear yourself?"
She looked at me quietly before pulling a divorce agreement from her bag and handing it to me. "This is the divorce papers, already signed. Just add your signature, and I'll divide the assets fairly."
I grabbed the papers and ripped them into shreds. Standing up in a fury, I pointed at Harvey. "You're divorcing me for him? Don't forget how he treated you—he's nothing but a beast!"
The slap Alice delivered was sharp and painful, sending my head spinning. It hurt more than Harvey's beating; it felt like she had slapped my very soul.
Alice's voice, cold and indifferent, cut through the air. "Don't speak of Harvey that way. You're not worthy."
Chapter 2
Alice, Harvey, and I—back in college, the three of us were inseparable.
In those youthful days, Alice fell for Harvey first. But then, Harvey cheated on her, and she ended up with me.
She cried and swore she would never have anything to do with Harvey again, declaring that being with him was the biggest mistake of her life.
Her tears soaked my shoulder, her soft hair brushing my cheek. I could feel my heartbeat quicken, each beat faster than the last.
I said, "It's okay, Alice. I'll be good to you for life."
Alice lifted her face to look at me. "Bruce, will you be like him and cheat on me?"
I raised my hand and solemnly swore, "I promise I won't. If I ever cheat, may I be struck by a car!"
Alice laughed through her tears, quickly covering my mouth. "Don't say such things!"
She buried her head against my chest. "I'll love you for life too!"
I kept my promise, cutting off all contact with other women and focusing solely on Alice.
She slowly moved past the shadow of betrayal and gave her heart to me.
After graduation, Harvey went abroad, and Alice and I got married.
We started from scratch, facing hardships together, and built our own brand. By the second year of our marriage, we had finally made it.
As our company grew, Alice began to worry about me being tempted by other women.
To ease her worries, I voluntarily stepped back from the company's operations and handed over the reins to her.
But despite her past experience with betrayal, Alice got lost in the seductive world of success.
She started coming home late, talking endlessly about new interns at the company and comparing them to me.
She grew increasingly dissatisfied with me, criticizing my role as a homemaker.
She began secretly chatting and going out with the company's young interns.
When I found out, her only response was, "We haven't done anything, Bruce. We just had a meal. Can you stop being so paranoid?"
I suppressed my emotions, unable to let her go because I loved her too much. Then Harvey returned to the country, and I discovered that Alice was secretly seeing him.
When confronted, she cried and apologized, claiming it was merely curiosity about what Harvey had become and that she had no other intentions.
I believed her again.
But as a result, her behavior became increasingly reckless.
She even brought Harvey home and slept with him.
I remembered our wedding vows—"No matter how poor or wealthy, healthy or ill, we will never part and will remain united forever."
I had never doubted her sincerity back then; she truly loved me.
But now, it was clear she no longer felt that way.
In the early days of our company, she had talked about wanting a child, but as the company grew, she stopped mentioning it.
Harvey was different from those young interns—he was Alice's first love.
With a few sweet words, he managed to convince Alice to take off her wedding ring and throw it at me.
"Bruce," she said coldly, "I'm leaving. You deal with it."
Chapter 3
I refused to agree to Alice's demands.
I told her I couldn't possibly go through with a divorce.
In a fit of anger, she let Harvey move into our home.
His bags and belongings cluttered the living room, and he looked at me with a smirk.
"Man, Alice and I were together first. What's the point in dragging this out?"
I kicked over his stuff. "Get the hell out of my house!"
Harvey narrowed his eyes. "You're healed now, but you still want a fight?"
I was furious, and even though I knew I couldn't beat him, I lunged at him. Harvey rolled up his sleeves.
"Enough!" Alice interrupted. "Bruce, I told you, if you agree to the divorce, I'll make it worth your while. Why can't you just let it go?"
I looked at her. "Didn't you vow to love me forever?
"And how did you react when that bastard cheated on you?"
Alice's gaze faltered. "We were all young then. Harvey had his reasons. So, now that there's no love left, isn't it better to part ways amicably?"
"No love left?" I sneered. "You mean you don't love me anymore.
"You broke your vows. You cheated!"
Alice looked at me for a moment, then sighed, seeming resigned. "Bruce, how old are you? Still believing in vows?
"These are just things people say to children. You've been cooped up at home so long, you've lost touch with reality."
My voice trembled with rage. "The reason I stayed at home was to give you security. I stepped back from the business and handed it over to you.
"And this is how you repay me? Be honest with yourself, haven't you already moved on?"
Alice nodded, her gaze unflinching. "Yes, you're right. I won't lie to you—I stopped loving you a long time ago.
"Bruce, you really don't deserve me anymore."
