Chapter 3
Donald hurriedly left with just one sentence from Joanna. He panicked and didn't even have time to put on his coat properly.
Before leaving, he remembered to say to me, "I won't divorce. I'll go to the hospital to see Flora later. You calm down too."
I stared at his back and watched the door close, squatting down for a while.
In my arms was Flora's bunny doll, which was her favorite.
But I no longer had a daughter.
I took Flora's toys and clothes to the crematorium.
After Flora was cremated, the doctor called me and said there were still some things of Flora's that hadn't been taken, and asked me to go and get them.
I hung up the phone and went to the hospital. In my bag was Flora's urn. Every time I moved; I would touch it.
It was as if she was poking me gently through my belly when she hadn't been born yet.
I held back my tears and left the doctor's office after getting the things. Then I met Donald.
He carefully supported Joanna and gently admonished, "I told you not to eat ice things. Now you see what happened."
Joanna leaned against him and sweetly smiled, "I know I was wrong, Donald..."
They looked up and saw me.
I turned around and was stopped by Donald, "Ella, stop!"
I didn't stop, and he let go of Joanna and grabbed me, "I'm asking you, where did you transfer Flora to the hospital? Do you know how serious her condition is? You actually transferred her to another hospital just to spite me!"
I was stunned, and Joanna followed and softly said, "Ella, just now Donald wanted to go see Flora, but the doctor said Flora was gone. How could you do this? For your own selfishness?"
Before I could speak, she coughed twice and continued, "I caught a cold last night, so I wore Donald's clothes. Donald is here to accompany me for a medical check-up. You mustn't think too much, and don't cause trouble between us because of me."
Joanna's words were like a man who added fuel to the fire, not only for Donald, but also for me.
To be honest, her tactics were quite low-level, but Donald never saw through them.
Since Joanna returned, Donald and I have had countless arguments. I had been retreating step by step, only to let them take advantage.
I had long been disheartened. I endured it for Flora, but Flora couldn't even see her father before she died!
Looking at their true colors now, I just feel disgusted.
"It's okay, I won't overthink it or mind. After all, you love using other people's husbands, so you can use him in the future."
I said this and looked at Donald again, "Also, I have already contacted a lawyer. Since you refuse to divorce amicably, let's meet in court."
Chapter 4
Donald's face turned pale, and he asked me, "Are you threatening me?"
He snorted again, "Ella, let me tell you, If we're divorcing, you cannot take Flora. I will fight for custody!"
In his gaze, there was full of disdain, "Don't forget, you have been supported by me. The court won't give Flora to you!"
For a moment, I looked at Donald and felt particularly unfamiliar.
This was the man I had liked since I was a teenager. Back then, he would protect me and say, "With me, no one can hurt you!"
But now, he had turned the blade towards me.
But I was already full of wounds, and I didn't need another one.
"Then let's give it a try."
After marriage, I didn't go out to work. But it didn't mean I didn't have a job. I was an illustrator and I earned money by taking commissions. It was not worse than Donald!
Not to mention...
We didn't need to fight for custody at all, because my Flora was already dead.
I held the package, inside was Flora's urn, a small box containing the ashes of Flora.
Joanna hurriedly came over and held my hand seeing us confront each other angrily, saying, "Ella, we have nothing going on, please don't misunderstand..."
When she was speaking, she secretly pinched me. I instinctively pushed her away, and the next second, I saw Joanna fall to the ground.
Donald panicked immediately and pushed me out. I was pushed so suddenly that I couldn't stand steady, and the bag in my hand also fell out!
He only went to see Joanna, "Joanna, are you okay?"
I didn't look at them, but I felt a loud explosion in my head and stumbled to the ground to pick up the bag.
My bag hit the ground, and in that instant, I heard the sound of it breaking inside.
I was really worried, and I nervously opened the bag, but the box was broken.
The ashes inside spilled all over the bag.
I trembled all over, afraid that the ashes would spill out again, and subconsciously wanted to close the bag.
Then Donald walked over quickly and threw my bag into the trash can!
"Ella, why are you so vicious? Joanna is still sick, and you hit her!"
I suddenly widened my eyes and hurriedly went to pick up the bag from the trash can, but Donald pulled me back, "Apologize to Joanna!"
The next second, I slapped Donald's face and pointed at him with hatred, "Donald, you beast!"
That slap was not enough, so I pushed him hard and picked up the bag from the trash can, only to see the ashes scattered.
I cried so hard that I couldn't catch my breath, trying to piece together the broken box and tightly zip up the bag.
Donald wanted to scold me, but he saw the broken small box inside.
That was Flora's urn...
