Chapter 1 of After Losing His Daughter, He Finally Regretted it!

My daughter Jasmine Lloyd accidentally broke a cup that Melanie Reed, my husband Tucker Lloyd's secretary, had given him.

Tucker lost it, blamed Jasmine for being a troublemaker, and blamed me for not raising her right. So, he shipped us off to some remote mountains to "straighten up."

While we were struggling, Tucker and Melanie jetted off on an overseas trip.

Jasmine suddenly fell critically ill. I, exhausted and battered, carried her as we escaped the mountains, but I couldn't save her life.

I was devastated, cried my eyes out.

Meanwhile, Melanie shared some cozy seaside photos with Tucker in the company group chat.

She even added a caption: [The one who really cares about you would like to travel the world with you anytime you want.]

I angrily texted Tucker: [You don't deserve to be called a father or a husband. Let's get divorced.]

Tucker just accused me of being jealous and making a fuss over nothing.

When he finally heard about Jasmine's death and saw the bruises and hickeys, he was overwhelmed with regret, his eyes reddening.

Then, Tucker went mad.

Tucker phoned me. "Shirley, where are you? I'm coming to take you home."

"Screw you!" I hung up. Clutching my daughter's urn, I painfully crawled up the mountain, kneeling with every step, to pray.

I hoped that once Jasmine's ashes were settled in the temple, she might be reborn into a better family, free from the suffering she endured in this life.

I had given up on Tucker a long time ago, even though I once loved him to the moon and back.

Ever since we were kids, I was like his shadow, following him everywhere, always matching his pace.

Back then, my love for Tucker was pure and too cautious. I was so afraid that confessing would end even our friendship that I never did. Worse, I even helped him pursue Melanie.

Seeing Tucker with Melanie was painful, yet I had to plaster on a smile.

Then, Melanie vanished one day, cutting off all contact with Tucker.

I took that chance to confess my love to Tucker, and he accepted.

Tucker and I were together for three years before we tied the knot. We'd been married for eight years now and had a lovely daughter, Jasmine.

I loved him carefully, always fearing he might leave.

Tucker was always swamped with work, so I tried not to bother him. I kept quiet about being sick and didn't even ask him to come to the hospital when I was in labor.

He often came home late because of business dinners. And I'd wait up, preparing warm soup and giving him foot massages.

I even learned to cook whatever he liked.

My love was still too naive. I thought that if I gave enough, Tucker would love me more.

But I was only fooling myself.

To Tucker, I was just a compliant, convenient stand-in, a comfort for his loneliness.

When Melanie came back into the picture, Tucker fell for her again and even hired her as his secretary.

I never thought that a mere cup from Melanie would mean more to him than Jasmine and me.

Tucker dumped us with Melanie's cousin, Logan Kane, to watch over us.

Jasmine was thirsty, and Logan wouldn't give her any water.

If Jasmine cried, Logan would slap her and force her to eat raw mushrooms he picked randomly.

I tried to stop him, but Logan was ruthless. He tied me up and abused me.

Worse, he only gave Jasmine and me a bit of oatmeal at night.

Eventually, Jasmine fell ill.

I even knelt before Logan, begging him to let us see a doctor, but he refused.

After a torturous week, Jasmine grew weaker in my arms.

Finally, I found a chance to escape when Logan was drunk, but it was too late.

Jasmine died on the way.

Holding Jasmine's body, I cried out to the heavens.

I hated Logan. I hated Melanie. I hated Tucker.

With those thoughts, I approached the temple. I looked up and couldn't believe my eyes. There was Melanie, arm in arm with Tucker at the entrance.

"Tucker, I hear this temple really works wonders. It should bless Stella, help her find peace," Melanie said.

The Stella she mentioned was actually her pet hamster, which Tucker was quite fond of.

"Absolutely," Tucker replied softly. But then he saw me, and his warm look instantly turned ice cold, as if he'd seen an enemy.

"Glad to see you've stopped your theatrics," he said, squinting slightly, his voice dripping with arrogance. He obviously still thought of me as the simp I once was.

Tucker assumed I'd climbed all this way to make peace with him.

"Screw you!" My voice was still cold. Even glancing at Tucker made me sick.

"Wait!" Melanie quickly let go of Tucker's arm, playing peacemaker as she stepped closer to explain, "My Stella just died. I've been kind of depressed, so Tucker's here to support me.

Don't overthink it."

Her words, veiled with a taunt, seemed to mock me lightly for not being as significant to Tucker as she was.

"I hope he's there for you when you die," I snapped back coldly.

"What did you say?" Tucker's face darkened. "Shirley, can you stop this nonsense? Melanie's really hurting, and you deliberately say things like that?

Apologize to Melanie, now!"

I just muttered "scumbags" under my breath. Then I shouldered past Tucker, and continued my ritual of walking and kneeling as I entered the temple.

I needed to place the urn before noon to ensure Jasmine received the temple's blessings.

So, I had no time to argue with Tucker.

I was pretty sure the police would be visiting Tucker and Melanie soon enough.

Tucker was shocked to see me lash out like that. He'd never seen me stand up to him before.

Usually, I was meek around him, quietly crying and never daring to walk away in anger.

Tucker caught up with me, baffled. "Is it really such a big deal to get this mad?

I did it for Jasmine's good. She needs discipline."

But it was clear he was just sucking up to Melanie. What a hypocrite.

I ignored him and continued my ritual of walking and kneeling, my fists clenched tight.

Tucker seemed taken aback for a moment. Then he lowered his voice and tried to sound more soothing. "I promise I won't send you and Jasmine back to the mountains again. Whatever you want, I'll buy it.

Doesn't Jasmine love that limited edition mermaid doll? I'll have someone get it right away. I'll make sure she's happy."

His words only deepened my grief.

If Tucker had any real concern for Jasmine and me, he would have noticed something was off.

I thought, "Doesn't he wonder why I'm here alone, kneeling and moving forward?

Why didn't I bring Jasmine?

Why am I holding an urn? And why does it have SpongeBob on it, Jasmine's favorite?"

Tucker didn't notice any of that.

Now, his world was filled only with Melanie.

"It's too late for everything. You have no right to talk about Jasmine, and you certainly don't deserve to be my husband.

Let's set a time to sign the divorce papers," I said coldly, tears in my eyes, bowing deeply before the deity.

Jasmine's death was Tucker's fault. I could never forgive him.

"Shirley..." Tucker frowned, putting on a show as he stood beside me, making a phone call. "Logan, buy that limited edition mermaid doll for Jasmine and bring her over."

I thought to myself, "Huh, he really trusts Logan."
