Chapter 5
Daisy's POV
We all stood up and ran to the direction which it came from, some students were already there. I look to the side and see Taylor crying and Tiffany consoling her. I start to wonder what happened but didn't have to wonder for long before some of her other friends ask her what was wrong.
She starts sobbing louder "It was a snake, it crawled right over my foot into that tiny bush, I hate this place". When she notices Hunter, she starts to sob louder than before and moves towards Hunter who was standing beside me.
"Baby, you will protect me right" she says while trying to snuggle into Hunter. An annoyed look crosses Hunter's face and he rolls his eyes at her dramatics. "You wouldn't let anything happen to me, my hero". I bite my tongue to keep from bursting into laughter.
"What happened here?" Mr. Fiddles asks as he approaches us with another teacher, Miss Rose. Miss Rose is the nicest teacher I've ever known.
"A snake crawled over Taylor's leg, do you hear that, a snake! A freaking snake!! Did you bring us out here to kill us or something? My skin feels like an old woman's, my nails are broken and there is no network here. What do you expect us to do here for a whole week, hunt fish and live like savages?" Stephanie screeches. Stephanie is the meanest girl in Gale high school and that's even a nice way to put it. The teachers have to tolerate her behavior because apparently, they get special favors from her mother.
"Stephanie!!" Miss Rose scolds. Interesting, it seems she is the only teacher who doesn't tolerate Stephanie's behavior.
"We're sorry Miss Stephanie, but that isn't possible, we've had this place checked by experts and they have confirmed that no harmful creatures live here." Mr. Fiddles says and then turns to one of the hired men
"Go and check that out" He says pointing to the little bush Taylor said the snake crawled into.
The men quickly scurry to check it out and after a while one of them shouted "found it". We all perk up to see what all the fuss was about only to see the man holding up a big caterpillar with a stick.
"See! I told you it was a very large snake. Don't bring that thing near me" Taylor screams and tries to hide behind Hunter but he avoids her.
This time I couldn't hold it in any longer and I burst into laughter. Taylor and Stephanie send me a mean glare and I glare at them back. Realizing that this was a waste of time, my friends and I move back to our tree but Hunter and his friends follow us again. It was then that I noticed Dean, and as usual turn into a dork.
This time, Dean sits beside me and my heart goes into overdrive.
"Hi Daisy" He says then chuckles "This is the fourth time I've said that to you today" He says scratching the back of his neck. "So, what's up?" he asks trying to start a conversation.
I blink at him once, twice and then force out an awkward laugh and mumble "nothing, nothing's up". It's always been like this for me, I'm never able to talk like a normal confident girl in the presence of any boy I have a crush on.
"Hey! Daisy, the tents are ready". Chloe calls out to me.
I stand up and start to move towards my friends who were already walking away, when Dean calls my name. I turn to him and give him a questioning look.
"I was just wondering if you would like to hang out tonight with me and my friends, you can bring your friends".
Really?
Eeeekk, YESSS, if you'd be there.
"Sure, why not?" I say with calmness that I wasn't feeling. He gives me a heartbreaking smile and my heart jumps to my throat.
We go our separate ways; he goes to his friends while I go to mine. When I get to my friends, I meet Chloe and Bloom squealing and jumping in ecstasy. "What's with the sudden jumpiness and happiness? It's too much, it's almost blinding me" I ask them both.
"The guys invited us to hang out with them tonight; you know they never invite anybody to hang out with them" Bloom gushes. They both squeal and I have to cover my ears.
"I was just about to tell you the same thing, Dean invited us to hang out with him and his friends tonight." I say with a wide grin. Chloe and Bloom stop squealing and freeze.
"Dean? Dean Harper?" Chloe asks and I nod.
"The same Dean you've been crushing on since junior year? He's totally asking you out. It's kinda weird because we're in the middle of the woods, but if that's how he rolls then no problem. We've got to go shopping for perfect dresses but we are so far from the city. It's not like we can make dresses from leaves, or maybe we can. That will make us look natural right? You know, with leave dresses, twig heels and bamboo handbags. Where will he even....." Bloom begins to rant. Very pointlessly, may I add.
"Bloom"
"Bloom"
"Earth to Bloom" Chloe and I say trying to snap Bloom out of it. Luckily, it worked.
"Your future boyfriend has a lot coming for him, I hope he knows what he's getting into". Chloe teases Bloom.
"Shut up" Bloom replies.
We then chat for a while before I decide to go and unpack
"I've got to go to my tent and make sure Hunter doesn't paint my clothes blue or anything" I say.
"Oh well, we might as well go and arrange our things too" they say together and then laugh about saying the same thing as they walk towards their tent. I wish I was one of them right now because they are partners and I'd pick being partners with a frog than being partners with Hunter.
The tents set up for us were no ordinary tents, they were luxury tents made like real rooms. I take a deep breath then enter the tent, I look around and notice that Hunter was asleep on his own bed.
Ah, this is the perfect time to have my revenge for that horrible picture. I tip toe to my bag and find a permanent marker. I tip toe back to the side of his bed and raise my hand to start drawing on his stupidly handsome face. He stirs and I freeze, he soon settles back down and I move the marker towards his face to start my masterpiece when he suddenly snatches my hand and draws me to him. He rolls over and holds both of my hands above my head, I look up to meet his eyes and see him smirking.
"Did you think I didn't see you enter? Even if I didn't, your footsteps while tip toeing is as loud as a hippo's doing a tap dance" He says.
Dammit, my friends have always told me I'd never survive a spy mission because the words stealth and Daisy don't go in the same sentence.
"Shut up and get off me" I squirm trying to make him release me.
"I don't know, I rather like this position very much" He says as his face comes closer to mine.
"What are you doing" I whisper in a shaky voice. He doesn't answer but his face continues to move closer to mine. I shut my eyes tight as my heart beat sky rockets.
"You'd never be able to sneak up on me Daisy" He whispers with a deep voice in my ear.
He then pulls back and releases me. I quickly jump out of his bed. He stands up too and towers over me still smirking.
"Why were you so nervous, did you think I was going to do something as silly as kiss you?"
He says as if the thought of kissing me was a joke. For a second back there, yes, I'd really thought he was going to kiss me. The alarming fact was I wasn't all that repulsed by the thought.
Chapter 6
Hunter's POV
"Why were you so nervous, did you think I was going do something as silly as kiss you?" I ask her.
Her face scrunches up in distaste and if I wasn't confident of myself, my ego would have taken a strong hit. This girl really is bad for my ego; I mean girls go crazy to get a chance to be with me. Not trying to sound conceited or anything, I'm just stating facts.
"N-nnoo, definitely not". She stammers then hurriedly walks to her side of the tent and start unpacking absent mindedly.
Ughh, I have since given up trying to understand girls and I'm not about to start again so I settle back on my bed and drop my right hand over my eyes pretending to sleep.
I watch her unpack with the corner of my eyes and find myself mesmerized as she walks around her side of the tent arranging her things. I'm not blind, I've always considered Daisy pretty but right now, I find it damn near impossible to take my eyes off her. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. Earlier, when she was on my bed, under me, it took all the will power I had - and it wasn't even that much to begin with - not to take her plump lips for a kiss. I'm dying to know how she tastes, would it be citrus like her scent that has been driving me crazy all day? Damn it! Why am I thinking about kissing Daisy?
Clearly, it's been too long since I've gotten laid. It's been two weeks. Two whole fucking weeks! I remember the reason why I haven't had time for any girl lately and I feel like throwing a lamp against a wall. For the past two weeks, my father has been pestering me to agree to an arranged marriage deal he's negotiating with the owner of a company he wants to merge with.
My father isn't a heartless business man that has no time for his children like the media portrays a lot of businessmen but when he makes a decision that he thinks will be best for his chain of companies, nothing – not even 30 angels accompanied by 50 devils - can change his mind.
He tried to change my mind by saying we could eventually fall in love like he and my mother did and that we don't have to get married immediately but we have be engaged and wait till we both finish college and I take over the company before getting married.
Hell no, I'm only 18. Who does that to his child? I don't even know the girl in question, probably a spoiled brat with a knack for buying out a department store every time she goes shopping. This camp was a means of escape from everything, home, responsibility and even school. I push all worries to the back of my mind and slowly drift off to sleep.
It feels like I've just closed my eyes when I hear my friends' loud laughter outside the tent. "Get your ass out of that tent before I come in there and kick it for you. You've been asleep for four whole hours" Blake hollers. I groan and glare at the tent entrance, that guy couldn't be quiet even if his life depended on it.
I throw on a leather pant, a white t-shirt, and my jacket and look around the tent for Daisy but she was nowhere to be found. I shrug and go out to meet my friends.
I join my friends and notice Dean and Daisy afar off by the tree we sat under earlier sitting beside each other and talking. Daisy suddenly throws her head back and laughs. She never laughs like that with me, in fact I can't remember a time when she has ever smiled genuinely at me. I fight down the urge to snatch Daisy away and deck my best friend. Fuck it, what's wrong with me? Why would I ever wanna deck my best friend because of Daisy? I shake my head. I'm definitely finding a girl to be with tonight......
After eating dinner, a huge camp fire was made and everybody gathered there to hang out. My friends and I had made plans to hang out in a secluded part of the camp ground so we gather there. We start chatting about nothing in particular when we hear footsteps approaching.
"Must be the girls" Mark says.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you guys, I also invited Stephanie, Tiffany, Taylor and a couple other girls to hang out with us" Daniel adds sheepishly.
Taylor? Not Taylor again. I can't really tell Taylor to fuck off either because we had been friends during our childhood but when we entered high-school; the Taylor I knew vanished without a trace and became preppy Taylor with nothing in her head except air. I've hooked up with her a couple of times because damn it, I'm a guy and she's hot, but she has some sick notions about a fairy tale ending. Sometimes I wonder where the old nice and kind Taylor went.
Daisy and her friends appear around the corner and I go instantly sit up straight. She was wearing a red dress that ends mid thigh, low heels and minimal make up, but stood out among her friends. She looks around us sitting in a circle around our little camp fire and when her gaze lands on Dean, she smiles and moves to sit beside him. I let out an involuntary growl and Mark who was sitting beside me gave me a 'what the hell' look. I ignore him and focus on Dean that was sitting too close to Daisy in my opinion even though they were about a lot of inches apart. Her friends sit between the other guys.
Five minutes later, the other girls arrive and sit down. Taylor and Tiffany sit on both of my side. Stephanie sits beside Blake and sends Bloom - a friend of Daisy that was sitting on Blake's other side - a mean glare.
The other girls – Rain, Cassie and Ruby sit between Tyler and Daniel. I snatch a beer from the corner the beer carton was stacked. Our original plan was to get wasted tonight and it seems that plan was still holding because all the guys have already consumed at least two cans of beer.
"Let's play spin the bottle" Daniel says.
"We don't have a bottle" Tyler reminds him.
"Truth or dare then" he tries again and We all murmur our agreement.
"Blake, you go first, truth or dare?" Daniel asks.
"Dare" Blake answers confidently. Daniel smirks mischievously
"I dare you to twerk to a whole song from the beginning to the end" he says.
"Hell, no" Blake screeches like a girl. Daniel smirks harder making me worry for his mouth, has he never heard of face freeze?
"A dare is a dare". He says
Blake sighs and stands up, he points to Daniel "give me music, asshole". Daniel obliges and plays Nicki Minaj – Anaconda, Blake begins to twerk and we all fall into fits of laughter. I take out my phone from my pocket and begin to record Blake's twerking moment ignoring the cracked screen. I need to get a new phone once I return home.
This will be my blackmail ammunition against Blake for years to come.
After Blake finishes twerking, we continue to play truth or dare for a while and finally, Dean's turn came. "Truth or Dare?" Mark asks Dean.
"Dare" He answers.
Mark smirks at Dean "I dare you to kiss Daisy, tongue and all"
What?
Oh, Hell no.
Chapter 7
Hunter's POV
Daisy jerks and her eyes widen in shock while Dean smirks and turns to Daisy who was as still as a statue. His eyes twinkle with amusement and maybe a hint of interest. It better not be!
I don't even know why I'm so agitated about this. It's just plain ol' annoying, infuriating, ego assassin, beautiful, smart, sexy.........Daisy. Here I go again.
I might not like daisy but I know I'm uncomfortable with this dare so it isn't gonna happen. I'll make sure of it.
Meanwhile, Dean cups Daisy's face and smiles at her but she doesn't smile back since she was still frozen. I try to catch Mark's eyes and when he finally looks at me, I mouth "change the dare, you owe me" to him. He really does owe me; I saved his ass last week.
If Mark was surprised by my request, he didn't show it. He quickly remedies the situation.
"Dean wait, I have an even better dare for you" He says stopping Dean whose face was about 3 inches apart from Daisy's. Daisy face turns into one of disappointment.
Dean pulls away from Daisy and stare quizzically at Mark. "Bring it on, I'm not afraid of anything" He says.
"Umm.....let's see" Mark says while trying to think of a new dare. "I dare you to sneak into Mr. Fiddles' tent and steal one of his..." Mark shudders in horror "......boxers" he completes. "And hang it on that tree by the cleared space" he hastily adds.
Dean smirks, stands up and walks in the direction of Mr. Fiddles' tent. I've got to give it to him though, he didn't hesitate to follow the dare .We wait for a while and continue playing the game and 10 minutes later, Dean reappears.
"All done" he says obviously delighted with himself. I can't wait to see Mr. Fiddles' reaction tomorrow.
Dean settles back down and asks Daisy "so, truth or dare?"
"Truth" she answers.
"Awww, you're no fun" Dean teases her.
"Okay, do you have anyone you're currently seeing" He asks her.
Why on earth would he ask her that? What's it to him? But I also want to know the answer to that question so I stare waiting for her answer.
She blushes, actually blushes!
"No, I don't" she answers shaking her head. I relax my shoulders that I didn't realize were tense before.
"Cool" dean says casually.
"Truth or Dare" She asks Chloe.
"Dare" Chloe answers instantly.
"I dare you to.....................................

Daisy's POV
5 hours later, everybody was pretty wasted except me. We decided to call it a day and go back to our tents. I notice Bloom's gaze following Blake who was holding Stephanie by the waist and leading her to his tent. I lay a comforting hand on her shoulder and she turns and gives me a sad drunken smile. I walk my friends to their tent to make sure any douche wouldn't be able to take advantage of them in their drunken stupor.
After tucking them in, I walk back to my tent. I enter the tent and immediately turn on the battery operated lamp to get rid of the darkness because I'm terribly scared of darkness. Childish to you maybe, but it's a phobia to me. Darkness always brings back memories I've buried long ago.
Snap out of it, Daisy.
I shake my head to clear my thoughts.
With the faint glow of the lamp, I notice Hunter sprawled on his bed with one leg hanging off.
I scoff, typical.
I go to the side of his bed and wave one hand in front of his face to make sure he was asleep. He doesn't stir so I take it as an affirmative. I return to my side of the tent to prepare for bed. I take off my dress leaving me only in my underwear and put on the camisole I always wore to bed. I then unhook and remove my bra from under the camisole
Finally lying in bed, waiting for sleep to consume me; all events of the day come crashing into my head. It was indeed a very long day. My thoughts go back to that moment Dean was about to kiss me and I berate myself for wishing it was another boy -a boy with blond hair and hazel eyes and the ability to annoy me to the end of the earth- who was in Dean's place.
Slowly, I start to drift off to sleep when the lamp suddenly goes off. I start to panic. "Hunter" I call out.
"What?" He responds, his voice groggy from the little sleep he got.
"Turn on the lamp" I tell him.
"I can't sleep with it on". He says.
Sweat breaks out on my skin in fear. "Please" I plead.
"No" he answers.
I start to shake in terror, memories come crashing in my head and I start to hyperventilate.
"Daisy!" someone says but I'm lost in my own head. Horrible memories of the past Starr filling my head. "Daisy!" the person calls again. "Daisy!" the person calls out to me while shaking me. I snap out of it to see Hunter squatting beside my bed, his hands on my shoulders probably from shaking me and trying to snap me out of my own head.
"What's wrong?" he asks. I stare at him blankly.
His eyes widen in realization. "You are scared of the dark" He states and I nod.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know" he says looking genuinely sorry. "I'll leave the lamp on for you" he says while at the same time turning on the lamp.
He returns to his bed and I watch him as he lies down and turn to face me. We stare at each other until I finally drift off to sleep.
******************************************************************
Light hits my face and I wake up from my dreamless but nonetheless peaceful sleep. I sit up and run a hand through my blonde hair to tame it a little. My gaze moves to Hunter's bed to see that he was no longer in it, in fact he wasn't even in the tent. I stand up and make to get ready for the day. I gather my toiletries and clothes and go to the pink trailer parked in the cleared space of the camping ground. The blue trailer was on the opposite side of the camping ground. The trailers were our bathrooms for the camping trip.
As you've already guessed, the pink one was for the girls while the blue was for the boys. After taking my bath and dressing up, I apply make-up. Just as I begin brushing my hair, memories of last night rear up and I smile at Hunter's actions. He was really considerate last night, sweet even.
Even though he said he couldn't sleep with the lights on, he still left them on for me. I wonder if I had been wrong about him all along. Who knows?
