Chapter 1 of Wife's Revenge: Exposing His Family Lies

The sound of the front door opening sent a jolt through my body. Five years. Five long years since I'd heard that sound accompanied by Sebastian's footsteps.

"Alison, I'm home," he called out, his voice eerily casual, as if he'd merely been on a business trip that lasted a week rather than a disappearance that stretched half a decade.

I stepped into the entryway, Oaklee clutching my hand, her small fingers trembling slightly. My heart pounded against my ribs as I rounded the corner.

The man standing in my foyer was both familiar and foreign. Sebastian looked older, his face leaner, but his eyes held that same calculating gleam I'd grown to recognize before he left. But it wasn't his appearance that made my breath catch painfully in my throat.

It was the woman beside him. Petite, dark-haired, with those distinctive wide brown eyes I'd seen in countless school photographs over the years.

"Cassandra?" The name slipped from my lips before I could stop it.

She flinched, her gaze dropping to the floor. "Hello, Mrs. Carroll."

"Porter," I corrected automatically, my mind reeling. "Cassandra Porter. I sponsored you from elementary through college."

Sebastian's arm slid around Cassandra's waist with practiced ease. "Alison, I'd like you to meet my partner, Cassandra, and our son, Griffin."

Partner. The word hit me like a physical blow.

A small boy, perhaps three years old, peeked out from behind Cassandra's legs. He had Sebastian's eyes.

"Griffin, say hello to your stepmother," Sebastian said, his tone light, as if introducing me to a new neighbor rather than the woman he'd betrayed me with.

Before I could respond, Mrs. West appeared from the kitchen, her face lighting up at the sight of them.

"Sebastian! You're finally here!" She rushed forward, embracing her son briefly before turning her attention to Cassandra and Griffin. "And you must be Cassandra and little Griffin! Welcome, welcome!"

I watched in disbelief as my mother-in-law—who had never once embraced Oaklee or me with such enthusiasm—enveloped them both in warm hugs. She completely ignored our presence, as if Oaklee and I were ghosts in our own home.

"Come, come," Mrs. West ushered them toward the dining room. "I've prepared dinner. We have so much to discuss."

---

The dining room felt suffocating as we sat around the table. Mrs. West had set places for Sebastian, Cassandra, and Griffin at one end, while Oaklee and I were relegated to the opposite side, physically mirroring the emotional divide that had just been created.

"I've been thinking," Sebastian said, cutting into his roast beef with precision, "we'll need to convert Oaklee's room for Griffin. It's the most suitable space for a nursery."

I froze, fork suspended midair. "Excuse me?"

"Oh, don't worry," Mrs. West interjected before Sebastian could respond. "We'll move Oaklee's things to the study. It's not like she needs a proper bedroom anymore."

"Not like she needs—" I began, but Sebastian cut me off.

"Alison, be reasonable. Griffin is younger, and he needs the space more. Besides, Cassandra will be taking over household management, so we need to make the necessary adjustments."

Cassandra at least had the decency to look uncomfortable. "I'm happy to discuss arrangements," she murmured, her voice barely audible.

"Discuss what arrangements?" I asked, setting my fork down with deliberate care. "This is still my house."

Sebastian's eyes met mine across the table, cold and dismissive. "Is it? I've been paying the mortgage for years while you've been living here rent-free."

"Rent-free?" The accusation stung. "I've maintained this house, raised our daughter, managed everything while you were gone—"

"Alison," Mrs. West interrupted sharply. "The real family needs to be prioritized now. Sebastian has brought home his actual family."

Actual family. The words echoed in my head as I looked at Oaklee's confused face beside me.

---

Later that night, I cornered Sebastian in his old study.

"Five years," I said, my voice steadier than I felt. "Five years of silence, and then you waltz back in with them?"

Sebastian leaned against the desk, arms crossed. "What did you expect, Alison? That I'd come crawling back to you?"

"I expected you to honor your vows. I expected you to be a father to Oaklee."

A cruel smile twisted his lips. "Oaklee seems fine without me. Besides, you drove me away with your controlling behavior."

"Controlling?" I echoed incredulously.

"Cassandra showed me what real love feels like," he continued, as if I hadn't spoken. "She doesn't try to change me or dictate my every move."

"And yet you left her alone for five years too," I pointed out.

His expression hardened. "That's different. I had obligations."

"What obligations? To your other women? Your other children?" The words tasted bitter in my mouth.

"Alison," he said coldly, "you need to accept reality. Things change. People change."

"And what reality is that? That you've been lying to me for years? That you destroyed our marriage for a girl I helped put through school?"

Sebastian's eyes flickered briefly with something that might have been guilt before hardening again. "I'm not discussing this anymore. It's done."
