Chapter 1
The billionaire tycoon, Victor Hart was mid-speech at his fifty-fifth birthday gala when his lawyer, Richard, appeared at his side.
His face was pale and his expression unusually serious.
"Victor," Richard murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "I need to speak with you privately."
Victor's smile faltered. "Can it wait?"
"No." Richard's voice was firm. "It cannot."
Victor studied his lawyer's face for a moment. Richard had been with him for over thirty years, and he had never looked like this before.
He excused himself from the stage, offering a smooth apology to the crowd, and he followed Richard into a private study off the main ballroom.
The door clicked shut behind them, muffling the sounds of the party.
"What is so urgent?" Victor asked, his voice laced with irritation.
Richard reached into his briefcase and he pulled out a manila envelope. He handed it to Victor without a word.
Victor opened it and he pulled out a DNA report. He scanned the first few lines, his brow furrowing with confusion.
"What is this?" He asked.
Richard took a breath. "Victor, the daughter you have believed was yours for the past twenty-two years... she is not your biological daughter."
Victor stared at him. "What are you talking about?"
"Two baby girls were accidentally switched at birth," Richard explained. "Your real daughter was raised by another family. We have been searching for years, and we finally identified her through the DNA database."
Victor's hands tightened around the report. "That is impossible. I raised my daughter Liana… some even say we look quite alike."
"The DNA does not lie, Victor." Richard's voice was gentle. "I am sorry. Your DNA with Liana doesn’t match.”
Victor was quiet for a long moment, his mind reeling. He thought about the girl he had raised… that he had given everything to.
She was not his.
How the hell was this possible?
"Where is she?" he asked finally, his voice rough. "My real daughter. Where is she?"
Richard handed him a second sheet of paper. "Her name is Mia. She lives at this address."
Victor stared at the name and the address, and something in his expression changed. The confusion and disbelief turned into determination.
He turned toward the door.
"Victor, the gala…"
"I do not care about the gala." His voice was sharp. "My real daughter has been lost for twenty-two years. I have finally found her… nothing else matters."
---
Somewhere across the town, Mia was standing in the doorway of the living room, her heart pounding so hard she could barely breathe.
She had walked in expecting to find her boyfriend, Adrian, waiting for her like he always did.
Instead, she found him with Selena... her sister. They were pressed together on the couch, Selena's hand resting on Adrian's chest, her lips still wet from kissing him.
What the hell?
Her body was shaking so hard she thought she would faint.
"Adrian?" Mia's voice came out confused, barely above a whisper. "What... what are you doing?"
Adrian looked up at her and he did not even have the decency to look ashamed.
He just sighed, like she was interrupting something inconveniently.
"Mia." He stood up, adjusting his shirt. "Look, I know how this looks but I was going to tell you."
"Tell me what?" Her voice was shaking now, her hands trembling. "Tell me what, Adrian?"
He glanced at Selena, then back at Mia. "I am in love with Selena. I have been in love with her for a while. I am sorry you had to find out like this."
The words hit her like a physical blow. She felt her knees go weak, the room tilting beneath her feet.
What the fuck?
"How long?" she asked, her voice cracking. "How long have you been together?"
Selena stood up slowly, and she wrapped her arm around Adrian's waist, a smug smile playing on her lips. "Months, actually. He has been mine for exactly six months and three weeks.”
They had been together for months….
While she was cooking him dinner, planning their future and thinking he was the one, he had been sleeping with her sister.
Mia turned to her step mother, Margaret, who was standing in the corner with an expression of annoyance.
She was not even pretending to care, not that Mia expected it.
"Mom," Mia said, her voice cracking. "Say something. Please."
Margaret rolled her eyes. "What do you want me to say, Mia? That you should stop being so dramatic? It is just a man. Get over it."
Mia stared at her. "Get over it?" She could barely form words. "He was my boyfriend and she is my sister! They have been cheating me for months. And you want me to just... get over it?"
Margaret crossed her arms. "If you have enough energy to cry over a useless man then you have enough energy to work. The garage needs cleaning. All twenty cars outside need to be washed."
Mia opened her mouth to argue, but the words died in her throat. There was no point… there never was. She had learned that years ago.
It’s either she did the work or received the beating of her life.
She turned and she walked out of the room, her eyes burning with unshed tears and her heart hurting so badly she thought she might collapse.
---
Outside, Mia grabbed a bucket and a sponge and she started washing the cars. Her hands were shaking so badly she could barely hold the sponge.
Her vision was blurred with tears and she kept scrubbing and working… trying to push the pain down.
Gosh, she wanted to scream. She wanted to break something… preferably all of their freaking heads.
But suddenly, a line of expensive black vehicles pulled up to the house.
Mia looked up, confused. She watched as an elegantly dressed older man stepped out of the first car.
He was tall and distinguished, and his eyes were fixed on her which made her heart skip.
He walked toward her.
Mia straightened up, her heart pounding. "Excuse me," she said. "Can I help you?"
The man stopped in front of her and he looked at her for a long moment, his expression softening.
"Are you Mia?" he asked gently.
She nodded slowly, confused. "Yes... who are you?"
The man smiled. "My name is Victor Hart."
Mia's eyes widened as her mouth fell open. "Wait... THE Victor Hart? The billionaire?"
He was the richest man in the country and her mother’s boss… what was he doing here?
He nodded. "Yes."
Mia blinked, completely lost. "Why would someone like you come to a house like this?"
Victor's smile faded, replaced by something softer. He looked at her like she was the most precious thing he had ever seen.
"Sweetheart," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Congratulations. You just became a multibillionaire."
Mia stared at him. "What?"
Victor reached out and he took her hand. "You are my daughter, Mia. You were switched at birth. I finally found you after twenty-two years."
Chapter 2
Chapte
Mia stared at Victor Hart and she laughed... a nervous, disbelieving laugh.
"Okay," she said, shaking her head. "This is a joke, right? Someone put you up to this?"
Victor's expression did not change. He just looked at her with warm eyes. "It is not a joke, Mia."
"Twenty-two years?" Her voice cracked. "How could you possibly be sure I am your daughter after twenty-two years?"
Someone behind him which she found to be Victor's lawyer stepped forward, pulling out a folder from his briefcase.
“The hospital discovered that two baby girls were switched on the night you were born," he explained. “Victor has been searching for his missing daughter for years. The recent investigation led us to you through the DNA database."
He handed her the report. Mia stared at it, her hands trembling and her eyes scanning the words she could barely process.
She looked up and saw Margaret standing in front of her.
She expected her to be shocked or even give some kind of reaction. But Margaret was strangely quiet... her face pale and her lips pressed into a thin line.
Victor noticed too. He turned to her, his eyes narrowing. "You knew?"
Margaret's head snapped up. "What? No. I have no idea what you are talking about."
But her voice was too quick and defensive. Mia felt something cold settle in her stomach.
Everything she had ever been told about her birth... about who she was and about where she came from... it was all falling apart.
Victor turned back to Mia, his voice softening. "I did not come here to take you away by force, Mia. I just want to take my daughter home, if you would like that."
Mia hesitated. She had spent her entire life believing Margaret was her mother even though she abused her.
But now, this stranger was standing in front of her, offering her everything she had ever wanted.
"I..." She shook her head. "I do not know what to say."
"You do not have to call me Dad today," Victor said gently. "You do not even have to forgive me for not finding you sooner. Just give me the chance to get to know you."
Something in her chest cracked open.
Before she could answer, the front door swung open and Adrian and Selena stepped outside. Adrian's face went pale the moment he recognized Victor.
"What?" He stopped in his tracks. "Victor Hart? Why are you standing in our driveway?"
Victor looked at him, his expression confused. "And you are?"
Adrian straightened up, trying to compose himself. "Adrian. Mia's boyfriend."
Victor's eyes flickered to Mia's tear-stained face, to the cleaning cloth still hanging from her hand.
"Is that so?" Victor asked.
Mia looked down at herself, suddenly aware of how she must look to him. Her clothes were dirty and her hair was a mess… even her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
"He was my boyfriend," she spat. "Until I walked in on him with my sister."
Adrian's eyes widened. "Mia..."
"They have been together for months," Mia continued. "I just found out."
Adrian's expression shifted. He stepped toward her, his voice suddenly desperate. "Mia, I was angry. I did not mean what I said but we can fix this. We do not have to break up."
This two faced bastard…
Selena stepped forward, her arms crossed. "Adrian, we already decided..."
"Shut up!" He turned on her, then back to Mia. "Please, Mia, you know you fucking need me. I made a mistake. Give me another chance."
“Is this how you speak to my daughter?” Victor growled, glaring menacingly at Adrian.
“Daughter?” Selena’s eyes widened.
“Yes,” Margaret scoffed. “Apparently she was switched at birth.”
Mia looked at Adrian for a long moment. She thought about all the nights she had sacrificed everything to just see him even if it was a few minutes.
All the love she had poured into someone who had never really loved her back.
"You did not want me a few minutes ago," she hissed.
Adrian swallowed. "I was wrong."
"You were not wrong." She shook her head. "You chose her. You made your choice, Adrian."
Selena stepped forward angrily. "Do not act so superior just because some billionaire claims you are his daughter..."
Victor's voice cut through the air. "He is not claiming anything. She is my daughter."
Victor turned to Mia, his expression softening. "You do not belong in this house anymore, Mia. You do not have to clean anyone's garage or cars ever again."
Margaret stepped forward, suddenly desperate. "Wait. I raised her for twenty-two years. I deserve to be..."
"Deserve what?" Victor's eyes were cold as he turned to her. "Why was my daughter treated like a servant while your other daughter lives like a princess?"
Margaret opened her mouth but no words came out. She had no answer.
Victor turned back to Mia and he held out his hand.
"Come home with me."
---
Adrian stood outside, watching her leave. He watched as she climbed into Victor's car, watched as the convoy of expensive black vehicles pulled away from the house.
The girl he had just rejected was now the heiress to one of the largest fortunes in the world.
And he had let her go.
He wanted to throw himself over a cliff for being so darn stupid!
Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The car pulled through the gates and Mia felt her breath catch in her throat.
The mansion was enormous with perfectly manicured gardens.
Mia couldn’t help but notice that it looked like something out of a movie. It seemed like a place she had only ever dreamed of seeing.
She pinched herself, thinking perhaps she was in a dream, but she never woke up.
This was real…
Victor watched her reaction with a soft smile as the car came to a stop. "Welcome home, Mia."
She turned to him, her voice barely above a whisper. "This is... this is where you live?"
"This is where we live," he corrected gently. "This is your home now."
Mia stepped out of the car and she stood in front of the entrance, her heart pounding in her chest.
She felt overwhelmed and completely out of place.
Victor walked up beside her. "You do not have to feel like a stranger here, Mia. This is where you belong."
She swallowed hard. "Does your family know about me? I mean... do they know I am coming?"
Victor nodded. "Well, your mother Elena has been deceased for some years now, but your brother is in there right now."
Mia's stomach flipped. She never got the chance to meet her real mother… and that hurt.
But at least she has a big brother now and a dad. She was grateful for that. She took a breath and then she walked inside.
---
The sitting room was big and filled with comfortable furniture.
Ethan, Mia’s older brother, was already standing with his hands in his pockets.
He was tall and broad-shouldered, with the same dark hair and sharp jawline as Victor.
When he saw her, he smiled but then in a fraction of a second, it got weird and he looked at her like he was trying to figure out what to say.
"So," he said finally, a small smile tugging at his lips. "You are my sister."
Mia nodded, feeling just as awkward. "I guess I am."
Ethan laughed softly. "Sorry. I do not really know what to say. I just found out I have a sister I never knew existed, and now you are standing in front of me."
Mia smiled despite herself. "I just found out I have a brother I never knew existed, so... we are even."
Ethan's smile widened. "Fair enough."
They sat down and Ethan started asking questions. He asked about her life, about where she grew up and what she liked to do.
Mia told him about growing up with Margaret and how different her life had been.
Ethan's expression shifted as she spoke. His eyes darkened with anger.
"She made you clean the house?" he asked, his voice enraged. "She made you wash the cars?"
Mia nodded. "Every day. And Selena... she was treated like a princess. She never had to lift a finger."
Ethan looked at Victor, his jaw tight. "She treated my sister like a servant?"
Victor's face was calm, but Mia could see the anger simmering beneath the surface. "I know," he said quietly. "And I promise you, Mia. Nobody will ever treat you that way again."
Mia felt something warm spread through her chest.
Suddenly, Victor smiled like he had remembered something. He reached into his jacket and he pulled out an old photograph.
Then he handed it to Mia.
She looked at it and her breath caught. It was a picture of Victor with a woman she did not recognize, and in the woman's arms was a tiny baby.
"This is your mother," Victor said softly. "Elena raised both Ethan and his sister for a beautiful seven years before she passed on."
Mia stared at the photograph, her eyes burning. "I wish I could have met her.”
Victor nodded. "I wish that too, Mia. She would have been a great mum to you.”
Mia felt tears spill down her cheeks. "God, why did you not find me sooner?"
Victor's voice was rough with emotion. "I am sorry about this. It never occurred to me that this may have happened."
She looked at him and at the pain in his eyes.
If maybe they have found out, then she couldn’t have a bad experience with Selena and Margaret.
She would have had a normal childhood. It made her sad knowing she could never get the childhood she wanted.
Victor reached for her hand. "I am not expecting you to suddenly call me Dad, Mia. I am not expecting you to pretend twenty-two years have not passed. I just... I want the chance to make up for all the years we lost."
Mia could not hold it in anymore. She broke down, sobbing, and Victor pulled her into his arms.
"I am sorry," she whispered against his shoulder. "I am sorry I did not find you sooner."
"Shhh." He held her tighter. "You have nothing to be sorry for. You are here now… and that l is all that matters."
Ethan cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to lighten the mood.
"So," he said, grinning. "You are the youngest Hart heiress now. How does it feel to suddenly be one of the richest people in the country?"
Mia laughed through her tears. "Honestly? I do not feel like an heiress at all."
Ethan snorted. "You will learn quickly. Our father has a serious problem with buying people ridiculous gifts. You will probably wake up tomorrow with a new car in the driveway."
Victor shot him a look. "Ethan. Stop embarrassing me."
Mia laughed, the sound surprising her.
Afterward, Ethan offered to show her around the mansion.
He took her through the huge living room with its tall windows and then he took her through the library, which was filled with books from floor to ceiling.
He took her through the gardens, where there were thousands of flowers.
Then he took her to the rooms in the house and made jokes, teasing her about which ones she should avoid because their father would probably try to give her all of them.
Mia listened and laughed, but eventually, she told him she was overwhelmed and needed a little time alone.
Ethan nodded, understanding. "Take as much time as you need. I will find you later."
He left her alone.
---
Mia got tired of waiting for morning to rise, at one point.
So instead, she wandered downstairs because she wanted some water. Her mind was still spinning and trying to process everything that had happened in the span of a single day.
She went from being cheated on by her boyfriend and ordered around by her adoptive mother to discovering she was the biological daughter of a billionaire.
She could barely breathe.
She pushed open the kitchen door and she stopped.
A tall, handsome man was standing near the counter, shirtless with his hair slightly damp as though he had just finished working out.
His back was to her, and she could see the muscles rippling beneath his skin.
Mia froze.
"Um," she said awkwardly. “Excuse me??"
He turned around.
His eyes swept over her face in surprise, and then a slow grin spread across his lips.
He was gorgeous... like he was actually the most beautiful man she had ever seen.
"Well, well," he said, his voice low. "Who the hell is this beauty?"
