Chapter 4
Suddenly, Jenny's eyes lit up as if she found a new excuse.
"I did think that the skincare product was rather off. But I'm just too simple-minded, and I didn't think much of it. Who would've known that you would place such dangerous experimental products in the dorm, even disguising them as luxury products? You were clearly trying to mislead me to take the wrong product, right?"
This instantly gained sympathy from most of the people there. Some exclaimed and called me scheming and a terrifying monster.
Especially our two other roommates, who were Jenny's lackeys. They stood up for Jenny fiercely.
"Yes! Jenny is just an innocent girl. She's not like you, who is so petty and vengeful!"
"Eve, instead of researching things that benefit people, you insist on creating toxic garbage to harm others. Are you trying to harm society?"
"Just because you were jealous of Jenny, you set her up and disfigured her. Who knows what you'll do one day if you're unhappy with another person? Would you 'accidentally' harm them again? What a manipulative scholar you are!"
Those words scared everyone so much that they immediately retreated a few steps back, trying to create some distance between them and me.
The police officers grew tense as well, highly on guard and prepared to seize me.
"Eve, what other dangerous materials do you have? Hand them over right now!"
Tony, playing the generous boyfriend that he was, pulled Jenny into his arms, saying to Richard, "Dad, this evil woman is literally a terrorist! She might go mad and poison us all to death!"
Richard shot to his feet, urgently calling out to one of the staff members, sweat beading on his forehead.
"Quickly head to the labs and destroy all of Eve's experiment data and materials!"
I looked horrified.
That was my life's work. Four years of relentless research. Detailed data. Every single experiment.
All of it was stored in the lab.
If it were destroyed, everything I worked for would be reduced to nothing.
But the students, thrilled by the chaos, raised their hands in support. They livestreamed, snapped photos, and flooded the internet with updates.
In the confusion, a phone was shoved in front of me.
Sweeping a glance, I saw that my case already went viral, trending at the top.

Mixed in were Jenny's fans, exaggerating the story and twisting the facts, spreading before-and-after photos of her ruined face to stir sympathy and outrage.
The internet tore me apart.
Some even declared, from behind their screens, that I deserved the death penalty.
"Jenny's such a poor girl! We should never let an evil person like this into society! They will only harm more people!"
At that point, the police officers would no longer listen to my explanation. I resisted with all my might, but they overpowered me and dragged me to the door.
What sank my heart the most was the staff member who was already running off to the lab to destroy my work.
Right in the nick of time, someone kicked the door to the meeting room wide open.
A group of white-haired old professors barged in angrily.
"Who dares destroy the life-saving medicine developed by our top student?!"
