Chapter 2
[Pfft! She always looks like she's better than everyone else and is focused only on her studies. Who knew she was privately so jealous and malicious!]
When Jenny's lackeys saw the other comments accusing me, they fanned the flames by saying how I usually liked to make things difficult for Jenny, not letting her stream in the room.
It went on to the point where they started spreading rumors about me pining for Jenny's wealthy boyfriend. How I poisoned Jenny and disfigured her because I couldn't get him.
I sneered.
Ever since Jenny became an influencer, she was skipping classes and giving up on her education. Her live streams were so disruptive that I couldn't study or do my homework.
Was I in any way wrong for just reminding her a couple of times?
As for her brainless boyfriend, who only got into our school because his father was the chairman, how could I possibly fall for him?
At that thought, I logged into my account and sent out a statement.
[All of this has nothing to do with me! If there are any further slanderous rumors, I'll save them as evidence and report to the police!]
This somehow provoked everyone even more.
[I remember Eve Green spends all year in the lab extracting materials, right? She definitely has the means to poison someone!]
[Reporting to the police? You should be arrested first!]
I was so furious that I chuckled before hitting back.
[Those accusing me of poisoning, show actual evidence. If not, just shut up!]
At that, the students started to cool down a little. Some even started standing up for me.
[All those who accused Eve before even getting to the bottom of this are the embarrassment of Queenstown University!]
[Exactly! Everyone, just calm down! If she's innocent, then everyone here is an accomplice to injustice!]
Others pointed out that tomorrow was the graduation defense and that this wasn't the time to lose their heads.
[If you're arrested and miss out on your defense, you'll have to repeat another semester!]
However, all the reasonable advice was thrown out of the window by Jenny's boyfriend, Tony Jenson.
He wrote, [I'll reward anyone five million for evidence that Eve poisoned Jenny.]
The entire forum was lit ablaze.
[Damn! Five million! I wouldn't mind even staying on for three more semesters!]
[Tony Jenson in his usual element! How dominating and protective of Jenny he is! Jenny is one lucky girl to have a boyfriend like him!]
I could not help but roll my eyes.
What a clown.
Evidence? As if they could find any.
I closed the forum and returned to my thesis, adding the final data and patiently waiting for the defense the next day.
I believe that the truth will come to light once everyone sees my thesis.
However, right before I was about to head up on stage to present my thesis, Jenny, accompanied by a few police officers, barged in.
"Ms. Eve Green. Your roommate has accused you of poisoning her skincare products. Please cooperate with our investigation."
Jenny's face was wrapped in bandages, only showing her eyes, visibly in pain.
The other students and professors who saw her in such a miserable state showed her pity.
I chuckled and projected my thesis presentation on the big screen.
"Everyone, calm down. You'll understand once you see my thesis."
Over a hundred pages—
Detailing how, since freshman year, I extracted and analyzed toxic components from several herbs and recombined them.
Also, their long-term effect on healthy skin was a slow, continuous destruction that could lie dormant for up to four years, until reaching a critical point, before erupting into total decay and collapse.
And on the final pages, the supplementary evidence was unmistakable: screenshots of Jenny's face from the live stream!
At that moment, not just the students, but even the professors were stunned speechless.
Some angrily slammed the table in fury.
"Eve Green, how could you be so evil! You're a disgrace to Queenstown University!"
"Isn't your thesis a confession? You're the one who caused Jenny's disfigurement! You'll go to prison!"
"I propose that, in addition to criminal responsibility, the university should reject this thesis, expel her, and publicly denounce her!"
Chapter 3
Students all around me erupted in excitement, jumping to their feet and applauding.
Satisfaction flickered in Jenny's eyes as she looked at me smugly and provocatively.
Tony, who was by her side, went forward and called out to his father, Richard Jenson, the chairman of the university.
He said to Richard, "Dad, of course, Eve Green should be punished. But because of her, Jenny can't even attend her graduation defense. Shouldn't she be compensated for it?"
Looking at their exchanging of glances, I knew they planned this all in advance.
Sure enough, Richard paused for two seconds before suggesting, "Why don't we exempt Jenny from the graduation defense altogether and directly recommend her for a postgraduate admission?"
The people around him nodded at him ingratiatingly, their faces filled with flattery.
"We agree!"
The students smiled too, claiming that justice might come late, but it will always arrive.
Some already secretly took their phones out to live-stream the entire incident, asking Jenny's fans to watch how she demanded justice.
The police officers walked over to me.
"Then, you'll have to come with us to the station!"
I calmly reached out my hand.
"Hold on a moment."
Rolling up my sleeve, I showed a small patch of decayed skin on my hand.
"Who said the data in my thesis came from experimenting on Jenny? This all came from me!"
I added, "As for the screenshots on the final page, I only added them yesterday after seeing her live stream. That's when I realized she was stealing and using my skincare products for four years, so I included it as supplementary material."
Everyone was baffled to see my exposed wound.
Jenny's eyes widened in bafflement, clearly also panicking a little.
"Impossible! You must have faked your injury yesterday to clear your name!"
I chuckled as I scrolled through my presentation, showing the photos of the progress of my skin on my arm. Each photo was labeled clearly with the time, location, and what I applied to that part of the skin.
"If you still don't believe me, you can search the security footage of the labs."
The police officers hesitated a little when they saw how confident I was. They turned to look at Jenny.
"Did you really steal and use Eve's experimental skincare products? Don't lie. Every word you say carries legal responsibility!"
Jenny denied vehemently, "It was Eve who secretly poisoned my skincare products!"
I was waiting for her to say that.
I instantly laughed.
"Jenny, the experimental skincare products that I came up with has a special smell. If I mixed it into your luxury skincare products, you would smell it immediately!
"You have used it for four whole years without realizing it. Could it be that you have never really used a real luxury brand and that you're just pretending to be rich, which is why you don't know about it?"
Facing my questions, everyone instantly looked at Jenny.
"Yes, don't you remember, when Jenny first appeared at the university, she was dark and looked very much like a country girl. It was only later that she slowly became beautiful!"
"Yes. In fact, I always thought that Eve looks better than her, but Eve is focused on her studies, so she doesn't care much about dressing up."
"So, the truth is that Jenny stole her rich roommate's skincare product, but stole the wrong one and ruined her face?"
Jenny froze on the spot, looking extremely frantic and anxious.
Chapter 4
Suddenly, Jenny's eyes lit up as if she found a new excuse.
"I did think that the skincare product was rather off. But I'm just too simple-minded, and I didn't think much of it. Who would've known that you would place such dangerous experimental products in the dorm, even disguising them as luxury products? You were clearly trying to mislead me to take the wrong product, right?"
This instantly gained sympathy from most of the people there. Some exclaimed and called me scheming and a terrifying monster.
Especially our two other roommates, who were Jenny's lackeys. They stood up for Jenny fiercely.
"Yes! Jenny is just an innocent girl. She's not like you, who is so petty and vengeful!"
"Eve, instead of researching things that benefit people, you insist on creating toxic garbage to harm others. Are you trying to harm society?"
"Just because you were jealous of Jenny, you set her up and disfigured her. Who knows what you'll do one day if you're unhappy with another person? Would you 'accidentally' harm them again? What a manipulative scholar you are!"
Those words scared everyone so much that they immediately retreated a few steps back, trying to create some distance between them and me.
The police officers grew tense as well, highly on guard and prepared to seize me.
"Eve, what other dangerous materials do you have? Hand them over right now!"
Tony, playing the generous boyfriend that he was, pulled Jenny into his arms, saying to Richard, "Dad, this evil woman is literally a terrorist! She might go mad and poison us all to death!"
Richard shot to his feet, urgently calling out to one of the staff members, sweat beading on his forehead.
"Quickly head to the labs and destroy all of Eve's experiment data and materials!"
I looked horrified.
That was my life's work. Four years of relentless research. Detailed data. Every single experiment.
All of it was stored in the lab.
If it were destroyed, everything I worked for would be reduced to nothing.
But the students, thrilled by the chaos, raised their hands in support. They livestreamed, snapped photos, and flooded the internet with updates.
In the confusion, a phone was shoved in front of me.
Sweeping a glance, I saw that my case already went viral, trending at the top.
[Poison Queen Discovered at Queenstown University! Inferiority Complex Leads to Four-Year Plot to Disfigure Rich Roommate!]
[Top 10 High-IQ Crimes: Highly Educated Criminals Are Even More Dangerous!]
Mixed in were Jenny's fans, exaggerating the story and twisting the facts, spreading before-and-after photos of her ruined face to stir sympathy and outrage.
The internet tore me apart.
Some even declared, from behind their screens, that I deserved the death penalty.
"Jenny's such a poor girl! We should never let an evil person like this into society! They will only harm more people!"
At that point, the police officers would no longer listen to my explanation. I resisted with all my might, but they overpowered me and dragged me to the door.
What sank my heart the most was the staff member who was already running off to the lab to destroy my work.
Right in the nick of time, someone kicked the door to the meeting room wide open.
A group of white-haired old professors barged in angrily.
"Who dares destroy the life-saving medicine developed by our top student?!"
